Okay, having had the last 3 Brittens (http://www.americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/Brittens) at my house, maybe it's time for a change. Creed Malay has generously offered to host it this time around at his house in Sunderland in the north of England. He was too lazy to actually start this thread himself though, so I'm doing it.
I'm told the house is large enough to fit around 15 people semi comfortably. There is a shortage of beds though, so 3 people will have to fight for couch space, and everyone else will need to bring sleeping bags and floor mats if they want their spines to survive the night. Sunderland is around 5 or 6 hours north of London, but there are regular trains and coaches to Newcastle and/or Sunderland which is nearby.
The plan is to have this happen around August bank holiday - Monday August 31 - so people with jobs get the free day off work and don't have to take so much holiday leave. This is around 7 weeks after Mittens, so hopefully people will have recovered by then.
So post if you're interested!
THE DATES ARE 22-28 AUGUST
Definites:
AGA
CJ
Creed Malay
Disco
Jake
scotch
Tier
(7)
Possibles:
Renal Shutdown
Trihan
Create a maybe list! :D
Interested!
Count me in :)
I'm sure I'll pop along, either for the whole thing or just the weekend, depending on how much holiday I have left.
But, 15 people in Davy's flat? Really? ;D
I'd be interested, yeah. Unsure at the moment but still very keen. For making the trip I would be in for a few weeks at the least so might go off on more visits if anybody is lonely :p
Edit- So flights are looking at about $630 for a roughly three week period from 25 August to about mid-September (just guessing dates based on making it more cost-effective), which right now would be the cheapest ever transAtlantic crossing for me in the summer months :D. I'll ask around a bit and do some more looking but yeah this seems doable.
I'll have to think about it. Flights seem to be about 300â,¬, so I could maybe even afford this.
Well, I made Bonfirittens when it was in Sunderland so I'd possibly be able to pop down for the weekend...
I'm a bus ride away! As I'm a northerner now.
I may not stay there specifically (dependent on space/time/stuffs), but I could likely be there most days via the afore-mentioned bus ride.
I'm also far more sober these days, too. Whether that's a good thing, I'll let y'all decide.
Count me in, homeslice
How's about Mondays 24-31 August? This would give the people with jobs 2 days of weekend and 1 of bank holiday off.

Homeslice?!
I guess I've missed too many meets to understand this hip new lingo.
(Date-wise, anything's fine for me).
Put me down on the interested list.
Ooh Nice one Davy.
I go to Uni in Newcastle, but that means absolutely nothing, because I'll be at home in Sussex for the summer. But, yeh put me on the list of definite interestees. I did promise myself I would do Brittens this year as I had to pull the plug on my interest in Mittens.
Just curious who in the interested/definite camp who is also coming up from the south is planning on driving up and when. Magintz and I were just weighing the costs of trains and coaches and flying or hiring a car for the week. It may be worth it if we have a few people go in together instead of all just getting trains or coaches.
I looked for me and National Express will probably be around £30 and take me 9 hours or the train £50 but only take me 5. If there are a few people around London who could get together and hire a car perhaps we could either save us some money or time and if not we'd have the convenience of an AGS wagon for the week. I don't currently drive, but am planning to be on the road by the summer so I might be able to drive, but it's still a ways away yet so if any other near Londoners want to look into it, it might be a plan.
Maggi
The Megabus from London to Sunderland is only a couple of quid return.
and sold!
I'll probably end up driving up from London but we can sort travel arrangements out nearer the time.
Davy/scotch, do you really think we can fit 15 people in your flat? Where would everyone sleep?
Well, it'll be a bit cramped, but we should be okay. There's three settes, a few chairs that can be stripped of their cushions to make emergency beds, and I've a couple inflatible mattresses and thing. Floor space is one thing we're not short of here. :)
I got a double bed, and Scotch has a single. So anyone who wants to share Scotches bed with him, I'm sure that'll be fine with him.
Seriously, if it turns out to be way too cramped, I can farm a couple of you out to my brother, he lives not ten minutes walk away.
Lets not forget the crawlspace into the attic, that could hold a few people who don't mind dust, spiders, and lead bricks :D
I just managed getting megabus tickets for a couple of quid return as suggested, which I am thrilled about :D I checked right after and the same tickets were going for 6x the price 8)
Magintz and I will be arriving at 9:30pm the night before and leaving at 7:20am the morning after Brittens officially ends, funny how it ends up being crazy late or early.
I am officially unofficially putting my name down as a maybe for this. I'll see how funds are early August.
I'm 14! Can I join?
Just kiddin'.
Nope. Minimum age is 18, I'm afraid.
Anyone driving from Brisbane?
Isn't Brisbane in Australia? If your driving I hope your going in an electric car with lots of spare batteries or one of these
(http://pvcdrom.pveducation.org/MANUFACT/Images/SOLARCAR.JPG)
Which if your lucky will get you to britain before the weather causes your car to breakdown ;D

