Dear AGS forum,
My girlfriend is a big fan of AGS games. The Shivah, Ben Jordan... she has played most of the well-known and a lot of the less well-known games made here. Our anniversary is coming up, and I would really like to get a short game made for her. I don't have the skills, but I can pay the bills. Is there a person or a team of people who would be up to this challenge? I would be happy to come up with the plot and central elements of the game, I just need a team of technically adept people to realise them, in a relatively short period of time. Please reply if you're interested, or know someone who might be able to help.
Best Wishes,
Richy
Making AGS games / having AGS games made for your beloved ones seems to be becoming a new trend... :P
Anyway. The idea is interesting, but you should probably post some more information of what exactly you want, until when you need it, what exactly the "reward" would be and maybe some other details.
I hate to put a downer on your idea, but if your anniversary is coming up soon, it's very unlikely you'll be able to obtain a game of the quality of The Shivah or the Ben Jordan games in time. Games like these take months to produce. If you want something of reasonable quality in a short time, you'll need to recruit a team of people prepared to dedicate themselves to working on it full-time, which few people here do. For the most part, people who produce AGS games are hobbyists and earn their income by other means.
But if it's in a couple of months, I'm sure a willing team could produce a very respectable game for you. Like Akatosh says, give us some details and let's see what we can rustle up in the time available.
Hello Richy. I might be interested in your proposal, if you told me what exactly you want, in how much time and what compensation you have in mind. In case you don't know me, I own Atropos Studios, the company that recently released Diamonds in the Rough (http://www.atropos-studios.com/diamonds.html).
Let's all make games for Richy's girlfriend :)
It can become a one-month activity.
Thanks everyone for your responses. I understand that a huge amount of work goes into these games; I'm not expecting something of the quality of The Shiva or Ben Jordan in the time period available. What I'm interested in is a brief game, with fairly simple graphics, that would also have some specific appeal to my girlfriend. That said, I'd also like to make a game that other people can enjoy as well.
I'm a comedy writer by profession, so it would be easiest for me to make the game a comedy, and the amount of money I'd be willing to spend would be in the region of $500, possibly more depending on the amount of time spent on the game. I can discuss some ideas for the plot and format of the game in more detail, but roughly speaking, I'm thinking of a comedy/detective style game in the tradition of "Space Quest". I recognize the experience and skill of the people here, so I'm willing to defer to their expertise. Our anniversary is in a couple of weeks, but I'd be happy to give this to her in a month or two to make it as good as possible.
alkis21, Diamonds in the Rough looks incredible. It would be an honour to work with you if you'd be willing to consider a project on this small a scale.
I'll send you a PM soon.

Yeah, Dave Gilbert told me he's making a game called "The Marvellous Adventures of Princess Janet" ;)
Yeah, and CJ's working on his first game ever, "King Berian in Wonderland"
That's what I should have done.
In truth, I think spousal-game-making is just away of reminding ourselves that in spite of being retro adventure game fans we do actually have wives and girlfriends. Ah, the mysteries of love.
Or ex-boyfriends, if the game takes you too long to make. ;)
