Title: For your consideration in the AGS Awards 2005
Post by: SSH on Thu 12/01/2006 10:38:24
This thread is for those who think that their game might be worthy of an AGS Award to post a small image or bit of text about their game and a link. Please limit images to a double-height sig banner (i.e. 600x100) or a small screenshot-size (320x200). Larger images may be removed! Any posts off-topic will also be pruned...

Please no FYC for the last two categories

This is NOT a nominations thread... this is simply to let people know which games are out there. Vince's post is a good example of how you should do it. If you think it is a bit tacky to mention specific categories just don't bother with that bit (which is, of course, code for "My game should be nomintaed in ALL the categories"  ;) :P )

I'd like to submit my short OROW competition entry, Anna (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=607) into the hat for the following categories:

(http://games.thexiis.com/media/anna_banner.jpg) (http://games.thexiis.com)

*Best Documentation -- Anna uses a unique Flash-based manual (http://games.thexiis.com/anna/manual.html) that can detect how far you are in the game and provide an appropriate hint if you're stuck.  It also unlocks some interesting background information that will be increasingly important should a sequel ever be made.

*Best Scripting/Programming -- Anna has a unique pseudo-3d look thanks to heavy use of custom-coded paralax movement (http://www.thexiis.com/media/test.gif).  It also incorporates some rather scripting-heavy puzzles and full keyboard control.

*Best Short Game -- Helm liked it!

*Best Gameplay -- It's definitely original.

*Best Dialogue Writing -- I'd like to refer you to Madmanmunt's comment on the AGS Game's Page (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=607):
Quote from: madmanmunt...while the game achieves a perfect, detached futuristic feel, this is countered by real warmth in the superb script. A heavily philosophical 15 minute introduction introduces us to our two main characters, Hero and the 80% organic computer Anna. That Anna can feel emotions means that her relationship with Hero is complex and compelling. During the introduction it is set out for us as the pair bounce good natured insults off each other during a debate about free will. The script is intelligent and wonderfully observed. It would be easy to ignore the characters in favour of simply setting out the philosophy that Anna has come up with but the game intersperses this weighty dialogue with realistic emotional responses.

Anna is not even a physical presence in the game and yet her relationship with Hero is the most intimately observed and convincing relationship I have run across in an AGs game. The pair lapse into their career dictated roles only when necessary. The rest of the time they are sparking off each other with witty barbs or engaging in emotionally escalating debates. I may be going to far here but I'm sure I even sensed a little sexual tension between the two...

*Best Non-player character -- Anna.

Thanks for your consideration!

Oh, and while I'm at it... Domestic Conspiracy (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=636) for:

*Best Demo -- It's unique and challenging!  Plus, it has a sweet menu!

Okay, shameless self-promotion, but I'd like to submit META (http://adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=653) for consideration in the following categories:

* Best short game because in its thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=23887.0) in the "completed games" forum, many people professed to liking it.
* Best scripting because it implements AGS within AGS, and considering the fact that the four "rooms" within Awesmoe Quest are actually a single room.
* Best puzzles because meta-puzzles are rather rare.

It probably isn't the best AGS resource even though it apparently teaches stuff :) Also, Cuppit tells me that he, as the most glorious blue cup, really deserves to win the award  for the best non-player character, but I think we'd all prefer if he'd shut up for the time being.

Oh as a side point, it may be useful to rename the "best scripting" award to "best programming", to distinguish it from "best script writing" or "best dialogue script" (because in past years, voters have been known to confuse that).

Alone in the Night is a short game made for the OROW competition.
Link: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=595

* Best Animation - The game contains a lot of different animations for the main character (at least for a game made in one week). The animations were shot against a blue screen with a "real actor" (me).

And here's a screenshot:

Buna Wants Beer
A very short and easy MAGS game I made last August.
Link: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=608

*Best Player Character - A lot of people have told me that Buna is one of the most original characters they have seen in AGS games this year.

