I'll probably get chewed out for this...

...but has anyone played the newer adventure games? Adventure gaming isn't dead persay, but it is a minority, that's for sure. And it's being updated, and personally I think if someone can do a good job on the 3D aspects, then more power to the adventure gaming community. Anyway, there's two good ones that come to mind.

"Runaway" - It has a gorgeous story about a guy that gets uncannily caught up in the mafia. It's funny, the puzzles are well rounded and interesting, and it incorporates 3D characters into a 2D world which is quite an astounding leap in this game's creation. I found it to be a good transition personally, it didn't bother my eyes like most 3D cel shading does with other clearly 2D anime/cartoons/games...
The company is Spanish and so the game has been out in other countries for quite a few years, and the USA is just now getting their hands on it. So far the only place I can find this game is Circuit City and online. It's a nice $30 game. Well worth it. Go. Buy. Now! What are you waiting for!  ;D

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" - Have not played it yet, but I definitely want to. It being in pure 3D throws me off a bit, but the story and challenges look exciting!

(Btw, I discovered that if you click to the main page you will get a flash screen that details the game and if you click the either logo (from the first page or the flash page) a few times you'll get samples of a few different song tracks! Haha. Nice little easter egg there even before you buy the game.  :D)

Yeah, so. Anyone play these or know of any other good looking adventure games that are recently out and about? The problem is the lack of advertising and the exclusiveness of the stores that carry these types of games so I'm helping these minor companies out and trying to keep adventure gaming alive!! Even it it's in evil 3D mode. ;D

Well Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon (which is a sequel to two classic 2D adventures, of course) is just out. It's pretty damn good, too.

Runaway didn't have 3d characters btw, they were 3d characters pre rendered into 2d sprites (as far as I can tell).. and would have been much better hand animated IMO, but that takes a lot more time.. the cel shading was ok but didn't like the character models style personally.  I am certainly a fan of 3d though, I intend to make a 3d adventure game in the not too distant future.  Not just because it is the future and I want to look modern, it actually has a lot of things I can't do well in 2d and many advantages in animation.
Most of the AGS community is surprisingly pro 3d these days. Most of them :)

Making rooms in 3d is damn easy thing to do. Making characters - not. At least if you model everything by yourself.

That's why it's a good thing there is Poser.  I've done a "from scratch" model of myself in 3d and I did complete it, but it is horrible about having too many vertexes, no hair, bad skin, and other such complications. It's relatively cheap compared to other 3d software, really.

I can't wait for "Journey to the Center of the Earth" to come out. It's too bad it isn't based on the book though. That was the first lengthy book I read, my grandmother bought it for me on my birthday in third grade and I've read it several times. Jules Verne is awesome, even better than Tolkien to me because I like the sci-fi stuff better.

EDIT: I just played the demo, kinda confusing and involves a little too much critical thinking right away, but I liked it. I just think the plot is a little weird, she goes into a cave and automatically ends up where it took months to get to in the book.

I also just figured out the game's been released already, haha. I was confused because part of the site said it wasn't enabled because the game wasn't released..? $20 isn't too bad considering the graphics for this. Kinda reminds me of Myst, with the complicated door puzzle in the demo.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.
