Well everyone, I have made my decision with much deliberation. I have picked two and taken one off the 1st list completely. I plan on going with Black Label Entertainment and Cerebral Hemorrhage Ltd. Don't ask why, but it will work itself out later. I have also taken out Bob Jones Productions because it was my first company and I might keep it around :).

The rest of these companies are up for grabs if anyone wants them!

Thanks for everyone's c+c and stories as they really helped me. Hope to get our first release out soon + website!!

Cheers,
Gonzalezj  ;D

How did you guys come up with the names for your game production companies?
I'm having a difficult time choosing from my list of companies. I don't know if I want to post them for fear that someone might take one and use it before I do.  :(

Cheers,
 Gonzalezj  :)

undergroundling

mine is, oddly enough, Undergroundling Productions, heh...

it also doubles as my video production and music production "company."  i just liked the name undergroundlings.  like the groundlings improv comedy group but...underground...i dunno it just sounded cool.  it was a website i had for a while as well, but it eventually just evolved into my company name.

n3tgraph

well If you don't like them, why be worried if somebody steals it

use typical you things to make up a name
like

Gonzales' Adventure Software

GAS :)

Most of the people here aren't into the habit of taking other people company names away. Just suggest something to us, and as long as you make something and give it to us in a short period, no one should steal it.

You should try to make your company name have something to do with you. Whether that be your name, an activity you like doing, whatever! Hope you think of something.

Yay, opinions.

I really like Bob Jones Productions and Drunken Moose Games. Implode Games sounds too much like it's trying to sound cool. Gonzales' Adventure Software is good. :P
And finally... Grey Matter is already taken. By the kind of people who could sue you. And stuff.

Gonzalez' Adventure Software (Thanks N3TGraph, lol)

I like this one best. It could be G.A.S. for short. :)

.... or you could wait for your favorite local comic shop to go under and steal the name, like I did. ;)

Femme Stab Mode >:D

Mine is Evil Eyes Productions. I like the no pants productions  :D
Gonzorbachov Productions sounds weird.
NANANANANANA ASSHOLE!

OneThinkingGal and ._.

No Pants is also taken. I believe they make Everybody loves Raymond and/or Home Improvement.

I'm just gonna call mine: ._. Productions.  Or something similar but involving ._. because I wuv my pet smiley :P and it would be a unique name.

I hope I dont have to list it on the NYSE. That name could be a bitch to get a ticker symbol for ._.

As for suggestions, pick a name that has something to do with you in some way, instead of just cool sounding words.

Femme Stab Mode >:D

Everybody Loves Raymond is Worldwide pants productions and Where's the lunch? so No Pants is not taken.
NANANANANANA ASSHOLE!

OneThinkingGal and ._.

Oh right o_O

There is a No Pants theatre company that comes up on google tho. I dunno if they'd care. ._.

Pesty

One day I was doodling in my Algebra notes. I drew a frog. I wrote "FROG" underneath. Then I gave the frog lipstick. I wrote under the "FROG" "has lipstick". That has been my company's name ever since.

Snake

QuoteElectronic Farts is MINE!
Yes, Helm, I remember the first time I saw that logo, I loved it :)

My company name Snake Pit Entertainment revolves around my name, Snake, and my ficticious band's name, Snake Pit with just the added goodness of Entertainment.

If I was ever to join forces permanently with somebody one of these days, or even just for certain projects *coughcoughsquinkycoughcoughgag*, I'd love to name it, Old Man on the Ground Entertainment...heh, I've even got a cool logo and everything...

The two that I really like are No Pants Productions and Grey Matter Productions. I'm pissed that Grey Matter was taken though. I've compiled another list at the top.

Thanks,

Trapezoid

I use Nemeburger Entertainment. I'm kinda sick of it though, so my next game might use Joyless Entertainment, which is my film "company". Or I'll just release it through Monkeygames or Screen 7 or something (if they'd want me to.)

Squinky

I kinda think the whole "no pants" thing is over done in this community....

And snake, if we join forces, we gotta have cool decoder rings and a secret handshake....

gonzalezj

I would love to join up with you, but that would defeat the purpose of this thread  ;)

I want to try the scene by myself for a while. Squink, if I can't handle it, I'll give you a call.

QuoteI kinda think the whole "no pants" thing is over done in this community....