Also you should vote The Secret of Hamster Island (http://koti.mbnet.fi/mwe/game_zip/Secret_of_Hamster_Island.zip) in all gategories because it's simply the best adventure game there has ever been! :=

For your consideration...

And here's a link to details about the game...
(http://members.cox.net/progzmax/mindseye.gif) (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=646)

I'm not going to describe why I feel the game should be considered for a specific category because my opinion doesn't really matter here.  These are just areas I feel the game was competent enough to deserve your consideration:

Best Game - play and decide for yourself.

Best Animation - play and decide for yourself.

Best Gameplay - play and decide for yourself.

Best Documentation - play and decide for yourself.

Best Story - play and decide for yourself (or listen to Esper ;) ).

Best Programming - play and decide for yourself- especially the light puzzle!

Best Player Character - play and decide for yourself

Best Non-Player Character -play and decide for yourself

Best Music - play and decide for yourself -I've added a link to the games page with just the soundtrack in case some people want to hear it without playing through the whole game again.

Best Character Art - play and decide for yourself

My most important message here is PLAY AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, please consider Dance Til' You Drop for Best Short Game since Richard Simmons would cry if I didn't at least try.

(http://members.cox.net/veradin/dtyd.gif) (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=633)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish everyone else the very best of luck!

You can nominate it for anything you like, but I'd like you to consider it for BEST MUSIC because Ghormak got robbed last year, and also BEST USE OF SOUND for DarkStalkey's amazing effects.

Stargate Adventure

***Best Game***
I tried to make a kind of a professional game and i spent almost a whole year editing detailed animations for main characters, nice backgrounds and simple but effective GUI.

***Best Gameplay***
Hm, try it :)

***Best Animation***
I animated almost every move/use of object for main character, a lot of "Water" effect for open Stargates + others.

***Best Puzzles***
Maybe they are not so hard to figure them out, but there are multiple solutions for half of the game puzzles and are very different from each other.

***Best Background art***
I spent several hours on each background and try to make it as good as I can, try it.

***Best use of  english ..NOT!***
.joke:P

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-> Maybe some of you don't like Stargate world, but I still hope you will try my game. :=

I'm proud of our ATC team effort and would like to nominate "The Great Stroke-Off!":
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=1&action=detail&id=540
(http://www.bushidokai.ca/ags/images/GSO_01_SM.png)

Up to people to play and decide what category or categories that this game might fall into, but I might like to see it nominated in the follwing categories if possible:

Best Game: I think we did a "heck-of-a-job Brownie" on this project. A lot of hard effort and time was put into this winner of the last ATC. I'm proud of the overall project and the efforts put into by the contributing team members, and I think the game is strong in many aspects. The art, music, characters and story in this game were all created from scratch specifically for this game.

Best Animation: "HillBilly" did a fantastic job on the Artwork and the Animations in this game. I mean, come on, doesn't the scene of "Uncle Ernie Polishing his Stick" crack you up? Ã, What about the complete panic of the nerds running away from a crazed chain-saw-weilding psycho? I think some of the animations scenes in this game might become really classic material.

Best Gameplay: I think the game keeps the interest and involment of the players from beginning to end, and, having a second alternate path the players can choose during game-play also adds greatly to the "re-play value" of the game.

Best Story: Oh, it's a warped twisted story I admit (hey, sometimes I have a sick mind Ã, :P Ã, Gotta love all those "stick & balls" jokes too... but if you honestly give it a chance you'll see there's a method to the madness, and it's probably one of the funniest stories in an AGS game yet.

Background Art
AND
Best Character Art: HillBilly really went The-Whole-9-Yards in truely artistic detail on all of the Background and Characters you see within this game. Yes, the scenes are almost "comic-book-like", but it fits the story, gameplay and characters so well. When a gaming-site reviewer says to the effect that's the art style is like the classic "Ren & Stimpy cartoon", I take that as a big compliment.

