Hey, I downloaded The Neverhood Cd-Rip version off of The Underdogs, and I've been having trouble running it. I downloaded the patch, the game fix, and everything it said you need (it even said to download Application Compatibility Toolkit if you have trouble running on Windows 2000, I tried that, and it still won't work).  :P  The game crashes before it even starts. Once I saw a faint outline of the Neverhood title, but it crashed instantly after that. Anybody? I know some of you might think Abandonware is illegal, but if the Underdogs has it, then it's probably not illegal.

I recommend you search there for Neverhood, there are tons of threads devoted to trying to get it to run. The best place to start is the site you got the program from.

Good luck.

Aww, shoot. I searched there for the Neverhood and people had the same problem as mine- except no one could tell them how to fix it. Looks like I'll have to downgrade to Windows 98.

If you PC is strong enough, you could try running a virtual machine on Win98.

i'm pretty sure i've had The Neverhood running on my win2k pc without any problems, although it wasn't the ripped version from underdogs, it was a full cd image from another abandonware site.

The ripped version of the Neverhood ran fine for me on XP SP2. I can't remember the details, but it's possible I ran it under VDMSound.

I also ran fine for me on XP but I also don't remember the details... However I could not save the game.

Interesting... what site was it?

Okay. After a little messing about, here's how to run the Underdog's rip of The Neverhood on Windows XP SP2.

1. Unzip the Underdogs file.

2. Run SETUP.BAT.

3. Wait for all the files to extract, and click YES when it asks you to add information for The Neverhood to the registry.

4. Right-click on NHC.EXE, click the Compatibility tab, put a tick in the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and from the drop down menu choose "Windows 98/Windows ME".

5. Click "APPLY".

6. Double-click NHC.EXE to play.

It runs fine like this, with the ability to save and load working as well.

As for Windows 2000, I can say. :-\
