And by older, I mean compiled with any version prior to the one currently on site.

Is there an archive of earlier ACWIN.EXEs from which it is possible to "obtain the ACWIN.EXE of the same, or as similar as possible, version" (as the Knowledge Base suggests)?

On a related topic, since I'm toying with the idea of trying it out --
What's the expected lifespan of a game made in AGS (before a new version declares it to be an invalid file format)? Or is this strictly a DOS-to-WIN problem?

The latest ACWIN should run all games made with v2.5 onwards. You can also obtain the v2.31 engine from http://www.agsforums.com/ags_231.zip

If you need an earlier version, feel free to ask and somebody will probably have a copy.

Well, the next version of AGS could change the file format and the engine might no longer be compatible with 2.56 games. But this isn't a problem for a game you made with this version, since your game would be compiled with the 2.56 engine.

It's only a problem with DOS <-> Win, where you need a compatible engine version in order to run the game.

Thank you very much.

It would be most helpful if game developers could be encouraged to mention the engine version in their game descriptions, but in the meantime I'll just have to download and find out which engines I need to request.