I have to agree with you, but I still like the idea because I have a great idea for a logo, lol.

Flippy_D @school

It's easy really. To make a name all you gotta do is think "adjective noun". This may lead to, amongst others;

Purple Elephant
Monkey boots
Foreign Disease
Compact textbook
Failing Democracy
Popcorn glasses (PA reference)
Iron Chimney.

Etc.

Duzz

well my company thingy name is Wintermute Studios, mainly cause my computer is called wintermute, and i recorded my band's demo on it, so it was like a studio...  but googleing 'wintermute studios' came up with a couple of things, and there's heaps of companies with 'wintermute' in their title =(
so I'd need to get a different name if I wanted to actually do anything 'real' with the 'company'...
Powerhoof - My new indie games company! | Wintermute Studios - My older AGS games: The Historical League of Bouncy Boxing, Grr! Bearly Sane,  Duzz Quest...

EldKatt

Turnkey Games! Turnkey Games! Very good, that.

But I still like Gonzales' Adventure Software. :P And Ionias' idea (G.A.S.) is a splendid one.

And Flippy D... 'monkey' and 'popcorn' technically aren't adjectives. ;)

m0ds

I said this the other day, and although its hypocritical (Screen 7 Entertainment ahem), you dont always need "Games / Software / Entertainment / Productions" etc at the end of a name.

Adeline (LBA, LBA II) is a great name. And the company Jannar formed which is now known as Serendipity Games or something, I thought would sound much better as Serendipity.

So, don't always think of shoving one of those words at the end.

:)

m0ds: valuable point, but it seems that I, personally, have a more difficult time trying to come up with the names when I don't pair them up with "Games / Software / Entertainment / Productions", but I will try your suggestion and see what I can come up with.

EldKatt: N3TGraph came up with GAS in his reply. Tis why I put it into my list.

Thanks for everyone's c+c. I'm going to work on my final list and we'll see what happens. More c+c and stories though!  :)

Hot crackers, you're right. Didn't notice that until Ionias pointed it out again. Yet I actually thought it was a great name even before I noticed that. :P

The current trend in company naming is big business is to take two "good" words and join them together to make a meaningless name that should sound good. I wrote a little perl script to do this ages ago and I've just re-run it and here's some of its best ones. Feel free to use them (anyone, but please acknowledge source somewhere) and slap "Entertainment" or whatever after:

TechnolX
Splendation
Scigon
Innovid
Metatastic
Titanulous
Adventurement
Technulation
IdiX
Accupotent

EDIT: I added some adventure-related "seeds" and got:

Taleactive
Interacture
Plentius
Intellaction
Intellication
Artitive
Merittect
Dynamcom
Excellal
Luminal
Astoundity

NB I haven't googled for any of these!

"Joyless Entertainment" needs the entertainment part. It's an oxymoron.

Scummbuddy

I do believe that someone else on these forums uses a "gas *something* entertainment' name, so I'd move away from that.

I like Eye-Eye Productions... but it might be too confusing having Eye-Eye Productions and Evil-Eye Productions (Femme Fatale's).
Anyways, good luck choosing a name.

Gaspop Software (I think it's software) is Chrille's company name.  He's the one that produced Pleurghburg:Dark Ages.

Why doesn't anyone just take his/her names and stick Entertainment or Software or Games or something more behind them?

Because all the Swedish and Norweigian people would have impronouncable names for English-speakers.  ;D

Updated with the third and final list. C+C and Stories. I've also struckthrough the ones I don't plan on using.

I'm trying to be more original than simpily doing that. Thanks for the idea though.

Well, you certainly could not pronounce my name right, but that haven't stopped me from using Eero Ränik Software everywhere (and also that you could pronounce it as "hero" ::))...

Why don't you just use your own name? Like I do: 'My game' by Petteri Aartolahti

OR

Petteri Aartolahti presents... 'My game'

I would love to hear when some non-finnish tries to say my name ;D

My company is named Humorous Games because I like humor (no, I LOVE humor) and in most of my games there will be some or a lot of jokes. A good advice to you if you're not sure of a company name, think of what the strongest passion will be in your games or the secret ingridient of how to make good games (or at least in hope of good games). Like my games the humor will be some of the strongest stuff in my games. Just think of something you really like and you can make a good company game.
