Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had had a go at Deponia yet? It looks as though it will fill the void in my life that the Discworld games used to fill but was looking for some AGS gamers' personal reviews before I buy it.

So has anyone got any info on it yet? Thanks :)

Ah, German adventure games... I wish I was up to date on those, but only a few months ago I got to finish The Whispered World and now I have A New Beginning and The Book of Unwritten Tales scheduled next. Deponia will have to wait.

I heard a lot of good about Deponia and even more good about the newest Daedalic game - The Dark Eye. Also, those 2 are definitely traditional games with proper adventure game puzzles and lots of custom responses from the main characters.

Nevertheless, the most fitting game for scatching your Discworld itch would be The Book of Unwritten Tales:

BOUT is also the only game of the above lauded for its English localization.

Thanks for the heads up about unwritten tales. i watched a couple of trailers, it looks brilliant if a little wordy in some parts (i dont have much patience for epic speech scenes!). I've heard about this dark eye, but its a little pricey at the oment, will need to wait a while for that one!

Deponia's on my list to check out, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd definitely like to toss in a recommendation for The Whispered World if you haven't played that one yet, though; it's one of my favorite adventure games from the past five years.

I'm a few hours in and so far it's great.
Love the humor and puzzles. Finally some good wacky puzzles again, that actually make sense in their own skewed logic.
Good voice acting (quite a relieve after disasterous localisation of A New Beginning), beautiful graphics and even great animations.
If the rest is as good as first 5-6 hours, then it will be up there with The Whispered World and Machinarioum.

Aw, I didn't think the voice acting in A New Beginning was that bad! I thought Bent Svensson's gruff, clipped delivery added a great deal to his character (although not too much of the other voice acting actually stuck with me).
