Today's pmdee birthday, and babs had the idea (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=28052.msg512342#msg512342) of an hourgame session in his honour!
So
26 Septembrer 2009 - 20.00 GMT
HOURGAME in Pmdee's honour!
In so many words, you'll have an hour to make a game on a particular theme chosen by the host (tonight yours truly).
Around 19:15 - 19:30 I'll be on tokbox/AGS-IRC to gather few more peeps / draw some ugly trophies.
Yay! I hope you meant GMT times, that means I've still have about three hours left to prepare some coffee and stuff.
Triple yay for hourgamefest!

yesyesyes 8PM GMT, roughly 2 and a half hours from now!
Awwhat, the one day I make plans for 8PM?
25 mins before this silly thing starts! Stay tuned!

I am also on IRC edut: thanks FSi for the tip
A little tip: use http://www.mibbit.com (http://www.mibbit.com) to access the famous AGS IRC channel!
1. click "start chatting"
2. click "server"
3. enter "irc.adventuregamestudio.co.uk" into the server field
4. enter "#ags" into the channel field
5. enter some nick
6. click "go"
and there you are.
There's a rumor that the theme is GRAVEYARD.
Compo has started!
The theme, chosen by me in honour of Pmdee is,
Graveyard
Contestants are FSi, Babar and Codejunkie (plus anyone else who's willing to enter, really)
edit: Akatosh entered too
Gah. Why does this always happen when I don't have time? :P
35ish minutes way less left to our contestants.
Plus, some horrid trophies made by me
(Oric-Tangerine palette)(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9521/goldn.png) (http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/1337/silver.png) (http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2771/bronzek.png)
In the meantime, why don't you play
the remake (http://misendeavour.com/files/awidtd.rar) made by FSi of "a walk in da tomb"?
shoot, missed this one ;)
Fuck You I'm A Corpse! (http://www.sendspace.com/file/mb86y3)
Three endings!
Done my game too.
It's called "LEO THE GRAVEDIGGER'S ADVENTURE". And it's made with AGS 2.72 in an outstanding 800x600 resolution!
Features RANDOMNESS - virtually every playthrough will be different! (I shit you not)
The plot is hardcoded though, had no time to make it random as well ^_^
Should be available here: http://misendeavour.com/files/leothegravedigger.rar (http://misendeavour.com/files/leothegravedigger.rar)
upd: Should be downloadable by anyone now (as opposed to being downloadable only to myself, as it used to be)
I wasn't expecting to be able to complete a good game in one hour, but at least I managed doing some artwork: http://www.coolbluefiles.net/where_light2.png
It's actually a render from a Half-Life 2 map that I made and arranged in Photoshop. The graphical style that I'm using for my recent game.
:'( I missed one again
Wooh! Complete!
The Treasure of Obese Bob (http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/~babar/zips/Treasure.rar)
Roger finds treasure (http://www.sendspace.com/file/9096r0)
4 entries, excellent!
I've packed them in a single .rar which you can find here (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dyjmgqiz2t2).
You have 1 hour from now to play them all and vote your favourite here!
ok, so if i'll exclude my own game from the list (obviously i'd vote for it if I could), there are three others left:
CodeJunkie's Roger Finds Treasure - best graphics and best action scene
Runner-ups:
Akatosh's Fuck You I'm A Corpse - best dialogue, best character (sanity)
Babar's Treasure of Obese Bob - best poem and best picture of the moon
My vote goes to CodeJunkie for the most complete "game" with nice graphics and stuffs.
PS: Wouldn't it make sense to extend the voting period. There is no hurry, right? We might get some fresh votes (from people who didn't participate). 1 hour or something for voting?
I'll go with the Junkie as well. He has this whole "effort" thing going for him.
Runners-up would be FSi and Babar - the former for all the loot (yaay!), the latter because it features treasure as well, and also the moon. :=
Voting for Babar, because I really liked the
Spoiler
dialogue when we examine Moon
.
to be fair and honest, I didn't make that poem up, but if you don't know where it is from, I suggest you play the original game!
My vote goes to Babar's Treasure of Obese Bob - best graphics and hotspot descriptions. Grats to everyone, all the games were fun to play!
Let me go with Akatosh, since he had like 40 mins to do it all, there are multiple endings and some not so obscure references to other things.
I appreciated much the effort of CJs (nice idea, too) and the poem by mr. Babloyi too!
@ Babar: ok, voting period extended!
After playing all four games and deliberating for an incredible amount of time, I am going to give my vote to....
CodeJunkie
Congratulations!
However, I did like the rest of the entries too. However, the main puzzle (I guess it was the main puzzle) was a fun idea and swayed my vote.
Maybe I should try an hour game one day...
(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9521/goldn.png) CodeJunkie's Roger finds treasure
(http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/1337/silver.png) Babar's Treasure of Obese Bob
(http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2771/bronzek.png) Akatosh's Fuck you I'm corpse!
It was really a nice evening! Congratulations to all!
Congrats, Codie! And all who participated. That was a fun hourgame competition, with more entries than usual.
I just played them all last night and I liked them all. Although, no surprise, I would have voted CodeJunkie. Good work guys, maybe next time I can join you.
I think you should ask the mods to allow you to post every week or month or so, an hourgame competition on the Competition topic.
Yeah, I suggest calling it the Hourgame Saturday or something.
Well, I don't have much objection, but we'd need to settle some concerns:
1. I haven't visited the IRC channel for years. Could this really be popular enough to be made into a regular activity that is run so frequently as in a weekly manner?
2. For game making activities, we already have MAGS (together with other non-frequent ones like, say, 1r1w). I understand that they're different as the time allowed for creation differ greatly and that this community is about making games but I doubt whether we can guarantee to have enough contestants in each round since people already making MAGS games may not always (have time to) attend them anyway.
3. As far as I remember most (all?) previous Hourgame rounds were random and they were held whenever people had sudden interest to attend (or on specific instance like this one). Also, based on the short time limit (be it really 1 hour or a few hours) it's actually not that easy to manage such activities in "non-real-time" locations like the forums and it's even more complicated as different people are in different time zones. We still need some real-time locations for people to enter (IRC or other chatroom thingies).
If you think that there is enough interest to make it a regular activity, feel free to start it in the Activity forum. Note: if that happens you may need to think of more concrete rules first, and IMO it doesn't necessary to be a competition every time since hourgame was not started as such anyway. It was supposed to push people to make something and to let them improve on their skills.
Also, cool people who attend this, why don't you add your games to this thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=1851.0) to avoid them to sink into the bottomless abyss in the future? :)

