I've seen many "I like [game], recommend something similar" threads, and thought, "Why not take it a bit further?"
So, I shall recommend some works of art for people who liked The last express:
Books:
Stamboul Train by Graham Greene
Movies:
The lady vanishes
The third man
Casablanca
Journey into fear
Feel free to recommend related media to adventure gamers!
If you like [chocolate-flavored ice cream], you may like [watership down].
If you don't, you may like [vanilla ice cream].
Similarly, if you like [Phantasmagoria 1], you may like [Rose Red].
Or you may not. Really, what do I know.
If you like Monkey Island 2, then you may like Monkey Island 4.
Although some people don't!
Okay sorry Vel, I can't take it seriously! It's like that annoying reccomendation system in Amazon. It's useless.
I believe that to be untrue. I believe adventure games are a work of art, and therefore can be related to other forms of art.
So, if you liked Beneath a Steel Sky, then you may like one of the following books by Larry Niven:
-Protector
-The Long ARM of Gil Hamilton
-Ringworld
Zapper, what do you believe to be untrue? I dini't find any menyion of anyone thinking games could not be art.
BTW, "I believe adventure games are a work of art" is very broad. Do you believe "Guernica" is art, or that Picasso is art, or anything painted or drawn is art? Adventure games, and more, certainly have the potential to be art, but don't be so defensive that you put them all under "art". :)

I think anyone who likes Robert Rankin novels would enjoy anything by Terry Pratchett, and vice versa.
Anyone who likes anime will like Fullmetal Alchemist and Eyeshield 21.
Let's see, what else...
If you liked Space Quest, you'd enjoy Futurama. If you like Futurama, you may also enjoy Red Dwarf (a TV series...and novels).
People who like Red Dwarf would probably enjoy The Young Ones, The Brittas Empire, and any books by Terry Pratchett (refer to start of the post)
(Woo, cyclic posting. Take that Einstein.)
Actually this system works quite well on HOTU and I think it'd be a nice addition to the AGS games database (e.g. people can submit "if you like <this game> play <that game>" and the database lists only the top-three with 5+ people submitting it, to prevent nonsense links)
Hmm... that could work. That could work very well! 5+ might be too low, but who knows. We could test it out for a while.

I'm pretty psyched to see Pan's Labyrinth, but now you've made me pee me pants in anticipation.
If you liked Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, you might like Peter Weir's The Last Wave.
Cheap self promotion drawing near! Beep beep beep! Cheap self promotion! Danger! Danger! Danger!

If you liked DG's pants-
I can't finish that. Grim Fandango and Pan's Labyrith are very different, but they each quite extraordinary in their own way.
Pan's Labyrinth was a movie torn between two worlds, underutilizing the premises of both, sadly. Not a bad film, but not very good either.
If you like any of Yahtzee's horror games (specifically 5DAS, 6DAS, and 7DAS), you might enjoy The Shining. Even though I'm pretty sure most people have seen it by now, it's great. Also, look for the TV miniseries, which is actually pretty good!

No, it is a perfectly balanced masterpiece, unbearably poignant.

If you liked Day of The Tentacle, you may like Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and the sequel, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. I seriously believe them to be the two funniest and awesome books I've ever read, other than The Hitch-hiker's Guide to The Galaxy.
If you liked Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, you might also like Angel Heart.
If you liked Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within, you might also like Interview with the Vampire.
If you liked Gabriel Knight: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned, you might also like The Da Vinci Code, or hate it.
If you liked Phantasmagoria, you might also like The Shining.
If you liked Phantasmagoria 2, you might also like Jacob's Ladder.
