Title: Designing Zelda
Post by: DCillusion on Sat 29/05/2004 19:14:46
As much as I love AGS, (I'm deep into my own game), I love all forms of adventure games.  I was wondering if anyone knows of an engine similar to AGS that specializes in Zelda-type 3D adventure games where little-to-no programming is required.  Point & adventures remain pretty unchanged in their transition to 3D, but it's hard to be nostalgic about "cosole-style" adventure games when their 3D counterparts are so much better.

Please Help!!!!

I have Cinema 4D, so anything that supports 3DS Max or Maya files will work.

There are a few ways to do it, with your best bet being probably the Neverwinter Nights engine... however, you will still need to code with it as it isn't an easy system to use for beginners.

Yeah, the NWN engine is nice but in order to get what you want, you'll have to code a ton. Even still, it will be like NWN and less like Zelda.

The easiest one I've found so far is Jamagic,  ClickTeam's 3D version of Multimedia Fusion.  That's more the direction I'm asking for.  Never Winter's great, but it might be a little too specific.

This is really a matter of personal preference.  Graphics are rather low on my list of things that truly enhance an adventure game (although I won't deny it helps).  If an adventure game has a great story and meaningful dialogue, that's the most important thing to me.  Not the latest graphic technology.  If I want to be concerned about graphics, I'd play the latest FPS.

The place you seek is here!!

These guys make Zelda fan adventures all day long, ask them what program they use. I think people have released Zelda "modules" for the program to make certain zelda-style things easier.
