Title: FOY mentioned in PCGAMER
Post by: Chicky on Tue 13/07/2004 17:00:30
PC Gamer is the uk's best selling pc games magazine, and guess who got a mention? ...

yes our good friends down at Screen7!

The article is small and can be found on the second page of their "extra-life" section, they also mention "Maniac Mansion Deluxe" and 'The New Adventures of Zak Mcracken". They give te website to www.barnettcollege.com and also to the german developers fangame site www.brokensword25.com.

ohh yeh, i scanned it ;)

I really do think the underground adventure gamer community is getting recognised... err did i say underground?

And now it's just one small step to FOY being shut down by Lucasarts, hooray!

Eric, your so pesimistic...

as far as we could know, LucasArts may take on the fangame and consider some sort of commerical release, or as freeware on their site. Like Valve did with HL2D. As far as i know none of the sprites/characters are ripped, and the art is of a very high quality.

I wouldn't worry. I doubt m0ds'll ever get around to releasing it.

You'd be surprised at how well the development of that game is going.

PS: They wanted to do a bigger piece on the game, but they asked like, ten minutes before the deadline, so appropriate material couldn't be provided.

Woot on me for being the 'inside' man.

There's a BattleField 1942 - Star Wars MOD (http://www.galactic-conquest.net/) which LucasArts is actually supporting!!

Here's the X-Play Article (http://www.g4techtv.com/feature.aspx?article_key=239) about it (from G4TechTV).

So you just never know ...

Zak McKracken and Rode quest2 were mentioned in Croatian PcGame magazine and were put on DVD.

I don't remember the exact review for each game but for Rode quest it was something like:
Help Rodekill stop the deterioating(sp?) of his ship. The fans of the underground culture will especially like this game. The graphics are excellent and the dialogs are filled with briliant humour.

And for Zak:
This game shows that big studios and huge amounts of cash are not needed to make a great computer game.

I'm looking forward to the page 3 modelling.

Anyway, our inside man, mr kill - said it all!

And it will be released! It's all just getting better and better, the demo is getting much closer too! Keep an eye on the bar under the link in my sig :p PC Gamer said they may do a write up or something more substantial on FoY at a later date. We'll see :) I do like that magazine :D

I think it aint no news that the underground scene is about to explode, but i'm happy that the mainstream people will recognize that before it happens.

I agree.  Yeah...... like they'd take on the fangame?  They shut down Sam and Max 2 for crissakes.....

ALTHOUGH they might, cause it would be cheaper to produce the fangames because fanboys work for free..... then when it's done, they SWOOP IN AND TAKE IT, either with a stipend payment or without......

That's one point for Sierra.  They haven't been foolish enough to shut down AGDI.  Like they said, when I played KQ1VGA, I went out and bought MoE to pay for it, so to speak.  Sierra will never be the great company it used to be, but at least they're giving us adventure goofs our way.

Has Lucasarts shut down fangames before?  I thought Lucas supported fan efforts?  He actually likes Star Wars fan work.

That is a good questions. Have they? because I can't think of any LucasArts based fangame that has been ceased-and-desisted yet ...
