Well Beyond Reality is finished and I have CDs and CD cases and I'm all set for the Trade Fair on Sunday... is what I would like to say. What I actually have to say is, "I'm trying to make it look not crap before the Trade Fair on Sunday."
Anyway, I'll upload it when it looks less crap. Like when I have actual pictures of the inventory items instead of the Blue Cup standing in for the Rope and the Fire Crackers.
Here's the thing; our Mini Company Coordinator was talking about marketing. Of course I don't expect to sell a particularly crap video game to a bunch of school girls or grannies trading on a sunday. But nonetheless, the effort we put in to advertising gives us 'brownie' points. Besides, if it helps me sell a few copies, I'm happy. And if I'm happy, you're sure as hell happy, maybe. No, that was a lie. Oh dear. Gobshites. Whoops. I mean Suckers. Whoops! I mean friends.
Anyway,
So I was thinking, "What better way to sell than a special offer! Two for the price of one!" And then I thought, "Who the hell would want TWO copies of a game, when they probably know they can just copy it anyway?" So then I thought, "Big Cardboard Stands!" And then I thought, "I'm too lazy to make that." So then I thought, "Free Demoes!" And I thought, "Oh, yeah, and there's only one E in that!" And then I sell the game for $5 with free demos of OTHER games!
See, if I include peoples demos on the CD, it works for both of us! Me and you, we were always such good friends. I get brownie points and make more money! And you get your upcoming/already released game advertised in a real market! The only thing being that when they follow the links to download your game, they'll realize that BR was actually available for free as well, and they've been misled. But that'll be after they've bought a copy already. And by then I'll be gone! It's a little method I like to call, "Geurilla Salefare". And of course, I keep the money I made and you don't get a cent! Can there be a better offer?
So, if anybody would like to donate a game demo or review to put on the Beyond Reality CD, do say so here. You need to do this now, before Saturday Night, because my CDR is slow and I can't burn 25 CDs on Sunday Morning. I know I'm ripping you off, but I'm doing it out of the goodness of my heart, and my burning desire for money and fame. So won't you give those demos a home? Won't you?
you can put my demo on if you want, the trailer from my RON game, just yoink it off the game's page
good luck
If you want to, feel free to have Buccaneer on there... Download it here:
http://www.unosar.com/buccaneer/buccaneer.zip (http://www.unosar.com/buccaneer/buccaneer.zip)
Technically, it is not a demo... but, in a way, it is. Short MAGS game that started the much larger Buccaneer II which is currently in dev. So, it technically sounds like a demo. :)
Wow, awesome, two neat games already. Of course, this does mean they'll wonder why mine is quite so crap. But still! I didn't realize you guys were such suckers! ;)
....Thanks :)
I guess now might be a good time to offer you these time shares, huh? There is no better way to invest your hard earned capital!
EDIT: Your entire game, Hobbes? I dunno, I feel lousy and mean.
You can put Fry 3 on there if you want to ....The link to it's in my sig...
You can put my demo on it too, the demo of Sam&Moos.
here's the download link :
http://minimi.spijbelaars.com/sammoos.zip
and info about the game here :
http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=9855
I'm planning on finishing the full game, late december.
And you can also put my completed game "Puddy Penguin" on it!
download link : http://minimi.spijbelaars.com/puddy.zip
game info : http://minimi.spijbelaars.com/solidus/puddy.html
You can put Keptosh on it.
In my sig.
I think Dave Gilbert played it.
And Goldmund is actually Adis Keptosh...don't let him fool you.
:P
Good luck with your scam/sale/market thingy.
later,

If you want, you can put... Oh, wait..
erm, i hate to point this out, but won't selling those games be illegal unless they were made with the version of AGS that don't support mp3?

