Long time no see!
I've been lurking around from time to time and specially around mittens season ;-D
It looks like a blast with all these amazing people attending!
unfortunately I won't be able to go, however, I figured maybe there are some dutch folk willing to meet up for a weekend of fun and adventure somewhere in the netherlands? (non-dutch folk also welcome ofcourse)
Who's in?!
;-D
I'm Dutch. Where'd you have in mind for the meetup?
I was thinking someplace near Utrecht, maybe Baarn? I think that would be ok to reach for everyone.
We could camp out and get drunk and talk about adventures. Or we could do some activities.
Whatever we'd like!
Alternatively we could meet up in Utrecht or Amsterdam and do some stuff there.
It also sorta depends on the turn up I think.
Yay, more Dutchies! I may join too, I live in Amsterdam currently.
Call it Bokshandschoenen to guarantee no one who doesn't speak Dutch is likely to attend - keep it exclusive.
Oh, and despite what I said above, I'd be interested in attending. Would be nice to meet up with all the old Mittens people and to meet some new Dutchies.
AGA it would be neat hanging out with you again!
Radiant and Amayirot Akago, it would be neat meeting you guys!
any other dutchies? Miez where you at?
I'm thinking of a weekend somewhere late summer.
Also, I think the name should be cuter and/or involve a pun.
wanten?
We weten wel van wanten, ja.

Wasn't Radiant at Mittens '08 (in France)? Am I getting my AGSers mixed up?
Good to see you posting here again Mr. FruitTree. Hard to believe our mountain climbing adventure in the Ardennes was almost 10 years ago huh?
As much as I'd love to attend Dittens (new name pending) it's quite impossible for this Yank but I hope you all have a great time!

Yes, and also Canada, and Alicante. They don't give a knighthood to just anyone, you know ;)
make tntb
Teenage Nutant Tero Burtles?
Radiant: ah yes ofcourse! forgive this lowly vassal!
Tom: I want to but we gotta come up with a plan! come to Dittens!
so which would you guys prefer?
hanging out? or activities?
around august? or september?
I think it depends on what sort of length we're looking at, and what the sleeping situation would be (everyone Dutch going home at night, hotels / hostels, etc etc).
I have plans for most of August, and early September. So from mid September would be best for me. Here's a Doodle for easier keeping track: http://doodle.com/poll/9rtck3xtb5tah6xa#table
everybody do the doodle thingie!
I'm thinking a weekend and I'm willing to do a hotel or hostel or camping or rent a house together or something.
so let's just pick the weekend of the 24th of september! saturday and sunday (maybe friday night too)
I say we just rent a little place somewhere, bring laptops and play/review/create some games, drink beers and light up some BBQ!
Sounds like a plan!
I'll ask Viporizer see if he's up for it
No idea if I'll be able to attend but I'd love to be there :)
will also some nun dutch people be there? I mean, will there be agsers that don't mind speaking english a lot on a meeting in nl?
I'll be there, and I'm by no means fluent in Dutch. Dutch is basically just a combination of English and German anyway, you'll be covered!
Oh, if it's that easy I bet I can even speak dutch with the help of the ultimate translator beer. Sounds interesting, easier to reach for me than mittens. A weekend in august or september sounds okay but not exactly the 1 week at the end of aug and the 1 week at the beginning of september.
I think english will be the main language wo make it easier on everyone.
I suggested the weekend of 23-24-25 september!
The thought is that we could hire an eight person hostel dorm (http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/ClinkNOORD/Amsterdam/93919?dateFrom=2016-09-25&dateTo=2016-09-26&number_of_guests=6&sc_pos=1#gallery) for approx â,¬30 per person per night. That would give us a communal space to do nerdy stuff like play board games or whatever, without having to spend a fortune renting a whole property the way we do for Mittens. We could also do stuff out in meatspace too of course, but this would also allow us to do stuff you can't really do in a bar or club.
â,¬30 per person per night sounds much more expensive than a vacation rent. A quick search brings up several houses that would be cheaper.
Example
https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p866925 (https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p866925)
(I might consider coming if it is somewhat close to an airport)
I looked at some properties, but I was looking at more central Amsterdam, which was understandably way more expensive. The one you linked is 30m from Schiphol and 1hr from Amsterdam Centraal (even late at night), so actually looks a good option... As long as it doesn't end up being just three people attending it could be worth doing.
I just want to mention Rotterdam is also a nice place in NL. Amsterdam is fine too.
Rotterdam is a bit less accessible from around Europe though. It's on the Thalys (high speed train) network, but the airport isn't particularly big, and isn't very well located. Fine for people who live in NL though, since it's on all the train lines.
quick summary:
When? -> the weekend of 23rd 24th & 25th of september
where? -> someplace near Amsterdam (probably a hostel in Amsterdam or otherwise some property in the amsterdam area)
who?
confirmed:
-Radiant
-AGA
-FruitTree
interested in coming:
-Amayirot Akago
-Selmiak
-Cat
-Viporizer
Ah, please change me from "confirmed" to "tentative, depending on my schedule". I know I selected four weekends in the doodle poll, but that doesn't mean I can treat them all as reserved until the poll concludes. I will try my best to make it though, Amsterdam is easily within biking distance for me.
We've confirmed it'll be 23-25 September, so there's no need to hold multiple weeks in your diary... This is the point where you start avoiding scheduling anything else that weekend!
I want to bring my laptop and wacom there, but booting up my laptop after some time only made me realise it stil runs on WinXP and is terribly slow, especially for Photoshop... anyone got a cool linux to recommend that is very easy on ressources and can easily run wine+photoshop. Or rather a fresh XP install?
Somehow I don't want to overwrite all these funny gif animations I downloaded back in 2003, but something has to happen ;)
I have a large screen (17") Windows 7 laptop I could bring if you wanted to borrow it for the duration. It'd also have WiFi, which I'm guessing your WinXP laptop may not?
Does it havre photoshop? I have no clue about gimp. The wacom drivers are pretty plug + play on win7.
So I guess you won't be coding much in AGS or the like then?
Hope some (kind of) gamejam happens there :)
I could have Photoshop if I chose for it to have... I guess it depends on what we're aiming to do, and what other people are going to bring.
@AGA:
So, I noticed you've confirmed to visit Dittens
You'll understand that I can't pass up such opportunity to catch up on a few things with you...
Looking forward to see you again.
@FruitTree:
Please add me to the 'interested in coming' list.
Do try to contain your excitement.
So we seem to have quite a few people interested now, and have found a date that works for everyone in theory (at least those who bothered to reply...). Should we look for a rental property in a nice accessible location as Cat suggested, weekend of 24th September?
yes! lets do this! @Arj0n thats great to hear!
I would prefer a place where we could do some geeky stuff and perhaps inspire each other to work on games and such.
Does anyone have some suggestions?
Here are two options for rent!
One in Utrecht:
https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p866925
And one in Zandvoort:
https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p813222
the latter one has my preference for a couple of reasons, first it's next to the ocean, second the OCEAN! and third it's still available in our planned weekend!
Both are about a thirty minute trainride away from schiphol national airport.
Both have plenty of room to host us AGSers and I think we need to book soon!
So Imma need all y'all to confirm your stay!
It's gonna be se much fun! so lets do this!
Every post after this one should read: CONFIRM!
If ya got questions about the whole event or what shirts to bring just PM me!
Is-- Is this maintained? Like: 23rd of September 2016?
Maintained? If you mean confirmed, nothing is really confirmed atm...
The weekend of the 23rd looks pretty bad for me, but I will certainly make an effort to put in an appearance!
The date doesn't have to be 100% definitely that one if it's too awkward for too many people. It's just that was the best date for those few who voted...
For me, the date doesn't work anymore, either. But I was a very tentative attendee anyway.
Does anyone know, is there going to be an AdventureX this year?
Looks like I can make friday the 23rd, but have to be some place else on saturday.

