Armageddon

Just announced at Sony E3 conference. No footage though just an announcement so it's pretty awesome.

Do you care to share a link, my good man?

Tim's Twitter suggests it will probably come to PC.

This is an HD remake I can get behind

Fine by me. :) Controls were very console like and pad friendly. But I'm sure it'll come to PC eventually.

Armageddon

He did a playthrough for a Double Fine side documentary thing recently. He pointed out some stuff he wish he could have done if he had enough money back then. Like making it so you can walk through the Day of the Dead crowd at the start of the game, and cars on the highway and such. Could be amazing, an even more fleshed out world.

I'm curious how they'll translate it, if it's full 3D or pre-rendered again. There wasn't really much of an art style in the game, I mean everything had an art deco design but rendering it just looked like basic 3D tech at the time, not realistic but not cartoony either. Also the characters could look really creepy if they were full skeleton instead of paper mache.

Maybe I'll get to finish it this time around!

I doubt they'll make any significant changes to the game content. Sure, there were ideas and ambitions that they couldn't do at the time, but those constraints made the game what it is. Creating whole new sections risks messing up the design.

Not sure I agree that there "wasn't much of an art style" just because they didn't use any fancy shaders for the 3D rendering. (Besides, I got the impression from that playthrough that a good deal of the art was touched up in 2D anyway.)

I'm not as down on the tank controls as many others, and I thought it was interesting to hear what Schafer was going for with the whole "no metaphor" UI, but at the same time I really think it's pointless in an adventure game to force you to maneuver the character around, especially when it inevitably gets fiddly. Dropping the whole idea and moving to a point-and-click, hotspot model would probably be an improvement.

The fact that I could never get into GF even one full minute still haunts me. It's like I'm part traitor to the whole adventure game cause.

But man, those controls were a mess.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
I don't want the world, I just want your half

Grim

I personally liked it maybe even more than MI. What an amazing character Manny Calavera was! (I sincerely hope they don't replace his voice actor for the remake).

Tank controls or not, this is one of the best adventure games ever.

Chris Jones bought a copy of it at Brittens in 2004 or something.  Pretty sure he's never even tried to play it.

Snarky

Yes, but we already had him turned over to the Romans, didn't we? "Crucify JC CJ, free Flukeblake!"? I seem to remember that...

Armageddon

It's like you guys have never played a Resident Evil game. Tank controls make perfect sense, forward moves your character forward. It's pretty easy to ignore the camera angle and just know that when you press forward the character will move forward, right?

Trapezoid

There's a point and click mod for it. http://forums.residualvm.org/viewtopic.php23 I tried it out, seems to work really well.

It honestly takes me a few times walking around Manny's office to get the hang of it, but after awhile, it's like riding a bicycle, and I don't notice the controls anymore. Grim Fandango is probably my favorite game ever, and I was worried this was only going to be for console.

From the description of the video Peder linked it's Double Fine, the company the game's creator Tim Schafer founded after finishing at LucasArts.

I hope they only improve the visuals and don't change out the voices, etc.  This is the reason why I'll have NOTHING to do with the Gabriel Knight remake; the backgrounds don't even look 'better' than the originals, just 'different'....and the portraits are nowhere near as creative.  And no Tim Curry?  WTF is Jane Jensen thinking?  I can just imagine some weedy, focus-grouped fancy lad saying 'Do you know what Cabrit-Sans-Cor means'....and I want to spit nails.

I think they have TSL's King Graham actor doing Gabriel's voice.

Off Phoenix's Facebook page, I think, one of their postings. There was one comment that referred to the voice as "Gabriel with a head cold".

Well that's reassuring... (roll)
