I'm playing the DOS version of Gabriel Knight 1 on Windows XP. It's been running fine, but I've finally hit a problem.
On the opening cutscene to day five, Gabriel enters the shop and the phone rings. Right after Gabe makes the comment, "I got it!"
the game locks up, and I don't get anything but the wait icon.
I've looked for patches, but I can only find them for the CD-ROM version. Does anybody know where I could get a patch for the DOS version, or at least download a saved game AFTER the phone rings?
By "DOS" you mean "floppy" then?
My reccommendation would be getting the CD-ROM version and going to www.gabrielknight2k.tk and play it in win... ah well. Have you tried out this place?

I got 3 hits on Gabriel Knight - one for GK2, one called "Gabriel Knight 1.0a (CD-version)" and one called "Gabriel Knight 1.0b". I assume this latter, which is also 4 years older, is for the floppy version.
Thanks for the link. I found the patch I need, but unfortunately, it'll only work if I start completely over. If I can't find any saved games for download, I'll just have to do that.
I feel silly for not having mentioned it before, but Vivendi still hosts forums for the old Sierra series, and the Gabriel Knight community there is pretty helpful. You could go there and ask, you're likely to get a good response.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this? I don't want to pay £60 for the box set. I just want the game.
There is a place that I won't tell you about here. Expect a PM.
I had this problem too. But I just hit the space bar to skip the cutscene. :D