Best Progrmming: Ã, Okay, though it might not seem particularily "spetacular" in some ways regarding the programming, but there was a lots of hard work put into the programming of this game. Just to get the many animations sequences to work smoothly and at the right times and in the right way, plus the fairly unique Redneck Duck-Hunt and Drunken-Violent-Bums arcade games within the main game, plus programming two different story-paths within one game, it took a lot of programming skill to put it all together, and all within tight limited deadline schedules (and I should know as I did the bulk of the programmin' for this game Ã, ;)

Best Music: As far as I'm concerned, "Eigen Lenk", who did all of the original music for this game is a very talented musician indeed. He did a perfect job of coming up with just the right music to fit all of the various scenes within this game and it really helped to add to the humorous and bizarre atmosphere and mood of the game . Ã, Some people even mention how some of the catchy tunes "get into their head", and they find themselves humming it.

Ummm, okay, I think that's some of the categories this game might well fit into, but some of the other categories might suit this game as well depending on the consensus of the adventuring-gaming masses out there.

Ã,  Ã, Thanks to everyone for your consideration.

i would like to make people aware of a game that is not well known, that was released this year: (its a game made by calacver)

He's gone historical.

(http://img428.imageshack.us/img428/102/his0qg.gif) (http://imageshack.us)

Dialogue Writing: This is possibly one of the funniest AGS games ever. seriously, its hilarious. The dialogue is excellent. And just so funny. (to me, the funniest of all ags games)

Best Player Character: You play with Treg. One of the most original characters around.

Best Non-Playable Character: There are so many characters in this game each with their own personality. What's more, you can just guess their personality by looking at the sprite. Calacver is really good at giving life to sprites.

Best Character Art: I have never seen anyone giving characters in a game personality like calacver did with his 20x50 sprite sizes. i dont know how he did, but you just look at a sprite and know their characteristics.

Best Game truly one of my favourite games this year. play it.

i hope calacver doesnt mind, but i really believe his game deserved more attention.

I'd like to mention the Bunker (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=577), which was my entry in the June 2005 MAGS competition.

Best Player Character: I got several comments to the extent of, "The ronin golfer is such a great and original idea!"

Best Non-Player Character: Specifically, Garrick the Treasure Hunter. Personally, I felt that his dialogue was interesting and funny, and he's just cool. :P Also, I think that the skulls Soren and Skal and Nag the Hermit are reasonable considerations.

Best Music: I was very happy with the music I created for this game. In spite of the fact that it was all MIDI, I felt that it was well written and worked well in adding to the feel of the game.

Best Dialogue Writing: I received multiple comments praising the dialogue in this game for being witty.

...

Also, Javelin Catch (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=651) for all awards.

Um... Just kidding. :P

I really don't think my game had the best art in the world, and the music is ripped from FlashKit, but I worked really hard on it nonetheless, and think the story is really good. Thus, for your voting pleasure, I would like to nominate ESPER: The Town on the Edge of Darkness.

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=download&game=610

For the following categories:

BEST SHORT GAME- because alot of people thought it was fun, scary, and atmospheric.
BEST PLAYER CHARACTER- Ian McDermott is one badass zombiekilling mofo.
BEST STORY- I wrote it as a short story, and decided to gaminate it. The original short story comes with the download.
BEST DIALOGUE WRITING- Ian is also a fairly witty fellow, and anyone who crosses him either gets shot down or pierced by his rapier wit.

Da New Guys
[/b]

Best Story
C'mon - how many cartoon action comedies about WRESTLING are out there?

Best Dialogue Writing
The characters come from a wide range of places, so there's lots of different dialects and personalities coming through.  Plus it's funny.

Best Puzzles
Vel reckons they could be the best ever in an AGS game - gotta count for something!

Best Gameplay
Because good puzzles = good gameplay

Best Playable Character
There are 3 PCs in this, but I'd like to specially nominate Brain.

Best Non-Playable Character
Smiley Joe, the infant villian.Ã,  He's so diddy!

Best Game
You never know!

Bear Story
[/b]

Best Short Game
It's a throwback to the classic Dizzy games of old.Ã,  I'm a sucker for retro.

Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass demo
[/b]

Best Demo
It's got a decent mix of cutscenes and puzzles, showing off the new gameplay, graphics and story.

Best Music

Best Short Game
In General...

I was hoping for a category "Best original concept".Ã,  This game would fit there.

The link to the game is at the bottom!

I'd like to submit my game, Prodigal, for:

Best Game
I worked hard, and the combination of story, puzzles, music, sound, and atmosphere all create the game's world in a way that is uncommon for any game.

Best Gameplay
Prodigal's story and atmosphere will keep you glued to your monitor to see what is around the next corner, and what will happen next in the story!

Best Puzzles
Balancing puzzles in an adventure game can be difficult. It is all too easy to end up with utter nonsense like many Lucasarts games, and also very easy to make them too obvious like Resident Evil. Prodigal has a good blend of challenge and logic to all its puzzles.

Best Documentation
Hey, how many games include a walkthrough? I didn't want anyone to quit playing because they were frustrated.

Best Story
Prodigal's story is awesome! If you haven't played it all the way through the credits, you haven't seen the last of it! The shocker ending is unforgettable!

Best Background Art
3D gives the ability to have animated backgrounds like no other. From the green lightning shining off the Ela portals, to the murky reflections in the oily water, I'm proud of Prodigal's backgrounds.

Best Music
Prodigal's background tracks defy simple definition. Are they music? Sonic disturbance? Also, the tracks by Peter Thomas, and the credit track by goth rock band Shadowplay make Prodigal's soundtrack professional like no other!

Best Non-player character
Mike. Just go play the game and see why!

Best Character Art
Edgar Rocha's many closup drawings of Prodigal's characters give them a life and depth that is hard to achieve.

Best Use of Sound
So spooky! Prodigal regularly uses every available audio channel that AGS has! Play it at night with the lights off and the sound turned up!

Best Dialogue Writing
Touched up by lgm, and passed back and forth between four other people, Prodigal's dialogue took a long time to write.

I would like to put forward Bob Goes Home (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=647)

for the following categories.

Best Story: It's a fairly good idea, just maybe not a big focus in the game.

Best Puzzles: The game uses the background well to implement idealistic puzzles into the game.

Best Non-player character: The Janitor. You can just see the expression in his face!

Best Dialogue Writing: Well thought out dialogue written to be humourous, but still intelligent.

Best Short Game: The only reason it is here because there are not many short games that get entered in this category. And, well, someone has to make up the numbers.

If you play ProgZmax's Mind's Eye, just imagine it with the name changed to Bob Goes Home and that is what it's like. := :P

Hopefully, Bob Goes Home Deluxe will be entered in all the same categories (maybe even more) next year!

I'd like to nominate my game, "Alien Time Zone". You can decide what which categories it fits in with:

Alien Time Zone (http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org/full/Alien%20Time%20Zone.rar)
Alien Time Zone is a short game in which you play Ejak, an alien traveller who has somehow managed to crash land and get himself stuck in a cave on Earth. Using your time travelling abilities you've got to help him find his way out!

Though I don't really like to promote my self a whole lot, it would be pretty cool to win an AGS award. So here goes:

Silent Knight: Chapter 2 - The Conscience of the King
(http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=629)

Based on peoples response on the game I would like to have it nominated for:
Best Story - While the main quest of this game is classical for an adventure game. This second chapter is where story really starts to unfold and it literally takes the player to Hell and back. Plus it contains lots of references to everything from Star Trek to Star Wars...
Best Puzzles - A lot of people liked them.
Best Character Art - They are unique and I personally find it one of the best things about the game.
And ofcause Best Game but I'm not sure it stand a chance.

I would also like to nominate

Operation Novi 2D
(http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=629)

for Best Non-adventure

Just to re-iterate: All nominations will be selected by popular vote. Then there will be another vote on the top 5 (or 3 depending on category). This thread is simply advertising your game and reminding people of its best aspects, NOT for nominating it. A game not mentioned in this thread can still win, although it is maybe slightly less likely...

