Title: Brittens post mortem
Post by: AGA on Sun 23/07/2006 14:53:36
That's right, Brittens is DEAD. Long live the Mittens.

Well, Hajo, scotch and the Secret Guest are left, but all the others are home, or on their way home.

Brittens was fun, much mountaineering was done. Also, many stupid things were said, which you can read in the Brittens Quotefile (http://www.agagames.com/Brittens2006/quotefile.txt). Oh, and Creed wrote a lovely ballad (http://www.agagames.com/Brittens2006/The%20Ballad%20of%20Onion%20Head.txt) that won't make any sense out of context.

Haha, funny stuff :D Wish I was there... I hope someday I can go to the Mittens.

Blazing hot sun all week in Wales, and the second I get off the coach back in Sunderland, it starts to rain, to let me know it's all over. Boo. Still, for a little while, all possibilities *were* possible.

Most fun I've had this year, I think. Many cheers to AGA for hosting, and to everyone who was there and added to the brittens gestalt. Just real-real sad it's over and I have to go to work tommorow. A few random fun memories -

* Meeting a man who owned a mountain
* Doing urban exploration and seeing Spleen explore a storm drain full of standing water in closer detail than he really wanted to
* Mu-Mu and the Killenator!
* Disco saying "Yay!" a lot
* Campfires in the forests, like trubadors or minstrels of old might have had
* Discovering Firey Fox, the most horrible pint of booze ever
* Everyone trying to do yoga. And falling over a lot

And like, then thousand other things that have all meshed up in a tangle of fun in my brain. Seriously awesome time, cannot wait for the next one.

We're waiting on CJ and Disco for the photos, since they took the majority of them.

I am back!

Brittens was a good laugh as always; and even though we had a relatively small contingent of 10 this year, it was all the more cosy for it!

Thanks to AGA for hosting, the pub landlord for giving us free potatoes, and the checkout guy in Tesco for asking if I was 18.

Photos are here. Sorry for the poor captions, but I'm tired and there are too many pics.

Looks like tons o' fun.  I really want to come to one of these ~ittens things some day, but my wife seems to think that my money would be better spent feeding our baby.  Pfff... that woman has no sense of priorities.

Great pictures, CJ.

That's my festival hat. Dave beat me up and stole it from me.  :P  I took it to last Brittens, Jet, but then before I could put it on, you turned up wearing the *exact same hat*, smiley badge and all. So I obviously couldn't wear it then, it'd make us both feel all uncomfortable.
It got one more festival outing with me earlier this year, and it's now off to america with Dave, for adventures new. Have fun, fair hat.

I am jetlagged.  Oh yes I am.

Made it home in one piece.  Battered, bruised, but not beaten.  Too tired to say anything witty, but I will say I had a great time with you all.  I'll have more to say with pictures and stuff tomorrow.  Till then, zzzzzz

Good morning!  Rested and de-lagged and feeling good.  What a week.  Thanks, AGA, for hosting us.  Hope we didn't trash your home too badly.

Some of my personal highlights of the week were:

- The mysterious disappearance of Spleen while walking in the woods at night
- Drinking brains
- Proving to everyone that I am the worst bowler EVER.
- Falling off a cliff.
- Watching CJ play Grand Theft Auto.
- Disco doing, well, anything.
- Escaping to America with Creed's hat
- Geeking out at the Who Shop! :-D  (I bought a talking tardis coin bank, because my life was incomplete without one)

I have pics!

Enjoy!

EDIT:  Holy crap, Jet.  That photoshop is awesome.

I thought the caption scotch and Disco have a romantic walk along the peninsula (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/brittens2006/DSCF0305.html) didn't make much sense. So I corrected the image.

I know this is a stupid question. But who is Annie? Is she a forum member? Just wondering.  :)
Title: Re: Brittens post mortem
Post by: scotch on Thu 27/07/2006 02:11:22
Annie is OneThinkingGal, she has been a forum mod and is the heaviest irc user.

