So far i have played only the Chzo Mythos series by Yahtzee and i'm looking for something like that, but it can't have a large memory space as my comuter runs slowly. Also i only want downloadable games that are free, i know i sound like a scrooge but i'm really not looking to splash out on any right now.
Oh, and i'll playtest any games that are in development that fit into those categories^ too, if you want.
Actually, despite a couple of issues that are being fixed even as we speak, the newest AGS game "Infection" might fit your bill. :) Though I'd reccommend waiting a couple of days for v1.1.
Despite not being an AGS game, I think 'Enclosure' would be right up your alley.
It can be downloaded from here (http://home.deds.nl/~femo/) (look under "Projects"). And here's a review (http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,495).
Edit: You may also like 'Prodigal' (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=644), though a few of the cutscenes are quite graphically intensive and could be too much for your computer.
Short and way more fantasy than the Chzo things, but still dark and charming, Hallway of Adventures (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=729), by Mordalles.
Thanks guys, you're all so helpful! The problem is these ALL sound cool, but most of them wont run for some reason or another, one of them is too big and another one has graphics that my graphics cant handle, which really drives me up the wall. Cant wait to get a new computer. I'll look into "Infection" when the bugs get sorted though, and i hope it works. Thanks again for the effort guys, much appreciated.

Shameless plug time, check my webpage (http://crystalshard.net).
Other than that, grab anything at random from the games database. Nearly all of those are free.
Mind's Eye might also be worth a try.
I actually like the sound of ALL of them, totally honestly, but for the majority when i download them it's fine, but when i try and open them i get a message displayed saying "Windows cannot find the program to open this file, then offers me the chance to choose one from a list or go online to get windows to search for the program" etc. Does anyone know where i'm going wrong? Do i need a special program to play them?
You should not require a program to play them. Double click/single click the .exe file and the program should run itself.
Assuming you are running a Windows operating system, that is.
EDIT: Erg, just noticed you mentioned Windows in your last post. Silly me :P
If you get Enclosure from here you shouldn't have any trouble running it:

I can run it on XP without a problem just by running the executable, though by default the font does not display properly. I think you can fix it just by choosing win98 compatibility, though.
As for other games not working, most are just ags executables and should not give you a message like that, or they use self-extracting installers which also should not give you an error.

This might be a silly question, but do you have something that can open zip files? What version of Windows are you using, because I think pre-XP Windows didn't have that built-in.
Yes, many games are compressed with rar or lz7. You can use winrar (http://www.win-rar.com/).
Reactor 09 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=819) is good. Short, but good. The characters are well-done and convincing. Mind's Eye is good, too, if not a little cliched (it's about an amnesiac locked in a corrupt insane asylum...)