I just need to edit a few little things then my chronicles of the shoe: part 1 demo should be ready, is it too late to enter it? I did most of it in 2005.

Anyway, I nominate it for best demo if I can.

Hopefully I should have part 1 AND 2 ready for entry in next years awards.
Title: Zombienation
Post by: timlump on Sun 15/01/2006 01:19:49
Ok I admit Zombie Nation was a bit of a flop- but over 2 years of work went into conceptualising and learning how to use ags.

Its is about a lone employee of alpha corp being sent into Alpha city to repair  a communications beacon, and realising something has gone wrong.

My game uses voice acting and 800x600 resolution which no one else seems to use.

I nominate my game for Best Non-adventure (since it does feature a bit of gun play at the end).

Best use of sound (since it is one of the only games to use voice)

Best Background art (considering they are ALL 800x600)

Best Music (since they are all pre-recoreded no synthesized music at all)

Best programming (since I made a Windows like interface at one point in the game, which You must traverse to get a certain thing)

Best Story
Late one night, Grandmother Duck finds an abandoned duck egg in the forest. After discussing the matter thoroughly with Uncle Scrooge, she decides to take it back to her farm (where it is safe from harm). When D. Duck is born, he comes out of the egg with a clear vision in his mind: To win Andecity (Duckburg) marathon. His grandmother tells him he must make oat porridge that will strengthen his spleen and lungs, and henceforth starts one duck's heroic tale of magic and porridge.

Best Non-Player Character
During the game you meet up with your relative, fat uncle Jubalon. He is living proof that drinking too much soda will give you health problems.

Best Dialogue Writing
Featuring the naive norwenglish of the talented Bjørnar B, the player is constantly overwhelmed by emotions provoked by Uncle Jubalon's weight problems and Grandmother's wishes to support you in your quest for making the oat porridge.

Best Character Art
With not exactly traditional artwork, Life of D. Duck certainly has originality. Let's just say that Bjørnar B. brings character traits to all the beloved Disney characters that Walt himself would never dream of. In fact, he would probably turn in his grave right now if he saw this product.

Best Documentation
Life of D. Duck comes with an original printable high-res cover, a walkthrough to keep the player from quitting, and even the artists' own porridge recipe as an added bonus.

Best Puzzles
There's some original, logical puzzles in there related to lovesick squirrels and Norwegian cutting tools, so give it a shot.

Best Animation
Bringing Bjørnar's creepy art to life is a difficult and potentially dangerous task.

Best Game
I'm nominating the game in this category because it's an original game with a quirky plot. This game is as close as you'll get to actually playing those childhood drawings you made years ago.

Although the drawings look really unprofessional, that shouldn't stop anyone from playing the game, as most of the time spent making it has gone into making sure the game makes sense storywise, and that the player will have no problems solving the puzzles as long as he's thinking the right thing. It's also really educational as the player will learn a lot about nutrition!

Oh well, why the heck not...

Mirror 1 (http://www.gamersport.net/largo/demo.exe)
Mirror 2 (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=6093)

I'll put it up for best demo. I'll refrain from plugging it for anything else until it's done. (Which doesn't mean you can't ;))

I'd also like to use this opportunity to say that I'm still working on it, just about 50% now.

Zooreal
It's like Mind's Eye, only with a kangaroo! And some other animals escaping the zoo. You could concider it for Best short game, Best Animation or Best Background Art.

For your consideration, I submit The Winter Rose

It is available  here.  (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=643)

The game is about a young archer girl who must save her forest home from an eternal winter that has been brought on by an evil ice dragon.Ã,  Not bad for one (run on) sentence, eh?

Categories that this game might be suitable for are:

Best Story, on the basis of originality I suppose...
Best Gameplay because of the 'Retry' function after you die that enables the player never to be set back for testing theories or exploring options.
Best Background Art for the reason that it was all hand painted but then integrated realistically into the game.
Best Animation because of variety of crazy things the main character had to do (shoot her bow, pull arrows out of things, climb frozen waterfalls, row boats, throw snowballs, drink liquor, fall through ice, slide down mountains, start a fire, climb a tree, shake a gnome, throw a bucket of water, fight a dragon, etc....)
Best Puzzles because.... um....Ã,  they integrated landscapes as well as objects.Ã,  And of course because they were good!
Best Dialogue for reasons of amusement and information without vast and confusing dialogue trees.

