Does anyone got the CD-version of DOTT?

I know this sounds silly but this morning I downloaded ScummVM to play Day of the Tentacle again after a year with Windows XP (dad changed from Windows 98 to XP while my hardware in the PC got switched to due a crash). I couldn't play the game while I had XP in my PC but I recalled that ScummVM could play even old games on new PCs so I downloaded it and tried. It was like play it the first time except I got to hear the music, the sounds and character voices.

Now here's the point: I really want to hear all the voices in the whole game it's just that the version I have is the Floppy Disc version and it only got voices for the into scene and the scene after getting into Doctor Fred's lab. I have tried to find the CD-Rom version on the net and can't find it (I'm NOT talking about eBay and other shopsites, I'm talking about just 100 % free downloading with no circumstances whatsoever), so I ask if any of you guys got the CD-Rom version of DOTT and any of you could send either a burned CD of it or at least the importaint files for the ScummVM to run it.
I would be very grateful if you can do it, thanks.

Damn this tuberchulosis...

EDIT - I know it's illegal, but he's asking for something illegal anyway, and these programs are common knowledge... beats me why they still exist at all. It's obviously a heaven for piracy, why don't they get shut down? What legal argument can they have?

I believe the legal argument Kazaa and other similar peer-2-peer programs have, is that believe it or not, some people actually do trade legal information.  Kazaa is not responsible for people who decide to take the law in their own hands, and trade pirated software/music/and other illegalities.  I'm sure it says as much before you install the program. This makes it tricky for them to be shut down, because it truly isn't their fault. You the user accept full responsibilty for anything traded once you click the "I agree" button.

I wish I could help Mats...I played the game without sounds, too. I still have yet to hear the voices, but the game was very enjoyable, never-the-less. I'd try ebay, if you want to go the purely legal route.

DCillusion

DC++ is the best for games like DOTT tentacle CD....I have heard, because I've only used it to trade freeware & texture maps I've created myself  ;)

Holds up DOTT box, manual, CD.  8)

Can't you buy it for like $5 (plus shipping) these days?

Squinky

I've got it and sam and max on cd, bought them both for like a buck a piece. Couldn't ever get Sam and max to play sound though, so never have played it much. I might be able to send you the cd (since I'm done with it) depending on how damn far away you live.

---Edit----

Heh, you live in sweden...nice. Don't think I can send it you, heh...

HillBilly

I got the Sam and Max/DOTT CD which I bought a couple of years ago. I also live in Norway, but I can't send it to ya, sorry.

BUT! I can provide information.

I didn't get much sense out of your post, but I also had some trouble playing the game in XP. Here's something I dug up:

How to play DOTT on XP in THREE DIFFRENT LANGUAGES!Ã,  :o

But, eh, you need the CD version.Ã,  :-[
I don't think you would do anything wrong ethicaly by downloading it, since you've already got the diskette version legal.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Weeeeellll... he WOULD be ethically wrong, since he payed for the floppy version and NOT for the voice actors' work (not of the full game)... but who cares. ::)

Does the voice actors still get money from Lucas Arts? hmmmmmm? And besides, I think LA got the game economically covered by now.  :P

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

I don't know if they do. I'm talking ethically.

That's what I answered to. :)

I know that. Buuuuut, I don't wanna keep this discussion up, since it obviously was a joke.  :)

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Heh. Gotcha. ;D

Mats, you really would be better off with P2P software...

I had got the whole Lucas arts archieve 1. It had Sam n' Max, which I could never play with sound. I tried it recently on Scummvm and the sound worked. It was a whole new experience listening to Max's voice ;D

Puss in Boots, you should be careful with what you say because A) I didn't buy the floppy disc version, I downloaded it, so no money were spent. B) If I didn't want to hear Richard Sanders, Denny Delk and the others, do you think that I would ASK this here? I don't think so! C) What IS P2P? Never say to people what you should get it if they don't know what it is and what is good for. I mean, what would that program help when I ask for the CD-Rom version of DOTT or at least the files from it (I don't need the CD when you use ScummVM). Also, I have bought Sam & Max about a year and a half ago and you can only buy DOTT/S&M Double pack in the stores, so don't you agree it's unnecessary to buy Sam & Max twice? And please, I don't want to buy it via eBay so don't suggest it.

I also had that problem with no sound in Sam & Max but I found this file that helped the problem: http://www.samandmax.net/files/windows_exe.zip . Note that you must have the S&M CD for it to work.

Of course downloading those games, burn them and so on are illegal but it isn't less illegal than making fan games (Night of the Hermit, Maniac Mansion Deluxe, Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth, Star Wars: The Shadows of the Empire, Garfield etc.). Of course, LEC doesn't loose any money on fan-games unlike burning the originals but still. Think about this.

HillBilly: Can't you just burn that CD and I PM the adress or at least send the necessary files to play them in ScummVM?

PM me the name of the files you need, and I could probably just send it over MSN, or upload it or something.

I feel so illegal.

How about a group of us just fly over to your place and read the text out loud for you while you play?

QuoteA) I didn't buy the floppy disc version, I downloaded it, so no money were spent.
That doesn't make much difference, does it? To us, I mean, in this discussion. :P

QuoteB) If I didn't want to hear Richard Sanders, Denny Delk and the others, do you think that I would ASK this here? I don't think so!
Huh? I never said you didn't... on the contraire, I think you SHOULD, because if there's a voice pack available it's always work trying out.

QuoteC) What IS P2P? Never say to people what you should get it if they don't know what it is and what is good for. I mean, what would that program help when I ask for the CD-Rom version of DOTT or at least the files from it (I don't need the CD when you use ScummVM).
I wouldn't say it if I knew you didn't know. :) Peer to Peer software. It's basically the concept behind KaZaa - file sharing. It would help you to get the whole CD.

QuoteAlso, I have bought Sam & Max about a year and a half ago and you can only buy DOTT/S&M Double pack in the stores, so don't you agree it's unnecessary to buy Sam & Max twice?
I think you misread me. I said it was illegal - and it IS - but I also said it wasn't very important at this stage, because, as Hillbilly pointed out, it's not as though it'd make much difference to Lucas or the voice actors at this point.
EDIT - And I misread you just now. ::) Well, I bought Monkey Island 1, Monkey Island 1&2 Pack, and LucasArts Archive - which included MI 1 and 2. Does it answer your question?

QuoteAnd please, I don't want to buy it via eBay so don't suggest it.
I'd NEVER suggest eBay, I've had a bad experience with it.

Should I be careful with what I say? Or should you not read too much into my words? ::)

EDIT - BTW, I would never tell anyone "don't do it", because then I'd be a hypocrite - I do it myself all the time. BUT I know what I'm doing is illegal, even if the game is "abandonware" (which is still illegal, but that's another discussion). And that's one piece of info I have no qualms in sharing.

You're not missing out on much, the voice acting's horrible anyway.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Beg to differ. I played both versions - the voiceless first - and I LOVED replaying it for the voices. Both Sam and Max are absolutely delicious!

Aren't we talking about DoTT?
