I had a strange but enjoyable nightmare brought on by yahtzee's horror games...

KANDYMAN-IAC

Last night I dreamt I walked into a well decorated new style large house with a group of people. The first thing I saw apon entering was a boy, or at least I thought of it as a boy. What it really was, was an undead mummified child with an overly large head, more like a freakish doll, no clothes, skin the colour of tea stained paper, slender body, warped bubbly texture to the skin, no hair. It only stood about 2 - 2 and a half foot tall, and its monstrously large white eyes were the size of tennis balls with unclosing lids and vacant black pupils and no irises. It was dead, but continued to move and it had a childs mind and it yearned for death. It moved slowly, feebly and pathetically, and it asked to be killed. The child had used to be a disembodied spirit but now was bound to this rotten husk of a body that still seemed to live. So we searched the house and tried to think of ways we could end its life, as we explored the house it became aparent that rooms opened out, not into parts of the house, but into parts of this childs mind... eventually in the kitchen myself and a friend found a knife, a long sharp knife that we somehow knew had been used by this child to kill others. We arrived back in the lounge to find the child, in desperation, had clawed or ripped its own left arm off above the elbow in an attempt to bleed to death, but the slow leak of red blood and yellow wasn't having any effect. And my friend and I discussed if even running the creature through with the knife would kill it... then i woke up.

Not that my post is any help, but I think KandyMan wanted to share his dream and maybe have other people share theirs. Maybe dreams that are inspired by AGS/Commercial games as well.

That's one hell of a vivid dream, Kandy. I always dream very vividly too. Full color (as opposed to just greyscale or blotted random colors), memories that aren't real... cool stuff like that :)

Nice Kandyman! Good to know AGS games are infecting the minds of others in their sleep. Well, Yahtzee did always want to take over the world - didn't he? :) Your dream sounds sick and twisted, I don't think I've ever really dreamt about an AGS or adventure game, or any themes from them (that I know of) and I'd be extremely freaked out if I dreamt something along those lines :P

I go the other way. I have dreams, and then I create design documents for games based on them. This happens a lot.

That would make a truly bad ass game. What are you working on at the moment?

When I was younger, I had a dream that I can't remember right off hand, but it was one of the most surreal and disturbing dreams I've ever had. It incorporated a little girl whose appearance fluctuated rather greatly between a pretty young blonde girl of about ten years old and something rather similar to what you just described. She was trapped in a weblike substance in the basement of this really strange house, and the house was a hub between different realities. It seemed as though the world had been destroyed and this freakish girl was giving the the opportunity to choose a new life for myself. The door that I took led to a huge desert... Tremendously huge, as in, as far as the eye could see. On one side was a tower peeking over the dunes, and on the other, just at the limit of the horizon, was a giant wall.

The remainder of this dream was really long and really weird. It involved traveling to this wall, passing some sort of musical puzzle to open the gate, and finding that there was a lush forest directly on the other side of the wall. This dream became a central chapter in my first book...

Not sure if you were asking me or someone else, but I'm working on the game attached to this intro sequence, which happens to have been inspired by a dream. In any case, I have less time to work on this since graduating from full time student to full time employee. But I do have more money, which is nice.

I dreamt about posting on the AGS forums. Yeah, doesn't quite have as much panache I suppose.

"How to kill this Undead Child" would be a very depressing theme for a game. Although it doesn't really seem like a nightmare, unless it was in the general unknown "FEAR" sort of nightmare.

I very rarely have nightmares (I don't know whether to be thankful or not ;D), but I remember one where I was running through this huge house where alternately I was chasing this (supposedly) evil witch, or she was chasing me. I had a handful of cutlery in my hand, and kept tossing it at her, but when it hit her (and it always did), it didn't seem to affect her at all. To look at, it was as if I had thrown them against a wall, and they were sticking out like that. Finally I realised that it was the wizard who was actually evil, and realising that the cutlery would not work on him, I jumped off the roof of the building. Not surprisingly, I started gliding (I never fly in dreams, because I know that's impossible :) ). That wasn't the end off it, though, because the wizard started chasing me on a bicycle. I dumped all the cutlery on him, but it was no use. I wouldn't have thought that the sight of a bicycling wizard could strike terror in the heart, but apparently it is so. Thankfully, I woke up before he caught up, or I landed.

Strange thing is, if I have a nightmare, in most cases I end up chasing myself... that is very disturbing, believe me. Why can't at least my dreams be normal? Being chased by a monster is fine, but chasing YOURSELF... at least, I wake up when I realise who I'm chasing. Blah.

Heh, me too, only weirder. The explanation grammar would be quite strange, so instead pseudo-html tags:

[dream]I dreamt I tended to sleep-walk. In my dream, I woke up and saw my laptop running. Turned out I posted on the AGS forums about a game I was planning to do. Everybody was excited about it, and they went all "finish this game, dammit". Also, it had won an "idea contest". Problem was, that game was exactly the type of game I just hate, with promisises I knew I would never be able to keep.

I spent the rest of my dream trying to excuse myself for not doing that game.[/dream]
