I was just wondering if the idea of making a cartoon\movie type thing with ags has ever been thought of. Sort of like a few giant cutscenes. I couldn't really see anything stoping the idea. I wanted to hear you opinions.
Yes, has been thought of, Sylpher made one, very very short called Dead Quest or something like that
There is nothing stopping you from doing it but you'd have much more control over the animation and there would be much more you could do with a much smaller file size if you used something like Flash.
Well, as there's (atleast) one interactive movie sortof game made, why wouldn't a completely interactionless be impossible?
Well, Rui and I wrote a movie script to be made using AGS. But our artist is awol.

No offense, MrColossal, but AGS is free while Flash costs money.
That doesn't offend me, I was just saying.
I'm very much considering making a cartoon with ags. It's just trying to fit that work in with all the other work I make time for. If only I could get paid to do what I want....
Would this count as machinama?
Also, there is one famous example of this: the Universal Equalizer. :P
Machinama is usually images from an already created game, like Halo, with unrelated speech dubbed over it. It's similar to screenshot comics. Because you'd actually be creating everything from scratch, I don't think you can put it in that category.
AGS is suitable for animations where you reuse gfx and animation often. Also, it is suitable when dealing with texts (DisplaySpeech), but for a better grasp of directing the animation Flash is simply better. And there are...ways to make it cheap too. Not saying that it is impossible in AGS, it's just not worth the trouble and bytesize.
Tomato! It's been like a year and a half since you've posted in the forums... how have you been?
I don't see what the problem is with doing cartoons on AGS; I'm not even sure why this was asked in the first place. But it kind of defies the whole point of having interactivity in the first place.
Machinima refers to all non interactive animation scripted in a game engine, as far as I can tell. So yes, it would be.
If you can get a proper animation program I don't see a big reason to do it myself, other than novelty value.
netmonkey: I've been fine :D
Are we talking animation or cutscenes here. Because quite simply, ingame cutscenes can be made with ease, but real filmlike animation is not worth the trouble of going through in AGS.
I make cartoons in flash in my spare time, but for what i have planned now, ags is what I want to use, as it would be simpler in this case. youll see why when i have the free time to finish it up.
Whatever happened to Bluecup?
The thing set in the bar that was planned with, well, scripts and everything?
It was managed by OsUltimo.
For those of you who do not remember OsUltimo, he was the guy who left the forums in a temper tantrum over his banning at #ags. He won't be coming back, and as a result, it seems highly unlikely that project will ever be ressurected.