That's about it, I guess, even though a few of the categories are a bit of a stretch.Ã,  Feel free to come up with your own reasons why this game should deserve at least one award!Ã,  C'mon guys, at least one!Ã,  Thanks for your consideration,

BaRoN

Can I nominate Apprentice 1 Deluxe for Best Music, since the music is entirely new for the game?

Edit by SSH: Yes!

I'd like to nominate my game of 2005:
FRANK THE FARMHAND PART 2

Why?

Because it's big, beautiful and has some really cool puzzles!

Best Non-Player Character:
Clifford the Castaway: He's been stranded on an island for twenty years, alone. Then Frank comes along and screws up his brain by telling him the island is inhabited. So he looses his mind.

Best Puzzles
The puzzles are very well thought through, which makes them both challenging and gratifying. For example: "The fallen rocks and the bomb", "The keys in the well".

Best Animation
I put a lot of work into the cut scenes!

Best Music
Featuring original non-midi music to increase the immersion.

Best Game
Well, you can only hope! ;)

Huh, SSH says my Game Template qualifies for a resource, so I am going to post it here as well.

The game I am asking for consideration is
"The Simpsons AGS Game Template". (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=546)

"The HomePage can be found here."  (http://www.energonplant.com/Simpmain.htm)

Here is ONE sample image to check out: (edited by SSH: sorry, Joe, one pic per thing, please)

What specifically am I asking consideration for?

Best AGS resource

Best Non-adventure--- as this can be used as a virtual springfield type thing.

Best Player Character --- Homer Simpson

Best Non Player character ---- Mr. Burns

And thats it. Thanks for your consideration.

I'd like to put a few things up for consideration in the "Resources" category.

First, there's AGA (and others') AGS Wiki at http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/

then, there's the various modules I and other have made. Some of the best games of the year have used my Savegames with screenshots module (Prodigal and Stargate) plus I've done loads, as have others like strazer and monkey0506. The wiki has a  somewhat complete list (http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/index.php/List_of_Script_Modules). Please add your own module if it's not in there!

I also want to make a game of mine a competant. Not because I have a big ego, but I definitely need some inspiriation (being a nominee always helps me... what?!)

It's Elestian Tales: Bittersweet Sanity

* Best Demo:
I only released a demo for now which includes about 6-10% of the whole WORLD (Not the whole game, it's going to be a lot larger if possible).

* Best Story:
Myself, I found this a pretty original story. Some others also complimented me on this, so I give it a go.

* Best Character Art:
I can't help people love my manga-influence. 8) :P

* Best Player Character:
This will be Maya, of course

* Best Non-player character:
Hannah was my choice.

Here's the link to the topic about this game, so you can get more info:

Since many people here have mentioned other people's games for consideration.

I'd like to bring to your notice Jessica Plunkenstein and the Dusseldorf Conspiracy (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=584") by Greg (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=4394") as the BEST AGS game of 2005

That game was the most hillarious full-length game with funny characters and witty dialogue not to mention spoofs. Especially in the intro.

Also the bespectacled Jessica can be nominated for Best Player Character

There were several characters(the matron, the champion guy, the llama) which could contend for Best Non-Player character'

Also Best Dialogue , Best Intro Scene, Best Joke , Best puzzles
Play the game. Maybe there are things I've skipped mention

Sorry Greg if I shouldn't be doing this. But your game deserves mention so much. It would be a shame if it does not get prize. So I'm posting this.

I thought Soviet Unterzoegersdorf (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=22535.0) was one of the most underrated games to come out this year.Ã,  The dialogs were funny, the concept was original, and the Russian voice acting was top notch.

