Just wondering about peoples thoughts on this service. Would you use it?

The fact that it seems to indicate the upcoming availability of indie-developed adventure games is interesting.

Also of interest is the availability of older adventure games; titles that would otherwise prove hard to track down.

It's good to see more download services. They are obviously the way of the future, especially for niches that can't get retail space, but it's clearly expensive for downloads. Boxed versions of these games would end up selling for the same or less. Consider that The Longest Journey is £10/€13/$20 on Steam, and $5 more gets you Dreamfall. Personally I think Steam is more expensive than it could be, but it's still 1/2 the price.

To be fair it does sell Runaway 2 slightly cheaper than Steam, but in that case they're both rather expensive!

I presume Adventure Gamers still have to pay some royalties to the companies providing the games, so I can see why they'd be normal retail price. But the fact you can't opt for a boxed edition at that price is a great shame. I'm sure it'll be a very popular service and if I saw some very well priced downloads in the classics section in the future I would probably be tempted. It's going to be interesting to see just how many older titles they're going to be able to sell & whether they can get a boxed version deal at some point.

There's discussion about it here with the guys who run the site participating. They're always open to suggestion for new games to add.

But they're not open to bringing back a decent news feed on the Underground section... :p

Hollister Man

This thread kinda reminded me of the box version of the Island of Doctor Brain I got off ebay.  I was lucky, though.  They did *not* include the original game extras, like the manual.  :p  The 'encycloalmanactionaryography' which is practically necessary to finish the game, but I still had a copy from my original purchase of the game.

Apparently, they were 'reprints,' licensed by Sierra / Vivendi to sell the game at retail, even in the original boxes.  I figured it might be a pirate operation or something, but the seller sounded legit, and there was a note in the box indicating that the original documentation was not included.
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

Your whole planet is gonna blow up!  Your whole DAMN planet...

This sounds highly dubious and probably illegal. Sierra isn't stupid enough to publish games without the necessary copy protection codes.

This is true. Runaway 2 retails (now) for E29.99 over here, as opposed to the E44.99 it cost for a brief period after it's release.

Seeing as it costs £19.99 from Adventure Shop, that would be...E27.79. Not that great, I suppose.

I always felt Steam was overpriced, regardless of genres.

The longest journey costs a paltry five pounds in my shop! Runaway 2 is £9.99 on amazon! Those prices are way too high.

I sold way more copies of Pro Evo Soccer on ps3 in my shop than expected because I happened to be selling it at a cheaper price than the competition. Sell cheap, sell more, bigger profit in the long run!
