Title: Lapaset 2007
Post by: Haddas on Wed 24/01/2007 20:17:04
Good evening manlies and gentlewomen.

As I'm sure some of you remember, there was a meeting called Lapaset, which was basically the finnish version of Mittens, arranged at my house back in 2006. Well folks, it's time again, and planning is to commence ASAP.

Visy is currently the planned host for this year, but everything is subject to change at this time, and he's currently looking for a place to host the event. He will probably post some suggestions and info about different possible locations. You are however, allowed to post your own suggestions of places of interest. Nothing is impossible.

As a last resort there's my house, but that might take some persuasion. It would be nice to get to travel around a bit more too (for me that is).

I officially declare the Lapaset 2007 discussion OPEN.

PLACE: Tampere
HOST: VISY
DATE: 13-17 of june or 20-24 of june
DURATION: 5 days

ATTENDANTS:
- Visy
- Haddas
- Inkoddi
- Tuomas
- Pablo
- Ishmael
- Azash
- Hedvig

I suggest:

Tampere 1:

My place can fit 3-4 people
Tuomas said can host for 4 people

there's also a few other AGSers living here, post here if you could host people for 5-7 days.

I personally think this is a good idea, and so does Tuomas.

Tampere 2:

Pros:

Big city

Cons:

Very expensive to find lodging / any kind of place for tents

Lahti / Herrala:

Pros:

Herrala is very near a middle-sized city, Lahti (7 minutes by train from Herrala) and is a
small village with a nice lake. I've lived there for 20 years before I moved to Tampere.

Cons:

I'm still negotiating a large house from there for 5 days / week, but the people that own it
are not yet sure if they will be able to rent the place in summer.

This is also a good idea but rather expensive (but big!) Negotiations are underway...

NEW:

Kuhmoinen:

My parents' summer cottage. It has plenty of space for tents, and is somewhat near Kuhmoinen (by car, not very far).

I have to ask about this.

Herrala does sound like a nice place, and it's certainly easier to travel there than to my place. Care to give me some more information about the place?
Title: Re: Lapaset 2007
Post by: visy (the guy who made Lassi Quest) on Wed 24/01/2007 20:32:15
Okay, the place is what we Finns call a "Kesäsiirtola", it's basically a big house that is very suitable for kids' camps and stuff with a kitchen and bedrooms, a large yard with a huge grill, a sauna at lakeshore 50 m from the house.

The price would be 200 OR 100 euros for a DAY. That's kinda expensive, but we would have the whole place for ourselves. It could easily host more than 20 people. I'm still under negotiations for the price, though, and I hope I can lower it down a little. I'm also looking for other places.

The duration I was thinking is 3-7 days. Is 50e / person too much? What do you think?

Post by: Azash on Wed 24/01/2007 21:02:27
I'll pay it if it proves necessary ;) Nice to see the discussion opened.

Haddas: We've talked about getting to Tampere already, why am I nut in the list?
Title: Re: Lapaset 2007
Post by: Tuomas on Wed 24/01/2007 21:27:36
My favourites. Tampere, of course. And Kuhmoinen. that because in both cases I can accomodate up to 4 people within the range of a common map screen in the internet.

Tampere is closer of course, and Kuhmoinen, we have a big house some, 20 km from there where up to 7 people can sleep. but that'd require a car and a spare 30 minutes from a morning.

And to let everyone know right now, june. July is absolutely impossible for me, so if it's not june or late may, then be prepared to find places for 4 people.

I checked the Kuhmoinen option. Yes, my family lives some 35 kilometres away from that place, there's a bus each day from the town to their city, but that's very early, and it's not on weekends.

That or the other bus everyday at 13:29, 15:10 and 17:10.... :/

Herrala sounds really nice, but well yeah, it costs, but I guess it won't be a problem, to me at least, 7 days sounds a bit long though. Ok, I was just bumping this up because it was on page 4 already, and we're 3 months away only.

The thing is, Tampere is here where I am. Herrala is 200km from everyone, Kuhmoinen is 60 km from me.

Seems we have to settle for Tampere.

I've just finished moving to a new flat, and I can fit 1-5 people here easily.

PLACE: Tampere, Finland, visy's & Tuomas's place
DATE: mid June 2007 (I'll have to decide on the date with Haddas, Tuomas & Stickieee)
WHAT: XBOX, NES, Amiga, Lenin museum, swimming, picnics, Särkänniemi (large theme park), adventure gaming fun, summer!

Don't forget beautiful nights at juvinile drinking places, like the riverside and hotel Rosedahl. I'll provide the guitars, mouthorgans, the flute and bongos, so we can have a hippie night out with weed and... no wait, no weed :'(.

There's not much to my place, but at least it stinks and I can make great porridge. ooh, and I've got NES by then. And a hammer. And a great kebab/pizza place just next door. And great bus connections. And cute neighbours (the ones that don't play the piano).

Whoop. I have no idea what my summer will look like. hopefully i don't have anything going on in mid-june. I'll plan any other event around Lapaset. Lapaset is priority!

I find oblidged to inform you all, that ryanair flies from London and ... err, quite a lot of places, and lands just in Tampere, so any, ANYone who is even considering attending, know, that the flight, booked now will be cheap, and the airport isn't far from my place or Visys place either, so a car can be fixed. So please attend you too, I'm bored of speaking Finnish and pretending to speak Swedish.