The changeable music feature was very cool, and I especially enjoyed being able to broadcast propaganda whenever I felt like it.

I'd recommend this for best game and best player character, and it's really worth checking out if you haven't already.

I shamelessly submit my own Ben Jordan: Paranormal Warrior Within (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=559) for the p3n1s award consideration!

Also, please remember about my other games...
Title: Force majeure II: The Zone
Post by: simulacra on Tue 24/01/2006 21:20:55
(http://verkligheter.se/ags2006fyc.jpg)

I'd like you to consider Force majeure II: The Zone for the awards.

Best Game The Zone is a very unique game with a vivid feeling of "being there". It has a very comprehensive story, a strong visual style and a full soundtrack. All taken together, the Zone is a full, interactive experience not to be missed.

Best Demo The demo is a short story in it's own right, introducing you to the story and feel of the Zone. The demo to include 3 minutes of introductory video and over 20 minutes of music.

Download demo (http://interactingarts.org/thezone/downloads.html)

Best Gameplay The gameplay in the Zone is not really about what is happening on the screen. There are very few puzzles and very few obstacles in your path to transcendence. The gameplay of the Zone is to figure out what is going on and build your own theory about this new reality, very much like filmmaker David Lynch's works.

Quote from: mnemonicsA fantastically gripping and intelligent storyline had me glued to my computer for the duration of the game . . . or story, I should say. The Zone most definitely leans more towards an interactive story than an adventure game, as puzzles are kept to a minimum throughout. However, the real puzzle is decoding the reality or better yet the surreality around you. And as a result of such a dense, layered, and well thought out story the lack of logic or inventory puzzles did not bother me in the least.

Best Story The Zone has a very rich story with many characters, ranging from the tragic and depressive, to the mystic and obscure. This is more of an interactive graphical novel than a game, unneeded puzzles have been kept to a minimum, and are only present if needed by the story. What the Zone really is trying to do, is to ask yourself: "What is reality? ... and how do I escape it?"

Best Background Art Instead of conforming to the standard looks invented by intrepid adventure game developers like LucasArts and Sierra, the Zone has a unique style based on the suggestive power of the photography. Much of the story is told through the power of the still image, each frame carefully edited and coloured to suggest a certain feeling.

Best Character Art Five sets of costumes were made for the project, which were then shot on location to make them appear as realistic as possible. Several of these costumes can be seen in the screenshots on the game web site.

See screenshots (http://interactingarts.org/thezone/screenshots.html)

Best Animation The Zone features several minutes of video footage and full-screen animations, including a live movie set with two actors performing a six-minute ritual.

Best Music One of the most important parts of the Zone is the soundtrack, which is over 70 minutes long. Sad, broken and subtle tunes in the styles of electronica, electro-acoustic and ambient. This is perhaps the most ambitious soundtrack ever made for an AGS game.

Download free tracks here (http://interactingarts.org/thezone/downloads_soundtrack.html)

Best Use of Sound Aside from the music, the Zone has voice acted radio messages with dynamically generated noise. The Zone is also the first adventure game to feature a twenty minute session of binaural beats, a form of psycho-active sound programming that stimulates certain brain frequencies.

Read some exciting reports from people who have played the Zone (http://interactingarts.org/forum/viewtopic.php309)

Best Player Character The invisible main character of the story has a very interesting identity and a dramatic past to discover.

Best Non-player character The Zone wanderer appears at the beginning of the story and acts as a guide to the mysteries of the Zone. This person seems to know more about the Zone and about you, than you might think.

Best Dialogue Writing The Zone has plenty of long and complex dialogues that go beyond the simple one-liner jokes of many other adventure games. The people you meet are complex, tender and have many stories to tell.

Best Documentation The Zone has a companion web site that is regularly with technical information, such as troubleshooting guides and updates, and in-depth background information on the story of the Zone as well as the project.

Visit web site (http://interactingarts.org/thezone/enterthezone.html)
Read entry and reviews in the AGS game database (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/)

Does this sound good or I am just making this up? You decide.  ;)