I would join every week that I have time! The only reason I didn't join this one was that I noticed it too late :'(
Btw, what's IRC?
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/acirc.htm (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/acirc.htm)
Basically, Hourgame is/was an IRC thingie.
We used to do quite a few competitions on Stickam "back in the day", once every couple of days/a week, and I found them very beneficial. It allowed me to think in that kind of mind set and I learnt a lot so I vote YAY for a regular hourly games competition. My only problem is that it's on a Saturday, but if it held at the same time every time then I think it wouldn't be a problem.

If only you took your time and posted about them in the Hourgame thread. ._.
Most of them are in the Stickam thread if you want to sieve through it ;D

One of these days I will.
Most of them are expired mediafire files. I knew that as a mistake.
I KNEW IT!

I've made up some rules, and now we've got a participant wannabe. Yay!
I think it's time to clutter C&A a little :>
Yay, hourgames are cool because of their impromptuness!
Codejunkie, let us know something!
From PM, earlier today:

I won't be around Saturday evening though so someone else will have to host.
Second place babar
Me host? :D
If CodeJunkie can set the rules (even if he has to disappear later), then sure, but if I have to set the rules, this means I can't enter! :(

You can enter, you just can't win.
what if my game is more awesome than yours?
We'll do it the old way: with which hand you hold the mouse, Babar?
:o
What?!
I use a graphics tablet. WHICH I HOLD WITH MY MOUTH!
