Can't seem to find any recent iterations on the boards :)
There were plans to start a new OROW, but then the Monster illustration workshop (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=48175.0) started. I'm sure there will be an OROW after the workshop has ended :)
Better make only one event at the time so people have enough time for it!
Fair enough :D Thanks for the response
I'd totally be down for an OROW :D
+1 Vote for OROW. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and start mine now. Let me know when the rest of you guys are ready. :=
I could go for one...right...about...now!
The last OROW held was in 2011, as far as I can see, and ran from the 1st to the 8th of August.
I didn't enter. :(
I might be interested in participating :D
I think if there's an OROW, we shouldn't have a MAGS running at the same time. It's the reason I didn't join the last OROW, I was "trying" to finish a MAGS game.
Then perhaps the next following MAGS could be the: finish a game you've currently worked on. Giving everyone the opportunity to finish the OROW game they may not have had time to complete, or any other game they have sitting on their hard drive.
Ryan, what if OROW started the same day a new MAGS starts? Those who don't finish in time for OROW would continue for MAGS.
If that were the case you'd either have to build your OROW to fit the MAGS theme, or bend the game to fit the theme if you overshot the deadline. I'm interested in an OROW, but I'm also pretty burned out from just having finished my last game, so we'll see.
I likely won't be entering. I'm busy working on the AGS Kart thing and it's taking up quite a bit of my time. It was mostly just a suggestion - because it's the very reason I didn't join the last OROW, and I was upset by it.
I would like to join, but if it's before the middle of July I won't have time for it.
Last time around, I turned my OROW game into a MAGS game by expanding it a bit and took advantage of a loophole to enter the both. I lost both contests, but I feel like making both deadlines was a victory in itself.
For what it's worth, I'm all for a a "finish your MAGS" theme as a lead up to OROW later this year. I have about half a dozen unfinished MAGS games cluttering my hard drive. It would be nice to get one of them out the door this year. :embarrassed:
I am SO keen :-)
We can fire one up after the illustration workshop has ended. I don't know how much time people have (for me this time of year is the busiest) but it's worth a shot.
So it's settled that it begins right after the workshop? Or is this a thread where we can discuss the dates? I want to try and join. And if it's early June it's gonna be rough. Late June, all of July and August work for me (taking time off to work at a project of mine)
I'll try to join in whenever it is, but still.
I might consider joining in. But I'm actually on a good flow with my current project at the moment. We'll see.
If I had time when it was run, I'd love to join in.
July (not the first week)/August would work for me. (nod)
Did someone say OROW!??!?
I'd like to join but I'm not really sure whether my job contract forbids me to do so. July/August might be okay for me.
I'd join. It's getting to that point where I could use a distraction from my main project.

Your long in the works, secret Oceanspirit Dennis project?
Seriously, why get my hopes up just to dash them? Why!?!Late July / early August would work for me too.
Since the monster workshop ends tonight:
What about doing OROW the first week of a month and then have the MAGS theme "Finish your OROW game"? This way people can do both.
That requires cooperation of a MAGS winner, though, since MAGS themes are set by a previous winner.
Generally speaking I'm not a fan. If everybody knows that you can have the rest of the month to finish your OROW, then it's not really an OROW.

But it only counts as a OROW game if you finish it in one week. Otherwise it's just a MAGS game that was cobbled out of a failed OROW game. And if you don't make the MAGS deadline either, then it's a double failure of the game and all the kids will point and laugh at you. ;)
I don't actually understand why it should be a MAGS topic at all. If you can't finish in time but want to finish the game up anyway, then why not just do so? It feels strange to have a competition for those that failed at the competition, like a sprite jam for those who couldn't stay within the outlines of a coloring ball :P
Yes I agree, the OROW should be a separate event really if you ask me. However if a MAGS winner decides to do a 'finish your game' theme that is fine ihmo. So if you like that remember to get your bribes ready after the MAGS finishes. ;)
I think they should be separate as well! :)
WE WANT OROW! WE WANT OROW!
I also think it shouldn't be anything to do with MAGS. But what do I know.
Having not participated in either MAGS or OROW, I'm not sure how much weight my opinion holds.
That said, I believe MAGS and OROW should be separate. I would really like to try my hand at either, actually, and had I not participated in the Monster Workshop, I may have taken part in the Underwater themed MAGS.
As this is about OROW, I'll put in my support. How about run the two concurrently? Next month, have both start at the same time. I'm not likely to have the time to do both, but this way, at least I could make an informed decision about which one to attempt.
Ok, this MAGS thing was a silly idea of me. Let's just start an OROW!

I still support the idea, for whatever that's worth. A dual OROW/MAGS event sounds like a good idea. Any games made for OROW that don't get finished in time will still have a second chance to see the light of day as a MAGS game. Sounds like a win/win to me. (nod)
On the MORrOW let's have OROW!
It seems like everyone is keen, so lets do it? First week of July?

I'm leaning towards the last week of July, myself. But either way, I'm in.
As long as it's in July can't say I have any objections.
First week of July. (Better to take advantage of a MAGS tie-in  )
I can't say if I'll have time then, but will join if available.
The sooner the better!

I agree! I can't wait any longer! OROD! (One Room One Day) ;)
Still hoping for July 1-7
I also think it would be a great way for someone like myself (noob/learning AGS) to finally take the plunge and get my hands dirty and make something :-)
Cool, July sounds fine ... I'd love to participate in some OROWness!

Well, I think that 1st of July will be best date to start a OROW competition. We all should hold a sort of election for this. If enough votes are casted as positive then we can start right away. On a side note, there are already many positive votes casted for the above mention date. It will not matter if OROW run alongside MAGS. (Maybe, hold election on this one too (laugh) )
P.S: Interestingly, 1st of July falls on Monday.
Let's do this. (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=48409.0)
Edit: Also, I want an OROW cookie NOW!
