Hi All,

Regarding the recent battle between VU & kgix,

It seems that VU is in deep water. Check out the following:

http://www.kqix.com/forum/index.php?topic=3003.msg134510#msg134510

I think this should be move in popular thread.

It's good news that VU have granted KQ9 a license to continue their game, but why does that place them in deep water?

GarageGothic

Heh, when splat44 started the thread the news about the license wasn't on the linked page yet (only references to VUs court battles with Valve and other financial issues from 2004). So in the end a pretty much useless post ended up providing us with some great news. Neat.

voh

I'm silently stunned. This is probably one of the last things I'd expected to happen. I'm happy for the guys that their pet project is thawed out, but it does make me wonder what this has put into the developer's heads.

Now that they've got VUG's blessing, why not charge 30 dollars for it?

I just hope they don't get too cocky :)
Still here.

I'm pretty sure that VU have put up very strict limits for what they can and can't do with the license, as they did with Tierra/AGDI. Most likely this is also the reason for the change of title (excluding the actual words "King's Quest").

Yes, The POS just updated the new around noon hour today after that my original post was made. I couldn't known it before.

Yes indeed it is good news

In case you haven't heard yet, Vivendi has agreed to allow King's Quest IX to continue!  They are granting a "fan license" to the makers of the games!  The Save King's Quest IX campaign has been a success!

For more information, you can visit:
http://www.kqix.com
http://www.savekqix.org

I want to thank everyone who participated in the campaign.  It is only because of your support that we were able to save the game.

To those of you who posted things like "this will never work" or "you are wasting your time" in this or other forums around the net, it is with great pleasure that I say this: YOU WERE WRONG.  I don't say that to gloat.  I say it to get your attention, and to make a point.  The point is this: don't underestimate what people can do if they rally together for a cause they believe in.  If you assume from the beginning that you can not change something, and you don't try, then you will definitely not be able to change it.  But if you realize that it IS possible, and you DO try, then you DO have a chance at changing it.  I hope everyone takes that to heart.

Again, thank you to everyone who sent letters and emails to Vivendi, as well as everyone that blogged about the campaign or otherwise helped to spread the word.  Feel free to help spread the word about this wonderful piece of news.

Last but certainly not least, I want to thank Vivendi for listening to the fans and allowing the game to continue.  If you'd like to write them and say thanks, their email address is: games.comments@vugames.com

Ouch... okay I admit I was wrong. But this was totally a surprise! I would have never guessed this kind of thing would have worked. But it did. So congratulations on your victory.

Now, I fearsome thought has crossed my mind.

How would eceryone feel, if we found out that after 1000s of letter to Vivendi, they decided to make KQIX commercial?

I mean would you be happy, that we won?

Or would you rather feel exploited after pwrticipating in an "advertising scheme"?

Just a thought don't kill me...

An older post...

Just a thought don't kill me...

PS. I am happy! I will play KQIX. And I am being supportive of this whole thing, although "I was wrong"... Of course I can't even begin to accept that things are so easy as they seem. There must be something behind this whole thing...

Vel

Heh, for once I dont sign for such a petition and it actually does something.

Anyway, Im very happy to hear these news - Kq9 was maybe the most promising fan project out there... and Im glad it still is.

Ya, that is great news.

According to other forums, only the name changes and POS can still keep characters including graphics.

AGA

Well it's not definite that the petition had any real effect. It's more likely to have been the one-on-one negotiations between the KQIX guys and VUG.

So it's still set in the "King's Quest" universe, then. Interesting! Name change due just to trademark issues I take it?

Read the press release on KQIX.com for the reason for the name change.

I do know that I was told several times, just vaguely, that VU WAS listening to the fans. While VU was in talks with POS, the fans were actually putting pressure on VU to listen to us by our petitions, letters, and emails. :)
