Seconded!   ;D

Can't wait for this one.   :D

More pertinently, seeing as this also seems to be the end of AGDi, where are the games going to be hosted in future?
Stuart "Sslaxx" Moore.

AGD2

We'll keep the site and games hosted up there for as long as Activision allows us to.

Hopefully they'll just permit the hosting to continue indefinitely.

Awesome!

Maybe a stupid question but for King's Quest III Redux: what does 'Redux' means?

Sslaxx

From what I understand, it's not as much a rewrite as KQ2+ was, but it isn't a 1:1 remake. At least that's what I understood http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=9923.msg311412#msg311412 the TSL forums...

Redux is essentially a fancy word for "revisit" or "return". I've explained the name in the thread I wrote about the project's history on our forums. To quote myself there:

QuoteSo what is it? And why call it Redux? We figured calling it KQ3VGA (after KQ1VGA) or KQ3+ (after KQ2+) wouldn’t describe the game well, because the game lies somewhere in between both extremes. It’s not a 1:1 remake like KQ1VGA is, nor is it a major reworking like KQ2+ where many characters’ roles were spun around. The underlying plot remains the same, but many existing elements have been given more personality and polish. A few new elements were added, but not on KQ2’s scale. So we gave the game its own unique moniker.

Man for some reason Erpy i couldnt log in to your site. I'm almost positive I'm a member at AGDinteractive but it wouldnt work. Plus i couldn't register that damn random text i tried seriously like 40 times and it kept saying i had an error.

Anyways on topic can't wait for this. The closest surprise remake before this was when i came to this site for the first time in July a few years back and A Tale of Two Kingdoms had been released a day before. It's def cool that since you had other announced games for everyone to worry about you were able to keep KQ3 redux a secret. The only bummer in my mind is that leaves KQ4 as the only one without a point and click VGA version. I know magic mirror is working on one but who knows if that one will make it to the end. I almost wish you had done KQ4 since IA already did KQ3 but i completely understand that you had a KQ3 remake already started just not known by the mass public. All your games have been great so looking forward to this surprise release. Def looking forward to the Himlaya QFG type game coming out as well in the future.

I'm kinda torn on this one. On one hand, AGDI produces amazing remakes and reduxes (reduces?), but on the other, Infamous Adventures already did a remake of KQ3... with Josh Mandel as King Graham again, to boot... and it was amazing. I'm definitely downloading and playing this, but I just can't help but think that I'll end up comparing it to IA's version.

This remake also has a voicepack and also features Josh Mandel as King Graham. We feel the game is definitely capable of standing up to comparison to IA's version.

AGD2

You can really think of King's Quest III Redux as an extension to our non-canonical King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones story.  In other words, AGDI's two games combine to make one long saga.  Whereas the Infamous Adventures KQ3 remake can be played more as a continuation of Sierra's official series.

Even though they're both remakes of the same Sierra title, it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges. And although comparisons are inevitably going to occur, the games are both very different interpretations of the source material. That should be kept in mind when playing them so that each can stand on its own merits.

TerranRich

That makes sense. I'll keep that in mind when playing your remake, and take it at its own worth. You guys make amazing remakes (KQ2 was my favorite, QfG2 a close second), so I'm sure we won't be disappointed one bit.

Looks like you guys did a great job on this from what I've seen so far.

deltamatrix

I have already playtested this game!

It was awesome then, it will be awesome in February. Another fine use of AGS.

this is weird - and I'm confused. I'm not complaining, on the contrary I'm quite excited about this, BUT
1. I thought that AGDI said they weren't going to be doing any more sierra remakes because they wanted to focus on originals...
2. There's already the fantastic remake by IA. Why were the two companies working separate on THE SAME remake? What a waste of resources. You guys should stop being so secretive and could have collaborated.
3. Since IA already made KQ3, it would have been nicer to see SQ2 or Goldrush! or another AGI game remade instead.

I have no doubt though based on previous remakes, this is going to be one of the best remakes ever.

Quote1. I thought that AGDI said they weren't going to be doing any more sierra remakes because they wanted to focus on originals...

We said we weren't gonna START any new remakes. However, KQ3 Redux was already in production when we said that. It was basically creative wordplay. :)

When this project was started IA did not even exist yet. There were like 2 or 3 KQ3 remakes started around here before IA announced their KQ3 remake (which was also a secret project in the first 6 months of its life or so), but we made an early decision not to merge teams with others announcing to remake the same game. We already had a good functioning team at AGDI and we had a vision for the game that was kinda set in stone as well. So we didn't think merging teams was gonna do our project a lot of good. Trust me, it's not a waste of resources...the sheer amount of polish this project has received over the years will make it a fun play even for those who already played IA's remake. As for the secretive part...I still stand behind that all the way. Why announce a project prematurely, let fan enthusiasm die down and then put up with "are we there yet?" for years if you can avoid it?

LOL, you ARE aware of the fact IA has almost finished a remake of SQ2, aren't you?  ;D

Erpy

We're aiming the release to take place on February the 23rd...in other words, very soon.
