Title: Can anyone name this game?
Post by: Alynn on Mon 28/06/2004 07:15:58
Ok, I don't have a bunch of info to go off of, just my memory, and I'm damn near 27, so alzheimers is setting in...

Ok, it was an adventure game... and it had the artwork of that guy that did the Alien artwork and stage stuff (from the movies), and Jon Davis' mic stand (lead singer of Korn) I remember there is a scene of an alien getting injected into a dudes head...

I wanna find that game again... so if you can help... I'd appreciate it...

I think you are thinking of Dark Seed.

Yes, I think Dark Seed is the game you're thinking of. I used to have it on my old Amiga computer a looong time ago.
I thought it was really unique and kool Sci-Fi / Horror / Adventure type of game. Looks like's it's now AbandonWare, you can get a download over at the Home of the Underdogs:

and also Dark Seed 2:

Thanks guys... nice that it is abandonware (which is what I was hoping for actually) only problem is, the damned webfilter they have here in Iraq won't let me get to the webpage :(

I had a version of it long ago, but it wasn't very good... everytime you picked up the box on your porch the game reset, I never figured out if it was the game or the computer (it was some old POS my mom had), but I figured I have nothing better to do here in Iraq... might as well find that game...

Thanks again...

Wow, Alynn, if I was anywhere near Iraq all I'd be worried about was running the other way. ;)

I remember that game.
My friend and I re-recorded and replaced all of the wav files in the game and it was hilarious.
Believe me.

I -loved- that game >_< I used to have it on my old Amiga too, and I played it quite a bit. It did freak me out, but in a good way. I just wouldn't play it in the dark. It was fantastic because it combined my love of adventure games with my love of Geiger's work ^_^ There's a Dark Seed 2 as well as far as I know, though I haven't played it.

I think I have downloaded versions of them both somewhere, actually... I've never been able to make them work on any of my recent computers though. Pity.

Kinoko - Try using VDMSound for running them. Problem is, you may get no sound. Still trying to get around that.

ANd for people with XP and such, or for whom the batch doesn't work - the game works like this, every time the screen fades out the file TOS.EXE closes and the file START.EXE opens, it seems to be where all cutscenes are stored. If you ain't got the batch to work, just do this manually - once it fades out and turns off, do START.EXE then TOS.EXE.

DS1 has got a few mean and unfair puzzles, though. Putting everything under the jail's pillow? Only with a save/load and a LOT of head-scratching can you figure that one out.

Also, since DS2 is abandonware, use EMule or KaZaa, NOT Underdogs or any other site. THEIR version of DS2 doesn't have movies, and trust me, you don't get the full experience without the movies.
