Title: Greetings, newbie here
Post by: SierraFreak on Sat 26/06/2004 04:43:53
I just wanted to chime in and say hi to everyone.  I've been checking out this site for a few days and decided to join the forum and give AGS a try.  A couple years ago I played around with AGI Studio and got in to making my own games.  Due to the level of complexity that was involved with AGI Studio, I never actually finished one of them.  I finished what could have been called a demo, but would have more accurately have been called 'abandoned'.  It just took far too long to do a background with the built-in tools for drawing them.  I have an awful lot of respect for Vonster drawing all his own backgrounds in Space Quest TLC.

But AGS looks pretty cool!  Importing sprites and backgrounds, being able to draw them in PSP, and the improve scripting tools make this so much more fun to do.  Now, if only I had some slight amount of artistic ability, I'd be set!

I'm looking forward to working on some games.  I can't wait to participate in MAGS, but I'm a little too late for this month.

Thanks for listening to me ramble!  8)

Jamie

SierraFreak - Welcome to AGS!

I've used AGI Studio as well ... and AGS is definately better!! (at least to me)

Here's a thread you might be interested in as well (being a n00b ;)) - The Newbies Introduce Yourself (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=13336.0) thread.

Also, make sure to read all the 'Read First' threads in each board ... some around here can be a bit harsh to those who don't :)Ã,  (just fair warning!)

Ramble on ...

Yes, and if you have me posting in your threads being a bastard then you know that you are being a stupid n00b... but welcome, and I hope you stay around and be a productive member. ;)

Ah, there is a place set up to introduce myself.  I'll drop a post there.

I did see the 'read first' posts in each of the areas, and I agree with everything in there.  I'm on another unrelated forum, and it just drives me nuts when people don't post in the right place or constantly post the same questions over and over, and over again.

Actually don't have IRC, but I'm happy in the forum.

I'll do my very best not to make you post like a bastard.  ;)  If I get out of line, I fully expect to people let me know that I'm being a stupid newbie.

Actually, it's funny that you mention the LucasArts games, and I'm not being a good adventure gamer for doing this, but I've only played Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle.  I really should get the Monkey Island games, and the early Indiana Joneses, but I've been either lazy or biased, or just procrastenated.  Is this the right forum to talk about series of games?  I'd love to have some recommendations.  I just recently discovered Beneath a Steel Sky, never even knew it existed.

Thanks for the big welcome, and I'm looking forward to participating.  I'm actually working on a background for this week's background blitz as we speak.

Well, when that day comes... you know it'll be me. Maybe even a few days before, cause I seem to hack on people as they are building their tardness meter up... not after. :-X

There's no way I could do that, I rely heavily on the tech forum o_O

SierraFreak, hope you enjoy it here ^_^ I personally love these forums, even for the non-game talk... there seem to be fewer annoying bastards here than in most places on the internet and everyone's pretty friendly.

He means don't get bogged down in the social aspects of the forums, because then you'll spend time here instead of making a game.

Vel, is that a teaspoon in your pocket or are you just pleased to meet him?

(P.S. I hate Sierra and n00bs and n00bs that like Sierra, but you're okay since, judging by your forum name, you think Sierra is just a bunch freaks which, incidentally, is exactly what I think!!!)

SIERRA it`s still alive ...........don`t forget that & LucasArt is alive too ...... it`s a pitty they are not making so much Adventure Games as they where doing the past 10 years ago .....
I loved those games, thats why i met with AGS (thanks god !), looking for good adventure games.

Sierra is alive in name alone. Both the Coarsegold and Bellvue offices are closed, and every single designer from Sierra's classic period has been fired. They may still exist as a brand, but that's about it...

Yes, I have two places in my heart for both Sierra and Lucasarts :) Plus, a few other equal sized chambers for various other kinds og games. Then, I have all these other chambers for other hobbies, and verious people I love, and things I like about the world... This heart of mine is just ENORMOUS, I tell ya. I flatten cities just by facing different directions.
