I was looking at my web stats and juncSource had over 700 visits last month. I really haven't touched this page since I put it up, but it is used a LOT.
Does anyone have any suggestions on easy ways to improve it, make it a better resource?
Does anyone have any material they would like to contribute?
Any advice or help is appreciated.
Thanks,
-junc
I ripped a lot of backgrounds from CMI the other day.. You could use them, I could easily rip the objects as well if you wanted... Or even the voice files if someone (for whatever reason) wanted them...
By chance do you have guybrush from CMI? That would be a great addition, cartoony animated character as opposed to the pixel character already up.
As far as the background goes...I had intended on doing this, but I just don't know if backgrounds would be all that useful as a resource. Maybe a generic outline of a room or something, but a fully drawn room isn't much use except to use it in it's entirety. That really isn't the point of juncSource, it's to give you templates to draw over. If you have something that you think would be useful in that sense, then yes, go ahead and post it.
thanks for the response.

Sorry, I couldn't rip the costume.. However Maybe you could use the save/load game background. When i ripped it it was just a blank book so people can use it and add there own text..?
Sure, that's good for starters.
Thanks.

i got somewhere teh sam and teh max costumes.. gotta search them.
but approximately (sp?) i only got free time in two weeks, gotta do some graduating (write abitur) ;)
...was that english? ;D
eh, anyway, I gather that you may have Sam and Max sprites, but you will have to search for them. If you find them that would be great.
Thanks,
-junc
good luck on your abi!
Hey juncmodule, how about Day of the Tentacle sprites? You should add those. And more MI-sprites like Lemon-head, LeChuck, Largo, Voodoo-lady and others.
I have the side and front animations for a character that we were going to use, but the animator who did it vanished. We have since decided to use another style, but I can post her. Maybe it would be good practice for someone to finish her.
Personally, I thought JuncSource was basically a place, yes to get templates, but also you could get good placeholder images and backgrounds. I know that if I had a decent character to work with (all four directions in the same proportions as the final character) it would expedite the creation process, and allow the animator to take the time to do the animations really superbly, rater thanrushing him to get them done. Same with backgrounds.
I have both FOA and the LSL collection I could work on, if you want, and of course BASS is now freeware.
Thats a good point, maybe ppl could post unused sprites from there games
Okay, Placeholder Backgrounds and Characters it is.
I just didn't want juncSource to be a place that encourages people to use these graphics in their games and nothing else. Placeholder is a GREAT word for it though. Thanks.
I would really love that abandoned character if you would like to donate her.
I would rather leave BASS alone, I have had contact with Revolution Games and they don't want their graphics ripped and distributed. They let me use characters from BASS for my Keptosh Remake, so I don't want to..."wrong them", because they are pretty cool.
As far as FOA, if you want to, cool, but, it's not the highest priority as I can extract them myself.
Some LSL rips would be cool though (from LSL5 and up).
Scuthbert makes the point that I am driving at. Unused sprites by AGS users. Fresh characters with styles that folks can't get from anywhere else, at least not without looking really hard. I would really like to make juncSource more about that and less about ripped art from copyrighted games. Not that I would get rid of the existing content, I would just like to expand it.
Thanks for your input so far everyone. It's a big help.

Well, I've got this sprite i made for a MAGS game that was never finished.
It includes:
Down view pose
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Pose.gif),
Sideview pose
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Pose2.gif),
Sideview walkcycle
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Funk_wlk.gif)
And sideview talkcycle.
All that in bmp format, zipped:
Funk.zip (6,94 kb) (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Funk.zip)
Feel free to use or discard.
Well...the templates don't seem to work with my version of AGS...maybe you could look into that...
About 90% of the time that is because you are using an older version of AGS. I'm not positive what version they were compiled on, but I would recommend downloading the latest stable version and trying that. If the problem isn't solved, let me know.
@Damien: Thanks, I will add him to juncSource in a few days.

Wow, I never thought of the idea of using placeholders before characters are available! That's a great use for this resource. Now, characters are not even close to being my forte, but if you want I can draw some backgrounds that I doubt anyone will want to use as anything other than placeholders ;). Of course, this'll take some time as it's pretty hard to believe the amount of work we have to do for school. It's a test every 3 days minimum, and oral presentation, huge math homework, etc etc.. :P
If there's something in particular you'd like me to draw and add (if you even want backgrounds), tell me. I mean, a certain type of location, sorta like Insta-game being in space.
I'm gonna use some of those sprites as placeholders now :).
Junc: I can help you with some Day of the Tentacle sprites. Now there is one question, when I have ripped off the sprites what do I do with them? Just send them to you or what?
Hey Junc, if you want, you could download my Simpsons Template, upload it to your site. If you even want, you could extract the graphics and leave them for download as well from the template. You have my full permission to do so.
Just check it out in the Simpsons thread for the link in the Games in production forum.
Just make sure that if you use my template that you leave the Zip File the way it is so that people could see the change log and disclaimer.
JD
Mats: You can just post them here. Or if you don't have webspace email them to me. junc@juncmodule.com. Try to keep the file size down.
Joseph: ROCK ON! That sounds great. Of course I have already downloaded it. I will do both.
Thanks,
-junc
Will edit this post...extracting some Sierra sprites...
EDIT:

