Title: Glumol... IS BACK??? No, really. It is. And its REAL!!
Post by: Joseph DiPerla on Thu 01/05/2008 20:52:04
As M0ds pointed out in another thread, http://www.glumol.com is actually back! And is REAL!!!!!

And it seems to be able to do all the things it said it could do in the past! Multiple OS support, import SCUMM scenes, templates, etc....

What the heck! Where did that come from?????

This is the 1st of May, not the 1st of April, isn't it? Is it really real? If it is, there's a big chance that SCRAMM will be released to, shortly followed by FOY...

Well, 2008 seems to be the year of releases.. First Zak 2 Between time and space. Then Glumol.

Whats next? AGAST being updated? RoBot coming back? SCRAMM re-continued? SCUMM REVISITED 7.0? Zak2 and the alien rockstars? Fate of Atlantis 2? My Simpsons Games and Templates? Monkey Island 5? The return of TROAICS(http://www.geocities.com/troiacs/)?   SAGE coming back for a 4th time? Is Jeroen Dekker returning?

WHO KNOWS!!!!!

And M0ds, I have complete confidence in FOY. Other than the Zak 2 games, I have been looking forward to this one. Here's hoping 2008 is the year!!!!

From http://www.glumol.com/ (http://www.glumol.com/):
"Glumol is provided as binaries only for Mac OSX and Windows at this time. If you're using Linux, you'll need to compile it yourself for now."

Well, there is you're problem, you actually have to read as well. ;)

"Glumol is an adventure game creator that allows people with no particular skills in programming to create their own game, like the LucasArts ones."

I'd also like to echo Vict0r's question. :) I also did some reading and it's obvious it's another AG engine...but there are several out there that fits in the description above, is there something that makes Glumol very special? The way I searched online about it, it seems got pretty hyped -if not legendary-  status, I just don't know what all the fuss is about. Anyone wanna do a quick briefing what's the big deal about this?

The big deal is that Glumol was announced while AGS was still in its low-res infancy. Several people on the forums announced that they were just using AGS while waiting for Glumol (or SCRAMM, or one of the many other engines in production back then) to be released. Ironically, most of those engines died miserably while AGS grew and prospered into the magnificent tool we have today.

So yeah, today it may not seem very impressive, but back then the feature list made people hold their breath.

What MikaelS said. When I say that I checked the link, I didn't just click it and close my eyes. But it just seemed like any other AG creator.. And the features it lists all seems to be in AGS! Why is this thing special?

EDIT: Seems to be for mac as well, so I might as well download it.

EDIT2: Nope, crashed when starting...

That's why it's called open-source, you can report and/or fix it!..

And if I'm going down, I'm taking m0ds too.... and whom else? Jannar85? Subspark?

Here's proof of m0ds whoring himself. Gaze into the past!

Hahaha! Yes Scott, I was a member on the forums, I wanted to see its capabilities, as it was effectively set to be the first Windows based adventure game engine; but I never said I was using AGS whilst waiting on GLUMOL.... That was definitely Jannar ;)

LOL at you finding a screenshot of that though, kudos :p

Here's m0ds and I goofing off, pretending to be moderators back in the day.

There used to be this one troll that would certainly get on my nerves and I'd have to slap him through his monitor all the time.

Well, a program that's been active for 8 months isn't really news, is it?  Anyway, I actually prefer how GLUMOL handled walkable areas with point-based polygons, and of course it uses python for the scripting which is a definite plus.  It has a slew of problems, though.
