Hey,

I just wondering if anyone knows about any programs or an easy way of making a setup file similar to the Broken Sword one?

Planning to make a unique setup program for a game I working on.

Do you mean the one that had some sort of Arkanoid-game built in? Keep in mind that Broken Sword is from a time when cd-roms ran at 2x speeds and games took several minutes to install. Unless your game is distributed on a dvd, I see little use for such an installer. Most amateur games today install in a matter of seconds.

If you just want a professional-looking installer, I can recommend the freeware install-maker InnoSetup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php).

Just to make sure, are you talking about installers or setup-programs (changing the resolution, audio output etc.)?

I wouldent want to make a game in it, but I wants to make a full screen installer with speech etc on it.

Our game is gonna be a full length game...

Also another question is those Autorun things on CDs. where it pops up a menu, is there any free programs to make stuff like that? (like InnoSetup, easy to use.)

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

From what I understand, it all boils down to an "autorun.inf" file in the CD. Check out your own games to look at what the files say. I dunno if newer games still do it, but the Sierra CD games used it a lot.

Autorun.inf lets you RUN an executable when the cd is inserted. I think Peder is asking for an application to create the small menu program that is run by the autorun.inf. The kind that you see on commercial games, where you insert the disc and are asked whether you want to install the game, visit the website etc., or if the game is already installed, whether you want to run it or uninstall it.

Try to google for "autorun creator". There are lots of shareware programs like that. It was a while since I searched myself , but I never found a good entirely free one.

Peder Johnsen, Is it too much to ask to be more specific?
Do you mean Broken Sword 1, 2 or 3? What was so special about that installer (I played BS1 on GBA)? What's so unique about your setup file?
Do you mean an installer like Inno, do want to run your game from a cd, do you want a small html window apear that can execute the ags exe (like lsl2 for ags), or do you want to create a custom configure file? Because I don't know what the hell you want.

How can you expect an answer if you can't even ask a proper question!

I sorry...

I am talking about Broken Sword I (only one I tried... and bought)

what I specially want is a full screen with some self made grapichs and speech . like in the on on the bs I game.

It is basically cause I just liked it alot when I installed it the other day (just bought the game not long ago :S).

voh

The installer for Broken Sword 1 is graphical and animated, uses animation to test your computer's speed, and uses speech for instructions (as well as text, of course). It is a pretty cool thing to toy around with, but going through all that effort just for an installer?

If it were possible to copy files from AGS, it would be possible, I guess. All you'd really need is to get input as to where to place the files, and then copy them. Making a progress bar would be easy. If you have 6 files, they're all 10k, 60k = 100%, 1 file = 17% (approx. ;)), so just update the bar after every file, and make it 100% once the last file is completed. Done :)

(I've made installers with quickbasic, so I know the basics ;))
Still here.

@ voh yeah, the reason is cause the installer would be for a full length game..
and we wants to make it look as good as possible, and doing something like that for a setup file I think is good.

Yeah, sure , would probably not be that many files... depends a bit I guess.
But I really think it will be worth making one for it.

Well, if you get interested in our game, and when we are close to finish all maybe you could help us make one?

Scummbuddy

You could perhaps make one in flash, and have it be a preloader. It can be autorun on a cd, and I suppose with any installer.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.