Why?
Because... MP3 is licensed or something... like copyright, and you have to ask MP3 for permission, wich costs you pretty much.
Because CJ nicked the code for the mp3 playing bit from a freeware thing that didn't have as flexible a licence as the AGS one...I think
Hehe not quite, if you sell any game that uses MP3 music commercially, you need to get a license from the MP3 people. Even if you write all the decoding code yourself, you still have to get a license for the privilege of using the algorithm.
So technically speaking yes, you cannot put any games which use MP3 music on a CD which you are selling for money (unless you buy the MP3 license which costs more than a pretty penny).
You can put flashbax and apoc :vel on there if you like.........you might need to warn of the content though...
It doesn't matter about the MP3 thing... the whole SCENE is illegal, dude! You think I bought 25 CDs? D00d, they fell of the back of a lorry!
Well seeing as I'm stealing your stuff now... does anybody else want me to put links to their webpages or anything? If there's anything you, the scamee, would like to put on the CD, just mention it.
And CJ, can I have a nude picture of you to put on the CD labels? They'd sell like hotcakes. In winter. Hotcakes in winter. Yes.
It would be easier to rip of some mp3`s and print off the covers.......
I`m sure kylie, robbie williams and anyone else you can think of won`t mind you making a few quid .......
Everyones doing it.........
If you`ve got a dvd burner .........maybe the latest matrix film could make a few quid......
I think this is a more profitable idea than selling freeware ags games.

Esseb has a few nude pics of Chris. Just PM him.
You can use my demo: http://he.terranx.com/bts/BtSDemo2a.exe
:)
.........sex normally sells.
A link to my webpage would be nice.
I always forget about that silly MP3 thing. I go through all the trouble to make all of my audio .ogg based and then never port it over to the non-mp3 engine. Blah.
-junc
I'd allow you to sell my Demo to AQ2, but because of mature themes, it's probably better that it just remains as it is.
-MillsJROSS
Fortunately, ogg is superior to mp3 8)
(unless you have to transcode from mp3 :( )
You can put "Who wants to live forever?" (http://www.agsforums.com/games.php?action=detail&id=290)there if you want to.
Put ARE on if you'd like... Link to agagames.com too :P
if for some reason you are possessed to use my games, (prehaps to make others look even better) go right ahead! Just tell me first
My games, (BQ, GC demo) can be found at www.freewebs.com/stinkysoft
If you use my game, I'd like a link to my site too......it's in my sig also....
Just out of interest, wouldn't the games from other people have to have the non mp3 version aswell, so if you want to use their games, you'll have to get them to compile their games with the non-mp3 version of AGS aswell.
you can use my games if you like, but I doubt you will. (they aren't that well known, but better than alot of them)
heh tim, didja read the rest of the thread?
Yufster, you're welcome to anything you find on my website. Follow my sig below. There is an event timer that grannies, aunties, etc could use as a cooking timer. I created it to time a cable TV show I speak on but my wife uses it to bake with. :)
No games yet, sorry !!

Yeah, I read the thread but I was just making sure, cause the way I see it, people were telling Yufster about that point for her game and then just giving links to their own games, which wouldn't be saved with the right version.
I was just reminding the fact that it is not just Yufsters game that needs the right version, but all the other peoples games too. Therefore everyone would have to recompile their games before posting a link to it.
That's all I was saying, and I know some people were aware eg. junc
MP3 shouldn't be a problem: No license fees are due if less than 5 000 copies of a particular game title are distributed.

Yufster, I can whip you up a 1337 FoY preview thing. How long til you start selling? Please don't say Monday (tomorrow) !
I was gonna say you could put the Perils Of Poom demo up there (games/demo page) but I might be a little late posting.
I think this was happening today. Unless if she meant post by next Saturday...but, she posted this thursday or friday or something.
m0ds: You gonna PM me about that thing with the thing? :P

Yufster,
You may also be interested in usoing Bluster, my new game launcher/organizer. It's perfect for making a CD collection such as the one you have in mind. It's easy to use and it allows one to create an auto-run CD and run AGS games directly from the CD. It also has the ability to install individual games from the CD to the hard drive. Here's a link to the promo:

My demo-in-the-making is having its life choaked out if it while i try and scratch my.....head about how to find enough time to figure out how to make everything work. But, on to more important things. I'm all for naughty picture of Chris on your CD covers. Hotcakes indeed. :P
