I'm looking for someone who can help me - I need to create a puzzle box, similar to the one in Lighthouse or the loghouse in Black Dahlia. It must be very hard, since it's completely optional. If you think you can help me, reply to this thread (so it doesn't sink down into oblivion) and PM me the details (obviously, you shouldn't POST the details ;) ).

The box is rectangular, and should be about wine-bottle sized (although it contains smaller items).
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Kneel. Now.

Never throw chicken at a Leprechaun.

This sounds interesting, but since I've never played Lighthouse or Black Dahlia I'm not sure what you mean. Is it one of those 4x4 boxed sliding puzzles?

Kweepa

I think it's more like the puzzle box in Hellraiser (the film), moving different parts in a particular sequence.

Here's a walkthrough for the loghouse puzzle in Black Dahlia...
Spoiler

Turn the left lamp clockwise.
Push the small window in.
Push chimney down.
Slide the part below small window up.
Turn the mill away from you.
Slide part at small window back down.
Pull chimney back up.
Turn mill toward you.
Turn left lamp back up.
Slide long part below large window to the left.
Open door all way (180 degrees).
Push door to the left to the end.
Slide small part below large window up.
You'll get a key and a ring.

nope!

Why don't use a little trick?

1- instead of using the items of the Box...why don't you use the box itself? The player should press the corners of the box in the right order.

2- the player should move the items in order to "make" a empty space (special shape) which could be opened (hidden item)

As long as its mechanical in nature, involves some mechanism in the box, and has the result of opening the box, it's fine by me( McRea has got the idea). So, can anyone engineer it? Oh, I forgot to add - whoever steps forward for this puzzle will have complete liberty (within the specified parameters) to do as he wishes - even design the images on the box, if he wants to (and they COULD be part of the puzzle).

Oh, nope!? I didn't really understand your second trick...

"empty space" = trapdoor

...I thought that the box was already open.  :-\

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Ah. No, I'm afraid that wouldn't do. I'm really looking for something along the lines of Black Dahlia's, or Lighthouse's.

What I would do is make a new room for it (which turns the player off, and disables all icons but touch and look). Then make an object of each moving part.

And add scripts. If you touch the chimney, it moves up if already down; it moves down if not, but only if the window is open. If you touch the door, it opens halfway if the window is open, all the way if the fish is in the bowl. Etc. Scripting is probably easier here than interaction editing.

Of course one could use a three-dimensional matrix for physical simulation but that seems overly complicated.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Er, yes, thank you Radiant, but I wanted someone to just design me the puzzle. I'll script it, sure, but I'm a lousy puzzle designer.

Oh sorry for the misunderstanding. I'd give it a try but I won't have any time for the next two weeks. After that it's holiday so if you haven't found anybody by then drop me an e-mail.