There we go!
Sierra sprites: PAINTOVERS!
If people want placeholder characters, there's always Reality on the Norm... they're all the same scale though.
Okay, this is what I'm looking at right now:
Placeholder section:
Backgrounds:
DOTT/S&M
FOA/MI
SCI
AGI
Characters:
DOTT/S&M
FOA/MI
SCI
AGI
AGS Sprites:
Funk Guy
AGS Backgrounds:
AGS Templates:
MI
DOTT
FOA
AGI
Simpsons
AGS Plugins:
CCS by Scorpiorus
Rain/Snow by Scorpiorus
??
Programs:
Costume Viewer
Scumm Revisited
SCI Studio
AGI Studio
For characters under place holders I'm thinking about maybe two males and two females. For backgrounds maybe four interior and four exterior for each style.
ZOR: I will use Roger from SQ1 and then maybe 2 girls from PQ1. Also Gwydion from KQ3 as the AGI characters.
I need to ask Scorpiorus if I can put his plug-ins up on my site, and maybe get some others.
@Ginny: would you like to put together some backgrounds? Just some generic indoor and outdoor, whatever you feel like drawing.
Does anyone see any more categories that need to be added?
Thanks everyone!

If you are looking for more content, I got some more SCUMM Programs that a lot of people dont know about, like A SCUMM Font editor.
I also have SCUMM2D which can view games like ZAK256 if you would like it emailed to you.
As far as plugins, there is the TCPIP, Fire, And flashlight plugin you could add if the authors gave you the permission...
JD
Could you email that Scumm2D to me...junc@juncmodule.com
and the font editor if you want.
I think fire, flashlight, and the credits plug in are others I would like to add.
Plugins like TCP/IP, while a really nice concept, are a bit too complex for juncSource I think. Personally, I wouldn't know the first thing about using it or giving someone advice about how to use it. I tend to get a few emails now and again about stuff on my site, and I just like to be a little more comfortable with it. If you think of any others let me know.
Thanks!
later,
-junc
I've got no problem with you putting the fire plugin on juncSource.
Go right ahead!
juncmodule, if you haven't already noticed I have sent you the walking sprites for Bernard from DOTT. I'm sending some more when I'm done ripping and pasted them in Windows Paint.
Joseph, I'm interested in that font editor, and I guess somehow I lost my scumm2d program, so I, too, would like both programs you've got there. Thanks
"ScottRNichols3 at comcast.net"
It's funny, when I first started getting into editing SCUMM games I couldn't find any of the software anywhere. Now it just seems to come out of the woodwork. Nice to see that I'm not the only person hosting this stuff though, I don't think enough people are aware that it exists.
I never even knew that ScummRevisited 3 existed until you put it up on your site Scummbuddy, I always thought it was just 1 and 2. Same with Costume Viewer 2.
SteveMcCrea: Thanks! That will be up, great plug-in by the way.
Mats: Yup, I got him, thanks. Don't extract too much from one game though, I want to keep the content diverse.
I appreciate all of the help everyone is providing. Very cool. I'm going to wait a week or so until the suggestions stop coming in. Once I have lots of material built up I will begin to redesign the page.
later,
-junc
Feel free to take what you want. If for some reason, God forbid, that I am no longer able to make sure anyone can get these programs, I hope you, or someone else is there.Ã, :)
And I was getting Scumm2d and Scumm16 confused, as they are the same thing. Soo... I don't need that one, but I'm interested in this Font Editor. Thanks.

SteveMcCrea: Thanks! That will be up,...
No problem. Make sure to get the latest version (from 8 May I think) - there are some extra functions.

I want to keep the content diverse.
That's very wise!
QuoteDon't extract too much from one game though, I want to keep the content diverse.
No problem, I won't just extract sprites from DOTT. I will get things from MI1 and 2. Possibly Sam & Max if no problems occur.
Junc, you can link or upload the AGS ezines if you want.
@Vel: Thanks Vel, that sounds like a good idea. Is there someplace I can find all of the back issues? I went to your site and found the site that Darth Mandarb made, but the back issues do not appear to be intact.
@Mats: I wouldn't worry much about MI1 or 2, I already have Elaine and Guybrush which are really enough from those games, maybe The Vodoo lady and Largo. Just keep in mind I'm looking for two guys and two girls from each game, and don't forget what I already have up at juncSource. Thanks for all your help on this.
later,
-junc
Junc, I can send you the issues you are missing, just tell me which ones.
Well...all of them.
I'm sure I have various issues on various back up disks but that would suck.
So if you could just put them all together, zip them up or something...
thanks,
-junc
OK, Ill send you the docs, you'll have to convert them to pdf somehow, but where should I send them to?
@SCUMMBUDDY: I lost the font editor program. And let me know if you want SCUMM2D, its not the same as SCUMM16 as SCUMM2d is for windows and it allows you to view game files from Zak256. It is the same author and the program is generally the same, its just enhanced.
Let me know.
@Junc: I sent you the files.
too bad about the font editor. hmm. do you rememeber what it was called? maybe a post on the lucashacks forum or something may turn it up. but i am again interested in your program. i guess ill just wait till junc adds it, if not, ill let you know. thanks again.
Don't forget SMI for placeholder backgrounds (or did you mean that with MI?)
Vel: junc@juncmodule.com
Scuthbert: Crap. I left those out. Is it possible to extract them without it being a pain in the ass though?

No problem junc. Just in case here is the link to geocities to get them from: http://www.geocities.com/scorpiorus82/
Sorry.. for whatever reason o posted SMI instead of CMI ... Apoligies...
I'll send u the backgrounds I extracted (all though they are all from CD2 cos i lost the first CD :P)
Well, I found the Font program. Go here: http://hibernatus34.free.fr/scumm/
Also go here to see more info on it...
