It has come to my attention that some game developers are removing their games after harsh criticism from other ags users and game players.

Now some people do this for pure infantile reasons, and some do it due to offensive comments from others. I don't like the way this is going. I created the game that inspired the p3n1sh award. Just ask DGMacphee. It received harsh critism from some users, and it received praise in its highest form (someone else created a remake, god knows why, Eric made a fan sprite). Would I consider removing it? No. It's legacy will remain forever, not that I'm proud of it (I sometimes wish it would just die), but it is still my work. I made the game for me and a friend (who created said character in biology class). Don't listen to people. Make games for you primarily, then the audience. You are all creatives, and you deserve to have your work praised and criticised.

Look at modern art for god sakes. I say a guy in a bear suit is not art, yet others say it is. Still won the Turner Prize didn't it.

The trouble is, some opinions have a raised status becuase they occupy a position of power: i.e. Pick-of-the-Month chooser (i.e. me) or the Review Panel. Those opinions are more likely to be seen than others and so one might get disproportionately annoyed by criticisms there.

Well, ultimately it's their work, so they can do with it whatever they want. Of course you shouldn't remove your game after sinking so much time and passion in it - maybe temporarily pull it off and work on the issues people adressed, but delete it? Unless it's "A Nigger's Revenge", you shouldn't go there.

And the "exposure to criticism from a position of power"... well, there we have the good old review panel discussion again (which, funnily enough, gave all my games the same crappy rating, regardless of quality differences and without explanation most of the time. ::)).

I think Nergal has the right attitude about how we should look at the panel and user ratings. Speaking for the panel, if I may, we never go out of our way to be nasty about certain games, or those that develop them, and it's certainly never our intent to drive creators away from the community. We play *all* the games that are released, and we look at *all* a game has to offer, beyond what a player's initial impression might be. And we're happy to do it, so it can be a little disheartening when creators dismiss what we do because they disagree with our ratings or comments.

But, as Nergal has said, this wasn't the case with EM-BF, and I'm glad to see the game has returned to the database.

Do you really believe that I can feel offensed by a critic about a game that I made? That would speak very badly about me.

Indeed, kudos to you for saying that, and more so for reentering the game. If we could only find a way to instill that way of thinking into C&C  ;)

Yes I did notice last night that you had indeed re-posted the game, and kudos to you for it.

I think the game rating panel is flawed though. To give such a quality game as ultimerr 1 blue cup is a sin. A SIN!!! DGMacphee poured his heart and soul into that game when most of you were still wearing diapers, or at least not even a member of ags. So boo to you. :P

I jest.
