Lapaset (AGS MEETING)

Haddas

Lapaset. which is the finnish word for Mittens, which also happens to be a meeting that shall be held in Finland (Lapaset that is). It will be held at my house which is big and can house many peoples. Now all I need to know is who might show up, and what time would be suitable, to avoid clashing with Brittens and the oh so official Mittens. I've started this thread this early because these things take planning, and better safe than sorry, right?

One prequisite is that the meeting takes place between June and August. The dates haven't been set, so let's hear proposals.

LIST BE HERE:

People hosting:
1. ME
People coming:
1. Pablo
2. Ishmael
3. JetXL
4. Visy
5. Petteri
6. Tuomas
7. Stickieee

Maybe coming of people to show up???

1. Custard
2. GarageGothic
3. Inkoddi ¬¬
4. Andail
5. Minimi
6. Creed Malay
7. Iqu

Ubel

I will most surely come. Well... of course it depends of the money situation at the time. But I'm quite sure I'll be there.

Tuomas

Count me in :) we'll have fun, the three of us

Pet Terry

I prefer June.

See you there.
<SSH> heavy pettering

Andail

I've never been to Finland, so that would be a good opportunity.

"lapaset", haha, you and your crazy language.

hahaha.

Ishmael

Pablo, I will take you there with a kottikärry if neccesary :)

But I have no idea when would suit me best. I have a feeling I might have something for the change of June and July, but that's not at all sure.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

GarageGothic

So much is changing in my life right now, that I don't even know where I will be next summer. But if I can make it, I certainly will participate. So would this be in Helsinki? Always wanted to go there - and I even have enough frequent flyer miles to take me.

Ishmael

The AGSer World Map might help... well, not too much, since Finland doesn't have the map part, but you get the idea.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Vel

I might just show up, if it is somewhere in July-August. No promises though.

jetxl

Man, I would really like to go to Finland. Land of pinetrees, pinetreees and lasers. But I don't know if my uni life can handle that.
Count me in as a maybe.

Guess I have to skip Brittens.

Haddas

It won't be in Helsinki, but you will probably be landing there, as it is 1-1½ hour by highway from there and you can get to about 4km from our house by bus. Transportation won't be that big a problem. It's in the countryside, in a fennoscandic village. We'll be. Now that the number of participants grow we will have to plan how to move larger groups of people from the house to town, and stuff. But there's nothing that I can't handle! it would be awesome if all the other finnish agsers who are old enough to get a drivers license would do so and get an automobile of some sorts... Otherwise mass transit might have to be used, and we wouldn't want that, would we? ¬¬

Ubel

Ishmael can transport us with that kottikärry of his.

Ishmael

Actually, I checked, and couldn't find it anywhere... :(
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Kinoko

Finland, Finland, Finland.

The country where I want to be.

Noone else had said it yet.

Haddas

Now we even have a themesong for the power point presentation with slides and stuff that won't be made.

bspeers

Do Finlanders generally know that you have one of the most highly skilled, artistic and creative juggling groups in the world in your country?

http://www.peapot.net/

http://www.531festival.com/

I know juggling is slightly bigger in Europe than it is in North America (it is actually possible for non-street-performer jugglers and non-cruise-ship acts to make a living), but it's still a fair subculture.  Had you any idea?
I also really liked my old signature.

Tuomas

I have a drivers licence an most likely a car too. And I can bring a wheelbarrow, sorry, kottikärryt for Ishmael, so this means transprotation for at least 10 persons, 4 +me in my car and 4 to the kärryt...

Haddas

bspeers: No, i did not know that.

Tuomas: That would be awesome. I also have a car for 4+me, and in the worst case scenario my parents cars could provide transportation... Down with mass transit!

Tuomas

Perhaps we could rent bicycles and have a nice arranged tour de countryside while we're at it

Ubel

But... that would include physical work...

Tuomas

true... that can't be allowed to happen... bad idea, let's kill it and bury it deep. What we really need is a kettle! If we had a kettle we would have no problems.

Haddas

Rent Bicycles? It's in the countryside. There's no place for bicycle rentage here. There are two towns though. We will probably visit both and see the sights. I'm thinking the meet is for a week? Does that sound good? Also, As we will be living in a house, and our primary source of food will be my mother, she wants cash, the greedy bastard. Staying here will be completely free, but she wants 5e for making breakfast. I'll see how much I can squeese out of here concerning other foods, but we will most likely be eating somewhere else and possibly bring own foods. We also have a grill :D

Lovisa, 15km from our home: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=loviisa+finland&spn=0.003618,0.010009=k&hl=en
http://www.archipelago.nu/SKARGARD/SVENSKA/FINSKVIK/LOVISA.GIF
http://koti.mbnet.fi/ovali/kuvat4/album/slides/Loviisa.jpg

Porvoo, 35km from our home, and also a bigger city: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=porvoo+finland&spn=0.029007,0.080071=k&hl=en
http://www.nikkemedia.fi/oh-ayo/kuvia/AYO-Kaitsu-porvoo-2003-12-20/Pict0887.jpg

Both are old towns with good sightseeing possibilities and shopping stuffs. Lovisa is a small town of about 7000-8000 inhabitants and Porvoo with around 43 000 inhabitants.