Brittens was great! The longest AGS meet I've been to (I was there for 12 days), but it didn't drag on at all... and it had a really nice bunch of people. Lots of memorable things like

The storm drain explorations (spleen's fall, running away from a horse, going all the way under the dual carriageway and up into the timber yard, everyone acting like 14 year olds)
Drinking things "spleen's way", and not knowing what on earth they were
The fires in the woods
The free roast potatoes at Gwaelod y Garth's pub
Eating at various places and all the entertaining stuff spleen (and others) said in them
Annie being "not drunk"
The 4 mountain ascents and other walks. repeatedly ending up in Nantgarw somehow, or being trapped on roundabouts
Meeting Tony, the man that claims to own a mountain
Finding the porn swing clearing
CJ pwning the 2p machines at Barry (I still have the horse you won!)
The whole weekend in london with Annie
Annie being freaked out by a 12A rated movie
The weather! Made the whole thing so different to a normal brittens. Even though we had a house, we were outside as much as possible
Many more things.

Not a lot of bad stuff happened, except for YicklePigeon having to leave on his first night, and me somehow managing to destroy a sturdy deckchair by sitting on it.

The Ballad of Onion Girl.

The saddest song I've ever head :'(

Grundislav has a suprisingly lilting singing voice, tho. :P

Grundislav also does one hell of a Christopher Walken impersonation that is the greatest thing i have ever heard. I think it was him, i heard it on the forums before. I would like to hear more.  :)

please correct me if it wasn't Grundy.

Onion rings are dangerous things to toy around with...

Regarding these type of things reminds me that having missed Mittens this year (oh wait..."me [going to have] missed Mittens this year") I won't be able to attend until at least 2009. I'll be going on a mission for my church for two years at the beginning of next year so...(Yes, for those of you wondering, I'm Mormon).

It will be interesting to see what a two year coding hiatus will do to my brain, ego, and lifestyle...I'll have to print out the AGS manual so I can read it every day. And I'll have to re-break my dialog system so I can fix the code while I'm gone ;D.

But we're getting off topic...Ghormak, you did a decent job with the picture...but it's blatantly obvious it's been edited. There's a straight-vertical line along the left side and the areas where scotch and Disco were at are darker than the surrounding areas, but it was still nice. ;)

eh, forgot about this topic.

Brittens was a fantastic time, though I found AGA's mother's bed to be a bit uncomfortable. It may be beds in general, since I am used to sleeping on a couch. Magintz's brother's bed, SSH's guest bed, and beds at 5 hostels (so far) have caused my back to ache  :'(.

I will always remember the crime sprees, Killinator and Momo, the views from the mountains, and lectures by spleen. Oh yes, and I also tried out my Prince of Persia moves a few times, and was even yelled at to stop by the coordinator.
http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/~disco/100_0389.MOV

Highlights were exposing my semi-naked, ketchup and hay covered body to AGA's boss, and the vegetable spring rolls at Ko Tong Villa :9

Lowlights were the amount of thorns on Tony's mountain and in Wales in general, and Yickle's early departure.

Photos will probably have to wait until Monday, if I can use Magintz's computer to prepare a few. The whole lot will likely have to wait until I get home. JEEZ! I'M SORRY!!1 get over it  >:(

Wow, a whole three months later now and I finally have my photos resized, incriminating ones omitted, and zipped. Sorry for the anti-captions, but there are many and I can't make it consistently funny as I feel obligated to.

Photos are here (http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/~disco/Brittens%2006.zip) (8.25 mb).

My previous post about Brittens still counts, however I did remember one bit of conversation that struck me as really funny:

Annie: What do you do for a living CJ?
CJ: I'm a computer programmer.

edit- it seems that the irony is lost in text, you would have had to see the incredulous look CJ and others gave when he was asked this question. Seriously, what else can he be? :P