Does anyone know, is there going to be an AdventureX this year?
I bloody well hope so! :D
So it looks like almost no one is available that weekend... Is it worth us trying another poll to find a good date?
AdventureX should be happening, but nothing's confirmed publicly yet that I've seen.
this date is okay with me. Whatever is past the 11th of september is okay on a weekend.
I will be in Europe so theoretically I could make it, but not that weekend. If it were the 30th sept, 1st and 2nd October, I probably could.
That would work for me.
So far I have no plans for 30 sep / 1 oct.
allright Layabout! Awesome!
This date is now official! we gotta get a move on or else nothing'll happen!
So the weekend of the 30 september, 1 & 2 october!
(I'll have to leave on the 1st due to girlfriends birthday but will be back the 2nd)
Let's decide on a place!
The date is fine for me. I just came back from a 2 weeks travel and atm don't feel like traveling a lot and have to get back into things, but I think I'll be fine until then ;)
So this is next week. Do we have a place to stay? Or just meet for drinks? And who is sure they're coming?
I think five people so far have expressed an interest in that date. Given the late notice, we would have to pay â,¬100+ each to stay in Amsterdam. A house isn't really an option anymore, so a private dorm room in a hostel seems the best option.
didn't the movie hostel start in a hostel in amsterdam??? 8-0
a hostel is so raw, but for 1 or 2 days this is okay. Is this happening? Do you have to book a hostel in advance to get all ppl into the same room?
Should I check train and plane? Hopefully plane is cheaper than train. I always wanted to fly to amsterdam :)
Well, I live in Amsterdam so I'm automatically there :) I can't promise the whole weekend but I'll definitely join for drinks.
I would still LOVE to do this! however due to a switch in jobs I am insanely busy this week!
If we could make this happen I'd still be down for sure, however I don't have the time to throw something together.
Is there anybody who'd like to pick this up?
Anything goes at this point! :)
Let's make this happen!
I just checked some travel planning pages and this hotel/hostel thingy called damhotel looks not so shitty and very central and not so pricey:
http://www.bookin1.com/bookingEngine/index.jsp?ID=DAMHNL&hotelCode=DAMHNL&id=DAMHNL&ref=AFCH10&src=irelandin1&lang=en#/hotel/damhnl/results?date=2016-09-30&los=1
Twin (2persons) â,¬195.00Only 3 rooms left
Triple (3persons) â,¬210.00 Only 2 rooms left
Anyone wants to join in? this is the complete room for one night I think.
they are cheaper over the week of course and these travel planning page wants even more. This is the booking directly from the dam hotel (http://www.damhotel.com/) page. prices probably go up if even more people check these pages :P but check some pictures, preferably on these travel check pages, the whole house looks so totally amsterdamish narrow, I have no idea how they even get beds in there. any room with more people like 3 looks uncomfy. 8-)
It's a bit last second to be organising anything at this point... A plane would probably be really expensive for you too, selmiak?
Perhaps we should try to do this in February or so. That would be roughly halfway between one year's Mittens and the next's, and would give us time to actually nail down the details this time. People should turn on email notifications for this thread in future!
Oh erm... I've completely forgotten about that. It's a bit short notice now.
Yeah. I was totally up for doing this, but planning it three days before the proposed date is just silly. As I say, might be better to try again later with an organiser who has a bit more free time...
I checked planes and they are incredibly expensive. I would have settled for that train route. I haven't checked the busses yet. But time until the date is indeed narrower than that hostelhotel :P
Let's meet on some canary islands in february, then buying a flightticket is more worth it. Interest, time and me is out then. Would have been nice meeting you forumguys :)