Anyone driving from Brisbane?
Sure thing if you can spring for fuel.
Let's see.
The distance from London, England to Brisbane, Australia is 10273 miles (16532 km); 20546m round trip.
I think an average car gets about 35 mpg, so I'm going to need about 588 gallons of fuel.
A litre of fuel costs about 94.9p (think that's about what it is around me) so that's £4.32 a gallon.
So if you can chip in £2540.16 for fuel... I'll pick you up.
(nb, it's late and I'm sure I've made a mathematical mistake... feel free to correct any of this)
I'll do it for £2499.99.
What's the plan? ;D
Unforseen circumstances now lead to brittens being brought to an end on the friday 28th of AUg, sorry guys! YOu can turn up two days early (sat 22nd) instead, if you like!

Hmm, my tickets have me leaving for London on 1 September at 07:20 :/ Looking to get replacement ones of the 28th. Is anyone driving up from the London-ish or close area that could take 2 on the way home (and possibly the way up)? I'll have to check, but we may be interested in seeing about going the couple days before if enough people want to turn up then as well. In return I promise petrol money and a few laughs here and there.
Also, since Magintz has gone and got a job he won't we able to make it this time, so in his stead I will be bringing this person (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=423).
You could crash at my place for another couple days, I guess, but I will not be there! :(

Lies!
So uh, who all is still planning on coming to this anyways?
My plan was always to come to this, and I still intend to show my face... but I'm not quite sure what days I'll be able to do. I'm on holiday for two weeks on tuesday and come back on Aug 11th, but the folks at my summer job are expecting me to come back and work right through 'til the middle of September when I go back to uni. So I've somehow got to tell them that I'm going to be buggering off again at the end of August.
I'm going to try and make it.
Edit: Is anyone else going from Scotland?

Well I arrive in UK on the 18th, so could go for the new dates depending on if I can scratch a ride, though I'll certainly be there one way or another.

Lies!
Im afraid the rumours are true. Consider this my
triumphant return to lurking. Now I need a new avatar.
Hope you are all well.
Okay, kittens, only a few weeks left. Who is still on for this, and how are you getting here?
Yeah, I can't make this. Far too poor I'm afraid. :( Maybe next year! MAYBE GODDAMNIT.
I'm still planning on attempting the journey.

I'm the opposite, I live near Newcastle but go to uni in Sweden- and am setting off on the 21st...
I'm still planning on coming, I'll probably arrive on Monday 24th as per the original plan.
I'll hop on a bus, either daily or stop there a while, whichever's easiest. I won't have to worry about things like "getting home drunk", as I quit drinking (again) last week. I'll return to IRC in the next few days to organise stuffs more precisely.
Okay, One week to go - who is coming and when and where are you arriving?
Buggering fuckerations, it's looking more and more unlikely that I'll be showing my ugly face there now. Sorry, fans.
I'm sorry I won't be there, Davy. :(
I wanted to hunt Jimmy Nail in his natural habitat too.
*puts bow and arrows away*
Sigh.
Everyone is here and it is raining. Go Brittens!

Hope you guys have fun. Maybe next year I will enlighten you with my presence.

This time it's in the dreaded North, so more rain and less sheep.
Well?
How was it?
;D
What happened at Brittens stays at Brittens!
Also, I didn't take my camera this year so no pics!
AGS meets have become suspiciously private. Either that or they've become so mundane that nobody really wants to talk about them anymore.
I have a few pictures of this and that but I have no hosting ability. I will process a few of them and upload them somewhere in the next few days.
Everyone start saving for Brittens 2010. It might be expensive since we are planning for it to be on the moon.
Well, at least the moon allows alcoholics... :P

moon, wouldn't it then be like...
Mittens?
Or maybe you are going to narrow the place down to the
bright side of the moon. Then it could be
Brittens. ;)
We're going to start a British colony on the Moon. That damned US flag has been up there too long.
