Title: Games page <-> Forum profile link
Post by: Pumaman on Sat 06/11/2004 17:58:58
Along with the new web host, I bring you a new feature for the games page.

On the Games page, when you edit your game, you can now list people who worked on the game and what they did. By typing in their forum names it then creates links on the games page to each author's profile.

Then, if you look in people's profiles here you'll see a "My games" section. This will list the reverse links back to the Games page entries for all games they've worked on.

This means that you can properly credit people like your artist or musician, which the previous "author" setting doesn't let you do. It will also allow people to see quickly from the forums which games you've had a hand in.

Another benefit of this allows me to finally stop having to reset people's passwords. The first name listed in the Game Authors section will automatically get Edit rights to the game's page if they are logged into the forums, thus preventing you from having to remember the password.

Anyway, let me know what you think and if you have any problems.

Seems excellent! I got problems though...

I tried to edit my game entry for The Crypt, no problems to get to the changes forms, but when i press the button to update I get:

Forum verification failed. Your session may have timed out. (Auth=)

Strange, the form says I need not supply a password since I'm logged in as the author of the game. When I return to the forums I'm greeted as "Guest" and have to log in again even though I checked "always stay logged in"

What am I doing wrong?

Strange, it shouldn't be recognising you as the game author yet, because you haven't filled in the Authors section. I've uploaded a possible fix -- try going to the Edit page and pressing Refresh and see if it helps.

The first time, you should have to enter the password in order to add yourself as the game owner.

I've always thought a feature for people to look up all the games done by a particular person would be a good idea ^_^ Nice!

Great thing :)

There's only one thing... I can't get to edit one of my entries (MPLR, because I have forgotten THAT password), but as I do have my actual username as the game author name, I wonder if that could be somehow linked? Or would it cause trouble to some people?

----- EDIT -----

*people = users

and my head is not working, the game was my latest one... o_O

Awesome

One thing though... I think It would be nice if we could credit people who aren't part of this community.

Something like a adding a star (*) at the end of the nickname, would prevent the username verification in the forum database, and the name shown in the game's page wouldn't be linked, just an idea.

Thanks for this nice feature ! :)

Ishmael -- it would be possible, but that will only be a problem for a couple of months until everyone has added themselves as the owner.

Dorcan -- interesting idea. You can actually do it at the moment -- if the forum verification fails your changes are still saved and those nicknames do come up un-linked.
However, a way to make them 'officially' un-linked would be handy.

If anyone has forgotten their game's password, send me a PM with the new password you want, and I'll reset it.
