I wanted to mention to you a lesser known first-person adventure game called "Dare to Dream". And it is really bizarre.
Here are videos of a playthrough of the three volumes (parts, episodes, whatever) of the game.
Volume 1: In a Darkened Room https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyo22H2Liuk
Volume 2: In Search of the Beast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzgqnx8VXi8
Volume 3: Christian's Lair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGuxraCjrOQ
(Don't let the name "Christian" fool you. He is the main antagonist, and a demon. In fact, Volume 3 has it look like you're in a version of hell itself!)
Like I said, bizarre. And this game was created by the same dude who'd later go on to create Jazz Jackrabbit!
I played Dare to Dream when I was a kid and was completely mystified about it, so I have nostalgic feelings for these games. The 1 and 2 were in some of those CDs with games that accompanied magazines, at least in my country.
Anyway, but I love that the next reference you threw was Jazz Jackrabbit instead of... Well.. 8-)
Whoa this brings back some memories! :) I only played the first because it was the shareware release. Cool to see the playthrough.
Anyone remember Blackstar: Agent of Justice (laugh) Totally different adventure vibe, but I always tie it to Dare to Dream because I think it came out around the same time.
I have strong memories of Dare to Dream 3. I'm also fairly positive I was young enough that I never made it past a single puzzle in it and spent most of my time repeatedly getting lost in the creepy hell forest. Starting on the third title probably didn't help either.
