Title: Brittens, Mittens, what about Lattinens?
Post by: rozojc on Fri 10/06/2005 04:03:46
A (stupid?) question has just occured to me: I'm new to AGS, the forum, etc., and I'm seeing how there are meetings like Britttens and Mittens, from what I read, one in Greece and the other one in Britain; is there a big enough Latin American community of AGSers to think of doing something similar down here? I'd sure love to go to one of those, but just can't afford a ticket to Europe  ;D

How many AGSers are from anywhere in Latin (or South) America? I've seen a few users from Brazil, I think I'm the only one from Colombia, and I don't know much else... About how many of us are there? Are there enough to think of doing an AGS meetup somewhere around here (here as in: Latin/South America) ?

Suggestions anybody?

Sure, why not? There was a Gloves one year which featured two people... :D

We really try and encourage you to visit Mittens* or Brittens** , which are the official gatherings, that way you get to meet LOADS of people! But of course there's nothing stopping you from bringing all your Latin friends together for one convinient gathering :) If you don't have any luck finding peeps in your country, come to the next Mittens and pitch your place... South America would be a LUSH place to hold it!!

* The following years Mittens location is usually decided at Mittens
** Brittens is a smaller event for those who can't necessarily make Mittens, and is usually held at a former Mittens location (this year we're back in the UK, next year it might be Sweden or what not)..

:D

I thought Brittens was Mittens for Britain? (Where the hell did you guys get "Mittens", anyway?)

The true and fascinating story behind "Mittens" is only told during mittens meetings.

Rozojc... Don't ask permission, do it! :D I'd go (I am latin.... but not latin-american, I can t attend :() Sure you'll find at least 5 or 6 people who'd like to go. If you want a list of latin AGSers, I think it was a thread called "cuantos hablan Spanish?) search for it and start PMing people.

And send us the photos!  :)

But don't do it in the jungle of "Columbia", will you?  :=

"The true and fascinating story behind 'Mittens' is only told during mittens meetings."

Wow, way to make the community feel inclusive.  Last time I checked there were almost three thousand members registered on the forums, and maybe only a couple more than a dozen people can actually make it to mittens.  That's not for a lack of desire, for most I'd wager it's because people can't afford the cost of traveling half-way across the world.  So why exclude everyone who isn't fortunate enough to have the resources to make it to Mittens?

hahah... I'd assume "Mittens" would have something to do with holding the "Bluecup". I'm sure Andail was only kidding. I mean, there isn't a false and fascinating story behind "Mittens"

I'm sure he was kidding, but I still think it's a lame thing to say.  If I were new to the forums I'd read it and think, wow, this is just a cool kids club.  I know AGS isn't like that, but still...

I'd just think of it as an attempt to make more people interested in going to Mittens. ;)

Anarcho - chill dude :) It really is best left for Mittens events, and you want to know why? ....

There once was a game, called The Vestibule - under development many years ago by Euthanize The Wombat Games... Four men worked on the project, Abstauber, Yahtzee, Captain Mostly and m0ds. One day, one of them suggested perhaps meeting in real life to discuss the project, perhaps even have a barbecue to spice the event up. This formed the initial idea behind the gathering, wouldn't it be great if it wasn't just four developers - but EVERY AGS developer? One man, the Captain - named it "Mittens"......... Perhaps like the Secret of Monkey Island, we'll never know, but unto this very day - its name holds no real meaning, but to us it means a goddamn good time!

;)

... There is no meaning. Thats why.

Ok, I'm chilled.  I guess I'm just bitter that I'll be stuck in an office while you all hang out in Greece.   :'(

Now why doesn't it surprise me that the Captain came up with the name?

Has he even been to a Mittens? He is cordially invited to the 2008 one being held behind my house!

Yep, Anarcho, that's actually the whole story. The Captain just pulled it out of his arse, so to speak. I was just trying to turn such a trivial thing into something more exciting. A joke.
I hope you feel more included now

No, my feelings still remain hurt.  This shall never be forgotten, I assure you.  For all long as I live...     ::)
