Title: Full Throttle
Post by: on Sat 19/02/2005 10:42:09
;D Has anyone heard of or played this LucasArts 90's adventure game called "Full Throttle?". I recentley bought it! It wasn't the classic 1990's edition, it was the LucasArts classics edition (obviously). Incase you haven't played it, it's a game about a biker who's pals are led to an ambush. After the first 30 minutes of the game, the president of "Corley Motors" is killed.

The game has a really complicated storyline, so I can't explain everything that happens in the story. I've only got as far as getting across the blown up bridge near the mine road.

If anyone has/used to have the game, just post here. :=

I'm guessing that majority of the forum members played that game. IMO, one of the greatest adventure games ever made. But then most Lucas Arts adventures fit in that category aswell.

But imagine everyone posting something about the game they just got. I suggest visiting the Popular threads board (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?board=11.0) for that kind of stuff.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Awesome game, I don't listen to those who say it was too short. ¬¬

Who wouldn't have played or atleast heard of it?

I've got the LucasArts Classics edition of Full Throttle... and of The Dig also. FT's a great game. I like it very much, I should actually play it again sometime soon...

You know, me and the bad guy have the same name. PWNAGE!

To be honest, I haven't finished it yet. :( I borrowed it from a friend, and gave up for a while at the car crash derby. I returned it, and haven't played it since. Oh well, now I have something to look forward to later!

Definitely a nice game, even though it's too short and easy.

...and has couple of irritating puzzles. But hey, at least it's much better than The Dig.

HillBilly, here's a guide to the car crash thingy.
I completed the game, this afternoon
1. Have the brown car chase after you
2. Drive off the ramp on the left side of the derby
3. You should land on the brown car, destroying it. If that doesn't happen, keep trying.
4. Keep ramming the brown car to the ramp on the right side of the derby and ram it off the edge of the ramp
5. Then drive off that ramp, and you should bounce off the brown car and land of the blue car, then watch the cutscene!

Yeah, that was my plan, and I would've tried it now, if I still had the game.  :P

I love this game. I especially liked the great voice acting for characters like the reporter Miranda (done by well-known voice actor Pat Musick) and Ben Corley(done by, if I'm right, Mark
Hammil). Awesome game!!!

Bens last name isn't Corley. His voice was done by Roy Conrad.

According to imdb (http://imdb.com/title/tt0189538/), Mark Hammill did -

Corley Motors Vice President Adrian 'Rip' Ripburger/Emmet/Todd Newlan, Owner of Todd's Junkyard (voice)

Man, why is it at every single Adventure Game Forum I go to, eveyrone's gotta be hatin' on The Dig, haha. I personally think it's an amazing adventure, and still remains one of my top favorites.

Anyway, back on topic, yes Full Throttle is an amazing game. Call me a traitor, but I love the "Action Sequences". Trying to figure out how to get those goggles... Man, those were good times.

Well, BersekerTails, it's quite simple why people hate The Dig... It sucks.

Does that clear everything up now?

Yeah... the bunny puzzle was kinda mean! I mean you blew up poor bunnies all the time!

Anyway.. the souveneir stall owner's speech

"Buy these cute little bunnies and your kids will shut up on the long drive home!"

That did make me giggle a bit ;D

I really like Full Throttle too. The bikefights at the Old Mine Road are my favorite. I alos like the hard rock songs plus the song you can listen to while around Todd's trailer (you know the one that, "My momma's face has dripped down into the dirt, but I'm still chasin' chitlens, whiskey and skirt").

The dog puzzle at the junkyard was a very though one and it took me hours to come up with the solution.

Mr. Colossal: Hey, not everyone disliked the Dig. I like the Dig but sure Full Throttle is more fun than the Dig.

Super Neo: I didn't think it was mean blowing up the bunnies. They were just toys, it would been mean IF they were real bunnies.

Agreed! I played it again for the first time in years a few months back, and I think it's aged incredibly well. The music and artwork are still just wonderful, and it's great to see Lucasarts streching themselves in a different direction.

As for Full Throttle, yeah it's fantastic. But it *is* too short - just as it feels like it's settling into it's stride it finishes. Even though Schafer wasn't going to be involved I still would've loved to have seen that 'Payback' sequel (the one in the style of the original, not the more recent canned action game) that was intended to explore the game world a bit more.

Both games, FT and The Dig bring a perfect cinematic nature to point & click adventures, so I loved them both! Both games kept me totally immersed - which is something very few other adventure games have been able to do. But I confess. I needed a walkthrough to finish both :P But yeah, FT nor The Dig should be dissed :D
Title: Re: Full Throttle
Post by: Lucky on Sun 20/02/2005 18:25:35
Well well, didn't I start a conversation...

Reason I don't like The Dig is because it's storyline gets worse and worse after the good start. I also don't like the empty (albeit beautiful) world which makes you run around way too much. FT didn't have these problems, so I can forgive it's low points (shortness and easyness, i case someone's not listening).

Full Throttle is, I think, the only lucasarts adventure game that I've actually played from start to finish.

The Dig might be a great game, but its name just brings back memories of dull archeological TV documentaries, and I can't summon the motivation to try it out.

More of a sierra guy? Or were AGS just a FPS engine that utterly failed?
Title: Re: Full Throttle

AGS was originally designed as a word processor, but for some reason people wanted to use it to make games and it kind of got sidetracked in that direction.

Something like the majority of the threads in this forum. Must be in the genes.  :=

Anyway, i liked both FT 1 & 2, and when i played it, i was still not too old to not appreciate the game.
In Pumaman's case I think, it's the age thing. He started playing MI's and Sam'n'maxes too late so he wasn't with them till the end.

It all comes down back to this. The age we played those games, or better yet, the feeling we had.
The alpha state of mind. The more intensive feelings and the enchanced studying state.... Bla bla bla, there i go again.

;)

(FT2?? What the...)

I felt that The Dig was too short (maybe because of the anti climatic ending).

I think I said this before, but Ben was getting soft. First he's riding over limo's, kicking in doors, smashing faces agaist the bar and doing wheelies. But at the end he doesn't even have the guts to steal a box of rabbits infront of an old seniel man.
Still, at the end of this game, everbody wants to buy a chopper.

I've been stuck in The Dig in the round room for like a year ::)

Yeah, Full Throttle was too short, now that I come to actually think of it. Back then when I played it it didn't feel too short, but now I realise how quickly I shot through it...

Cj, FYI, The Dig was originally going to be a film, and Spielberg played a role in the development of the game (somehow).. So that gives it a definite "cool" factor in my books. ;)

I can't say I enjoyed the puzzles or gameplay within the Dig, but I found the cinematics, story and graphics really quite entertaining. As for full throttle, I like the fact that it was relativly short, it's got a great story to boot. It's one of those games I can play over and over.
