Title: HINTS AND TIPS FORUM - ? days
Post by: sunshinegold on Tue 09/03/2004 22:51:35
Can you tell me for how long questions are kept in the Hints and Tips forum (how many days/months)  ???

After a certain time, are they destroyed or sent to another forum or archive?

I believe they just sit there until they reach the 20th page, at which point they simply expire because they're too old to store.

It'd be good if developers created a walkthrough for the games for future reference, IMO.

I agree with you. Developers should create a walkthru for their games.  Some are easy to play but others are weird but fun.

Lots of time we start playing a game because we've seen it in the 'hints and tips' forum otherwise we may never be aware of these games.  But then when we're stuck, some previous 'hints/questions' are not there anymore.

I am just a player but I imagine that the more a game is played/enjoyed, the better it is for the developer. :)

Hmmm have you checked out the hints pages (see the sticky thread there) ? You can actually add walkthrough for AGS games there.

If people email me with waltthroughs for their games, I'll add them to the AGS Walkthroughs page. Not many people bother writing walkthroughs for their own games though, and leave it up to me to do :P

When/if my 1st game is finished I'm going to include a password protected document in the zip file witch contains the walkthrough.
The password will be hidden somewhwere in the first episode of the game therefore, players that look at everything and try everything before the need of a walkthrough will be rewarded with a walkkthrough.
What do you think of that idea?

Sorry I don't understand, what exactly do you mean by the 'sticky thread'? ???

Also if  walkthru are being added, maybe there should be a note or a sign of some kind to let us know that new walkthrus are being added.

I think it's mighthy nice of you to add the walkthru to the AGS walkthrougs pages, but there again there should a note/sign that a new walkthru has been added (first item in the 'hints and tips') but I think that if a developer wants his game to be recognized/played, it should be their responsibility/obligation to produce a walkthru. If they develop a game, they themselves had to follow an idea/walkthru, so it should not be hard for them to produce it.

If they just produce/develop a game and are not serious enough about it to write a walkthru, then they should not expect to have a lot of people to play their game. If they are not serious about their work, why should we be ???

I think it's not really that important to remind people of walkthroughs being added, people who are stuck in games and want assistant should just search those 2 pages first before asking anyways.

Sorry but I still don't understand what you meant with the 'sticky treads'?

Well... A sticky thread is a thread set to be "sticky" by forum moderators so it's always on top of the thread list.

Thanks.  If I understand correctly, it's a topic or game that keeps coming up with more 'request for help'.

No, I think that thread is even locked, so you can't reply to it for requests, etc. It's just "sticked" so it always appear on top of the list and will not be pushed down by new threads. When someone is new to a forum, he has to make sure that he checked out the sticky threads first (eg. the rules threads are all sticky threads), so he can post correct stuffs according to set rules and won't ask questions already answered.

:)Thank you very much, now I understand.

I think this forum is the greatest.  Members are understanding and when we post a 'help' request, we usually get an answer within a fair amount of time.  I really enjoy this forum and I am happy when I can help a fellow-member or guest. :)

But secretly, we all think anyone who asks a question about AGS is stupid. ;D

Maybe I should have said that MOST of the members are helpful and understanding.

If we all HAD YOUR BRAINS, there would be no need for forums like 'hints and tips'.

Have a nice day :D
