Further to these threads, I thought I'd provide an update regarding the AGS to XAGE conversion.  There's now a short video of Demo Quest running on the Xbox360 on the XAGE development blog.

Most of the game logic is not yet ported over but, as the video hopefully demonstrates, the basics are pretty much in place.  I'm hoping to get alpha v0.4 released in the next month or so.  Here's a comparison of Demo Quest in AGS and XAGE:

The recent threads about adventure gaming on consoles and cursor control via gamepad's have been quite enlightening, so I'd be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts or suggestions; previous feedback has played a large part in shaping XAGE's direction.

Oooo goody!

I really should follow this directly, but I do love you updates you keep putting on the forums (one of the only sites I visit frequently). PS-When you get to a desired point, I'll test on the Zune. :)I still have C# and XNA on my comp, so I'd love to help further such an amazing project.

To give back to the AGS community, I can get you free, full versions of commercial software. Recently, Paint Shop Pro X, and eXPert PDF Pro 6. Please PM me for details.

Nice work, definetly pushes the AGS community to more console areas.  Keep up the great work :)

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Wonderful to see this coming along. What will be truly incredible though is when the conversion is completely automated and still fully functional.

I feel pretty confident that if you stick at it you'll be able to do this eventually and I just wait for the day... :D

It's fair to say the conversion will never produce a 100% identical game, due to various design and architectural differences between the two engines.  I'm attempting to map as much functionality as possible.  The process is iterative, so the quality of conversion is improving steadily.

At some point fairly soon I'd like to try converting a few other (recent-ish, v3.0 onwards?) AGS games to give me more pointers on AGS scripting.  Are the ROTN games open-source, or does anyone know of any open-source games?

@Trent:  Now that MS has officially announced the Zune HD, chances are it will support XNA, meaning potentially another native platform for XAGE (whilst providing a convenient excuse to buy one).

I'm in the process of re-writing my content creation and handling in order to easily publish XAGE games to multiple platforms using the editor.

As another proof-of-concept,  I've now published the same build of Demo Quest (as seen in the Xbox video) to the Silverlight platform.  This has been uploaded so you can play this build in your web browser at the following location:  http://www.clarvalon.com/SilverLightTest/TestPage.html.

Please bear in mind that the Silverlight version is not nearly as robust as the native Windows and Xbox versions - there are performance issues and a lot of wrinkles to iron out, some of which dependant on the upcoming release of Silverlight v3.0.

My webhosting is exceptionally flaky; should you experience any timeouts try again later.  Not owning a Mac myself, I'd love to get any sort of confirmation as to whether it runs or not.
