Title: Gangnam Style in an Adventure Game?
Post by: DBoyWheeler on Tue 30/10/2012 21:52:17
With the Gangnam Style Craze out there, wouldn't it be funny if the Gangnam Style dance were made as some sort of Easter egg in an adventure game... like maybe a future AGS game (if nothing else, as an inside joke)?

It wouldn't really be much of an inside joke. More a cultural reference, since everyone and his gran knows about Gangnam Style.

I put a caramelldansen easter egg in a Barn Runner game once, so I don't see why someone couldn't do the same for Gangam Style. However, the problem with such pop culture references is that they don't age well. The Macarena anyone?

However, if you want to pay homage to Psy and his eternal masterwork, then by all means do so.  :=

Hah, had some time on my hand, thought I'd whip up a little animated tribute to Psy. (Sorry about the white background... was too lazy to get rid of). Might try to make the rest of the dance, and make it an easter egg in a later episode of Reon Quest :D

Ayyyyyyyyyyyy, piles of laundry!

I guess I must be old and hopelessly not-with-it.  I remember the Macarena... I have no idea what "Gangnam" is!!

Some of them do. The Macarena was made in 1993 and if you play it people still know the dance.

The feet should not be left-right-left-right; the dance goes left-right-left-left, right-left-right-right :P

Haha I'd love to do a animation of that... Though I think it would be a waste of time.

La Macarena and Gangam Style don't age bad, they were awful since the first day, even La Macarena was another Los del Río's scurfy song without relevance during two years (and not even original (http://original%20http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtICfRIASEQ#t=38s)). Gangman is old today, do not put it in an adventure for the eternity.

Ahh! The shame! Psy would be so disappointed  :(

I'm afraid the gif maker I used only allows 10 frames, so I can't really fix it. But if I ever use it in a game, rest assured I will not fail!

How do you do a smooth animation like that? :)
Title: Re: Gangnam Style in an Adventure Game?

just like the old prince of persia animations were done, by tracing videoframes. And then of course improving where needed. And with way too much time...
[imgzoom]http://selmiak.bplaced.net/stuff/GangasStyle.gif[/imgzoom]
this was the original, with 20 frames and not so smooth looping (watch the right foot or his hands for example), so I added another frame in between and also changed movement a bit to fit to my likings.

Haha, right. I thought maybe there's something other than using video... like quirky vector animation or something.

vector animation... sounds interesting :D

btw, I hope to see this in future AGS games as an easter egg (or main character in Dance Dance AGSolution clones, or with an OSD head...), as this is the thread for it, so it is free to use in AGS games, just gimme some credit... :)

@Frito: Yay, my first remix (of something I remixed). Nice what you did there, exactly what I was hoping for when I made this and flushed it down the intertubes. Can you post it on DA so I can link it somehow there?

I like the idea behind the harlem shake and the videos are really crazy, but the music sucks donkey balls. After all it's just another internetmainstream fad, you don't have to take part in every fashion the others like, but if you want to, at least you need some basic artistic knowledge to take part in it, you  must know how to make at least one cut in a video and add audio to a video. This is a good barrier to weed out stupid stuff coming in. I wonder when OSD will become the new internetsensation, I mean even bigger than he is right now!

Hmm?

In all seriousness though I like the song, I thought the video was funny and its catchy. I still like stuff related to it.

Mixamo currently has a free 3D animation for Gangnam Style. If you have exceptionally high production values (3d models for sprites), that's a way you could get it into your game
