Hi there my name is Steve and I work for a UK based PR company currently in charge of a band called A+E Line who are releasing an album/Single in July.
There single "Christopher Walken" requires and music video and as they are a fresh band are budget is limited. They have explained how they would like to put together a Music video that is made in the style of the old school sierra adventure games and having stumbled across this site I wonder if anyone could give me some pointers on the best way to go about doing such a thing.
I assume such a thing would be possible with flash or After effects but im a novice on this subject so could do with some help.

If anyone here can give a few pointers or even wants to offer there skills (an illustrator who could draw up simple characters/ locations for example) then throw me an email to my personal email address...

Although it wouldn't be paid work it would be a chance to get your craft seen on various music channels as well as the Internet.

An apology if anything said is not in accordance with the forum rules.

I think what you're saying can lead to somwhere interesting and I believe, given enough time, there will be a group of people who will happily choose to help you in this kind of fun cooperation.
I also believe that not many people gave public proposals like this on these forums, so it will be kinda cool to see who you could and are going to work with if all this is true and goes by your plans.
This sounds interesting, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

anyone interested in helping would have a lot of creative control over the product they would be the ones knowing what they are doing. Could be a good credit to have under your belt.

You can use AGI studio and SCI studio to rip characters and backgrounds from the original game files. They have resources as well.
Finding the old Sierra games isn't that hard if you know where to look. I can't give you any links since moderators don't like warez links here. I can give you a site to Sierra demo files, which can also be used with the AGI/SCI studios.

I used AGI sprites, and I know that paint overs are easy but drawing and animating something new is a pain in the brown eye. The pixels feel like the size of cardboard boxes.

It would be great to see Christopher Walken kick butt in 16 color mode.

how can I learn how to extract characters/locations from games using this software?

That won't exactly be legal though, will it?

How about the band have themselves photographed in poses and turned into little computer
sprites?

Hammerite

that sounds like a sweet idea ManicMatt!
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

true, my idea was to take bits from the game and basicly reproduce them but change them enough to  make it just legal. although its going to be easier to find someone to draw up some adventure game style locations instead.

Thats a grand idea about the band, I suppose that would be a case of just taking photos then trying to reproduce the photos as best as possible in a dodge pixley kinda style. inless you had any other ideas on how to achive that?

The toughest part, I believe, would be spriting the band (assuming you want to go in that direction).  I don't know if anyone here is going to want to help you (or have time to do so) or not, but the idea could be done very simply.

You could do a traditional music video but as an adventure game puzzle.  Like there's the typical sierra gui but with sprites related to the band instead of King Graham, and a hand icon comes down opening a chest.  One of the band members in sprite form walks over and opens the chest and the typical sierra text-box comes up stating "You found a guitar" -- then the "points" bit on the GUI goes up by say 10.
Maybe they could reproduce typical puzzles but related to a band, like bribing a bouncer with something appropriately humorous.

Also, make sure you animate one of the band members falling to his or her death, since that's common to the classic Sierra adventures.  That or falling off stairs and then landing in a daze with stars circling around the guy's head.

I'm no sprite artist, but if you find one (there are sites with professionals, though they will probably ask to be paid) or you do the sprites yourself, you might want to try out SSH's "walkcycle" generator to make animation easier.

I also really liked my old signature.
