Title: For faster development...
Post by: Arrakis81 on Wed 10/11/2004 12:39:05
Well I hope it's the right place to post thisÃ,  :)

We at Double Star Entertainment are starting the development of our first adventure game. Our name is Double Star because we are twoÃ,  ;DÃ,  I (programmer & musician) and a cool 3d artist: Iceberg23.

The storyboard is ready, but making all those 3d graphics will take some time, and I (programmer) don't want to sit down waiting.
So my idea (that has nothing new actually!) is to make "fake" room graphics (I mean 4 or 5 lines made in ms paintÃ,  :P) and use default characters to begin programming. Then, when the cool graphics are ready, just replace them.
I am not an AGS guru yet, that's why I would like some comments, tips, advice about what can be done and what I should be careful with while putting this idea into practice.

Thanks!

bye

This is a workable idea. Just be sure to check all coordinates referenced in the room script, after you put in the true graphics.

yes, you will still need to make appropriate sketches that will match your end graphics. you need to plan them all out, or you will be doing twice the work by changing coordinates and other object movements and such.

also, it has been stated before here that making a skeloten game with minor graphics is a great way to get your game done quickly, plus, if people play it with the minor graphics, and like the game, they may more readily volunteer to do the graphics.

Sounds like a good idea. Just don't get too ambitious, or the project will fall in your hands. The way it sounds now seems perfect.. I should try that, I'm just about never in the mood to do graphics.. well, If I get the motivation make two color backgrounds, why don't I put in the three rest colors aswell..?