Okay, dates people:

Me and Tuomas suggest:

13-17 of june (wed-sun) or
20-24 of june (wed-sun)

Which is better?
Title: Re: Lapaset 2007
Post by: Ubel on Sat 17/03/2007 14:41:02
I'd prefer the 13-17 one. Brittens starts 25th, so the second one would get too close to that.
Title: Re: Lapaset 2007
Post by: Inkoddi on Sat 17/03/2007 15:05:17
I'll come there any one of the both dates, as long as I have some means of transportation;  plane or  bus or boat or car or whatever (and not too expensive)

So today my grandma asked me to drive with them to Berlin on the 16th... BUT, nothing is certain, and knowing them, old people, we most likely won't be going anyway. They just plan stuff and then never do it. :D I'd love to go to Berlin, but Lapaset is first always, of course.

Oi, I already sort of have unmovable plans for 14th-20th of June... It's something I'd rather not skip, but so is Lapaset :\

Okay, judging by answers, it seems 20-24 is better.

Thereby, I officially declare that Lapaset 2007 is held 20 to 24 of June in Tampere, Finland.

The motto is: "You can arrive here with the flying public carboat".

All enqueries about travelling to Finland / in Finland / in Tampere / finding my place / Tuomas's place should be directed to:

No seriously dudes. It's time to come up with preferred dates. I'd rather go with 13-17 now, as it seems that some of us have plans for midsummer/juhannus. And as you are staying at my place, I'd really like to know. So please post at least something!

This is Lapaset 2007 from my point of view. (Note that I am not in any pictures, nor are there very many, because I am a lazy photographer)

*Travelled a whole day by car, boat and bus (and public flying carboat)

*Waited for visy and Haddas to pick me up at the bus station

*Imitated yoda very loudly on the street, all three of us

*Got weird looks from strangers

*Pointed out that Kalevan kirkko (a church near visy's place) (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/transformers.jpg) looks like a silo with a transformer on top

*Spotted silly road signs (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/10.jpg)

*Played games on visy's amiga (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/haddamiga.jpg) with an awesome controller (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/awesomecontroller.jpg)

*Slept three people in visy's tiny tiny apartment

*Complained about city maps only showing the part of the city where you aren't. (Haddas points to where we probably were) (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/sillymap.jpg)

*Found Tuomas

*Ate lunch in the university of Tampere

*Went to the amusement park Särkenniemi and up in a very high tower

*Played Metal Slug 6 in an arcade

*Forgot to bring camera that day

*Did not work on the tales of Mr. Oyd

*Watched Pumaman

*Found Petteri (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/threepersons.jpg) (from left to right: visy, Haddas, Petteri)

*Lost visy shortly afterwards

*Went to a pub (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/tuomas.jpg) (Tuomas)

*Said goodbye to Haddas (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/saddas.jpg)

*Invaded music stores

*Sat on a bench by the water (http://nollan-ettan.mine.nu/inkoddi/lapaset2007/peettuomasbench.jpg) and played the guitar

*Said goodbye to Petteri, only me and Tuomas were left now

*Went to an awesome little chinese restaurant and ate some awesome food

*Bought ice cream

*Missed a bus

*Finally got to Tuomas's apartment

*Laughed at the very silly horror movie Freddy vs. Jason

*Slept

*Left early in the morning to Vaasa

End of Lapaset

We also watched those silly television mobile games in that pub we went to.

It was nice to see you guys briefly on Friday. I had actually forgotten all about Lapaset, I thought it hadn't even began until Inkoddi messaged me on Thursday night. I had other stuff that needed to be taken care of earlier that week though, so I couldn't have attended for more days anyways.

Good photos, by the way!

I need to see more of my face. Oh there it is :)

I was afraid to go up to the tower, so instead I waited under it and made a wish for potatoes ;)

EDIT: So my version of the story :)

Tuesday, Inky calls asking what to do because Visy and Haddas are nowhere. I try to reach them through IRC.

I go to bed.

Wednesday: I meet up with the guys at Tampere uni for food.

We leave for Särkänniemi, on the way visit a comic/game store, Visy checks out Vinyls, we check out old britney Spears albums. Then we enter a music store and people play vintage keyboards, visy buys a blow organ thing and Inky plays the thing on that video.

In Särkänniemi, they go up and I stay down watching little children like the creepy paedophile I am. Then we go play arcades at the arcade hall (no shit).

Later we have a pint (playing the blow organ thing, and people staring at us), eat kebab, and go to Visys to see cool controllers and watch them play games, I didn't :)

I leave home too late and miss the bus, so I take the other and walk 2 km.

Thursday I hear, that Haddas drunk all his money, and we can't go to Lenin museum. So I grab my bike and ride to visy's with my guitar and my flute and my mouthorgan, leaving the pongos home. We jam about.

I go to an unrelated meeting with some political friends, end up having a few beers and listening to karaoke.

Late at night we watch Pumaman, and I ride back home at 3:00.

Friday, Inky calls me saying I have to come meet Petteri, so I do.

I watch people eat kebab again, and visy leave. Then Haddas buys his tickets and we go have a pint, watching SMS games on telly and talking shit, which was nice :)

After Haddas leaves, we invade a new musicstore and jam about with an off tune banjo and a hello kitty acoustic guitar, which was pretty good actually.-

Later we take a look at what some bookstore has to offer us. After that we jam about at the riverside, in the sunshine. then Petteri leaves us just the 2, me and Inky.

We eat best chinese in town, some ice cream, get mad a t a bus driver, and eventually wander through woods to my flat.

There we watch the crappy movie he mentioned and some Bill Bailey, and Inkoddi gives me a lot of Swedish folk, which fills my hard drive :)

Saturday: The bastard wakes me up during an incest sex scene in my dreams making me forget the important parts of it. :D

So I go with him to the bus stop and once he's gone, walk back, and sleep till 3pm.

Also, in the chinese restaurant, they had misplaced their koto music CD and was playing some looping instrumental medley of old hits, with infinite cowbell. NEEDS MOAR COWBELL!
