LucasFan is just smarter and instead of getting as much publicity as possible for indy1 has shut down his website until the game is ready and released.

Just a wild guess.

I'm sad about this matter.
I hope, that LucasFan will come back!

It seems like there is an anti-adventure wave on the Internet?! Seems like everyone is closing down... oh well, if AGS would close down, i'd still have a copy anyway ;)

I'm with Vel on this one. I think they're just laying low.

It's pretty obvious just from the way they phrased it. They're shutting down their "web appearance" because of "recent events" (and we all know what -that- refers to). I'm sure they'll be back when the smoke blows over.

...or when the game is ready and lots of mirrors pop up.

They're not dead. In the Kings Quest Demise forum, the owner said he got a letter, and it's a little too late for april fool's day jokes. He even linked to his own website! This was after the message on the site was posted, which means they're under complete rennovation. They're still alive, just doing some stuff that they don't want to post. Fear not; they will rise again. ;)

I hope that is true because it would be such a shame to loose such a good agser as LucasFan and a one who made excellent LucasArts fangames. I can't believe that LucasArts even bother to tell fans to shut down the fan-sequels when they don't even work on anyone themselves. I mean, most of us are doing this for free and the fan-makers are guys who adore LEC's games, not dis-like it or hate it. Unlike downloading LEC's games free from the net, they don't loose nor earn any money for that we do fan-games. It's one thing if you sell a fan-game without licesense but not doing it for free? They should understand this and let us be.

Well, while we wait for LucasFan's eventual return, we other fan-gamers should carry on to kindle the fires of our love for the games we adore by not recoil at LEC's drastic actions but to continue making fan-games.

Now I think about it, LEC closed down a few fangames a while ago, one of them being scurvyliver's Fate of monkey island.

Yup, in my opinion this is not a strategic move by LucasFan. It looks like they might have been told to stop making the game.

Which is a real shame.

Gosh they produce quality stuff!

I think they have a "special status"... status quo they call it.

That was YEARS ago. That was two company presidents and to corporate restructures ago. I wouldn't count that as evidence towards anything. LucasArts generally allows fangames and fan mods at this point, and they have been aware of LucasFan Games existence for months. It seems sort of lame for them to go and ask them to close now of all times. If LucasArts really did ask them to close, maybe its because of the rumors of the old SCUMM library potentially making a future reappearance on the GameTap downloadable game service.

Scummbuddy is not Lucasfan.

Scummbuddy is an old skool Lucas Arts fan (who isn't).

I think thecheese33 was confused by this post http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=22957.msg282697#msg282697

Well, again, LucasFan did not get the C and D letter.

I hadn't been to the MM3 site in awhile, so thanks for the new shots. I'll check out the site once again.

I'd say they've been studying the forums intensely and realise that by the time it's released, the copyrights and trade marks will all be expired

knar, my fault. I didn't really understand your post completely. and the artwork was very similar, in my opinion to that game, not to mention the name, so please, if you dont mind, send me a private message with any art and story information you are willing to share, as I may update my fan games page on Maniac Zombies.

Whether LF shut Raiders down fully or to an undercover state, was in my opinion, quite a smart move. I would have loved to have seen this game, and perhaps if he's doing the latter - we still will someday, (wheres Farlander for the inside goss when you need him!!1). But I thought from the start that he was treading on very thin ground. We all know making a fan game could strike up legal implications, but taking Raiders and creating a p&c from it is extremely dangerous in my opinion. Whereas FoY just has to worry about the "Indiana Jones" franchise, LF will also have to worry about the fact his title already exists, action games for that title already exist and that that title still sells wildly, on DVD, its soundtracks and so forth.
