Title: finding a game i once played PLUS interesting stuff.
Post by: Chicky on Thu 17/08/2006 01:13:15
sorry for the boring topic but this is really bugging me.

I would love to find out what game it was i played when i was young.

right it was an point and click adventure (i think) and i played it on playstation. It had:

dragons as characters, cartoony disney like dragons.

You were a dragon knight

There were female dragons (i think)

And you were in a castle

That's all i remember, sorry its not much. I'm really high at the moment so i may remember more tomorrow.

Also if anyone bothers to read this part then i would like to chat about this too. I go through completely random burts of creativity with my game. I go weeks without working on it and then i'll simply work on it solid for days and days. Does anyone know how i be in the second mindset more often. I really want to get HTMI finished.

Also i am looking for a new musician to work with me seeing as Stefan Z isn't replying to my messages.

Also also, i'm sorry about my lack of posts recently; or lack of interesting posts. I really love this community and everything it gives, im on here every day and i simply do not give enough back to you guys.

So thats about it, sorry for the randomness but you know...

Lots of love, Nathan.

Yes, ten points!

Aww i'd love to play that game again. Thankyou Mordalles.

Now lets talk about the bottom part!

Explain HTMI.  Then explain this "Music" thing.

As for the mind set, I do most of my "work" when I'm at my parents' house.  Mostly, it's because it's a crappy town where I know no one.  Coupled with the fact that there's a crap PC there, that can manage PSP and IRC and little else.  With no distractions, there's not much to do other than pixelling and getting on the spot critique from the #ags crew.

Well, this might not really be a creative suggestion, but you may want to pick up a book on the creative processs. "Becoming a Writer" by Dorothea Brande is a classic that I know of. Although it deals specifically with writing, it goes into developing the creative process and eliminating "writer's block." I'm sure there are others out there.

Although, personally, I'm not sure there's much "creativity" involved in game-making once you get past the design phase. At that point, I think it's more about discipline/motivation: figuring out how to program/script it, designing the graphics, etc.

Well, you aren,t alone. I often have ideas for several kinds of games (None of which i have actually turned into a game yet mind you, cough :-[) but my inspiration more often goes in those top-bottom frequenzies than staying on an equal curve. My best suggestion for getting inspiration when the said is lacking would probably be to read a book, play a game, do some research or whatever to oil up the creativity. But creativity is an arbitrary tool so continuing to work as you do might perhaps be best.

Ritalin.

No, I'm serious, try ritalin. It works wonders.

I tried for 6 months. I had to stop, because I couldnt make any conversation without the other people ask "did you sniff cocain?"or something, because of the "turn on" effect. But its a nice drug...(dont mix with alchool, please) :=

I get this as well. I live in a town where I don't know anybody, I have no tv so I don't have that excuse, and I never go out. But I still get highs and lows in productivity.

I often find that if I want to pick my motivation up, I'll try something new - attempt a new drawing style, try a new line of code, explore some new themes with dialog - whatever. Often I'll try something new and it will work and then I get pumped and do real solid work for two or three weeks. Then I'll leave it for a while. But one day I'll be mucking around and accidentally achieve something I couldn't do before and get motivated to keep going.

I think keeping it exciting and fresh helps to keep the interest. I should try it more often myself.

I would advise the other way around. I found that when you want order in your head, for the chaos to subside so you can actually do things in the way 'normal' people do it, ritalin works fine.

But if you're creative and you take ritalin, it often takes the creativity away. That's what I noticed with myself. When I was on ritalin, I would not write. I was on it for about 3/4th of a year, and I did not write once in that period. I wrote no songs, I didn't work on games, I didn't play guitar or play the drums. I simply couldn't be arsed, and I had no ideas. The chaos in my head was gone, my grades were up and I was able to perform like anyone would.

But then I realized the chaos in my head is what causes my creativity. The fact that I have hundreds of ideas for stories, songs and otherwise in my head every single day, gives me a pool to draw from.

When I'm on ritalin, and I walk outside, I see people. I see things. I see occurrances. Nothing more. When I'm not on ritalin, and I walk outside, I see the same things, but my mind immediately starts wondering and working as to why they're what they are, and why they're there.

I have a tendency to ramble on about things 'normal' people don't think about too much. I see a bug, and I can tell a story. I see a nook in the hinge of a door and I can explain why it got there. It won't be correct, but it'll be an interesting story.

Ritalin made me a drone. Without it, yes, life is more difficult, but I get to keep the one character trait I love most about myself - my creativity :)

So i'll stay off the stuff then.

It looks like we go about things much the same way, Voh. I've never been a hardworker but that's because i'm a creatively driven guy. If it's something creative that im interested in i can work for hours at a time.

Right now mind you, this thread seems slightly pointless. You see i was thinking about what Renal Shutdown said and although there is no computer where my mother is, i'm sitting at my girlfriends house whilst she's at work working hard on HTMI and actually getting something done.

Oh and what's great is i've got another two hours of this. Then, much sex!

So yes, thanks for the response. I really didn't expect anyone to take much notice, i'm just going to have to find a copy of blazing dragons now to play on amys ps1.

voh, you have an excellent point, because now that I think about it exactly the same things happened to me ...

Taking Ritalin does help organise the clutter in your head and everything and it it's great if you have  a huge assignment to do and no energy or initiative. I know these things because I was on for about a 3/4 year as well. I was able to perform well in school I always handed in my assignments -- but some of my friends can tell you I was probably the most boring person during that period. I had no sense of humour whatsoever and often found myself seriously questioning my existence and my life.
However I always managed to do all my schoolwork, my marks improved and my room was always tidy. It really helps you to work if you can't do it yourself.

So to sum up it up I think if you have your whole game planned out, (ie you need no more creativity) and you have a free afternoon but you have no energy and you just need to a bit of scripting, I think it's ok to just pop a pill to get through the hard bit.

Anyway, it's up to you what you want to do! ;D Good luck with HTMI Chicky I'm looking forward to it!