Ishmael

All fine, as long as we have time to do some crazy pretending-to-be-AGS-realted stuff, like burn a bonfire and drink blood (or lemonade) from blue cups around it...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

<Calin> Ishmael looks awesome all the time
\( Ö)/ ¬(Ö ) | Ja minähän en keskellä kirkasta päivää lähden minnekään juoksentelemaan ilman housuja.

Haddas

If it'll be a week we'll have plenty of time. Plus mornings and evenings and nights.

Tuomas

Think of it through your mothers eyes: A bunch of geeks and freaks come to your house led there by signs that say Lapaset. Then all there freaks will stay for a week, using your utensils and utilities leaving odd looking piles of dirt in the corners. After a painful week she finds herself sweating and tired feeling as if she'd been exploited by aliens, and your dog cries in the yard with all it's hair shaved off and glued to the the door... Then she stumbles on empty bottles, loafs of bread and lumbs of meat and some odd metallic objects that some foreigner brought. Then her son comes and says, Yuo could have been a bit more kind to my guests...

And this is not all...

MrColossal

But she does say "But please do have that Berian back again... Such a nice boy... WINK!"
"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

AGA

I resent the implication that I have sex with old women.

It's sheep only for me, you bastard.

I could possibly show up, if I am in the area at the time.

I am proposing a week of stay, from the 9-16 June. Which would be Friday to Friday. June would probably be most suitable for all, especially for me. But as said before, That's something you can discuss. I would like MORE discussion about the event, and LESS talk about MILFS and GAY BEASTIALITY. But by all means, do carry on.

Ubel

Suits me, I don't think I will have any other plans for the next summer anyway so I guess any date will be okay for me.

jetxl

June is a Exam Month... So Haddas, I have to use YOUR phone to make some fake bomb threats to my university.

Also. Dates? Tell me when what suits you. We have some suggestions, but that's not enough for deciding yet. I understand this might be a bit early, but I just wanted to make sure that I take the time for preparations.

Vel

July-August suits me best. School finishes at the end of June.

Pet Terry

Tomorrow? Okay, fine with me.

Seriously though, I'll vote for July, because some people might not be able to make it in June. And we still should be able to witness nightless night in July.

Also, Haddas, you forgot Inkoddi from your list. I mean, he is coming, right??

I'd like to put my name donw for this for two reasons.

1. I want to see how big finland's pizzas are compared with the english.
2. I have a coupon for a free meat-based burger that I'll never use, that you gave me during Brittens 2005.
3. I want to travel and see the world, and not get laid in as many countries as possible.
4. I want to try the North State ciggies you mentioned (or something like that).
5. I have nothing better to do with my time and money than get drunk in my home town.

I wouldn't like to put my name down because of 6 reasons.
1. Vel is probly spinning in his grave right now, for my inexcusable lack of giving him the files he needs for completely the latest ezine.
2. Vel, unfortunately, isn't deade and therefore I'm still not off the hook. (100 more years and i'm in the clear..).

I totally need help because of an infinite number of reasons.
1, 8, 43, 666, 2007 and more. I can't count to save my life.

I'm totally planning a lapaset meeting, tho. It'd be neato to see you and your lasers again.  *wink* *nudge* etc.

(Vel, you'll get the files as soon as we're both on #ags together.  Using your or my ftp account didn't work so well since I winged your password, and can't actually remember mine.  What with work and band recently, I just haven't had time to fix the situation, apologises. It's not my plan to make you look bad.  I'm sure you know that.  What with being bulgarian, you generate enough bad press by just existing for me to want to stick the boot in).

(Vel, I know you suck at humor among other things. Most of that last paragraph was for comedic purposes only, I love and respect you really).

(Everyone but Vel, Vel has no genetalia. Laugh amongst yourselves).

Anyway, despite my lack of activeness on these forums, I'm more than keen about coming there. And considering that I live in Finland, I might actually come! I really can't say anything about the date, but considering our international guests, July seems like a good option.

So I was think that I have to book a flight one of these days and the following points popped up.

*It will start on July 1st, but when does it end? From the 1st to the 5th or the 7th?

*Can I sleep inside, since I can't bring a tent?

*Helsinki is the only international airport in Finland (?)

*I will be almost broke when I arrive. Can I live on 100 euros for a week? I'm talking about transportation costs,
protection money that your familia demands, money for food, money for drugs, money for souvenirs, ect. In other words...

*Will we be roaming about a lot and...

*Is Finland an expensive country?

*What is the drug policy in Finland anyway. Just wondering, really.

Pet Terry

Quote
*Helsinki is the only international airport in Finland (?)

*What is the drug policy in Finland anyway. Just wondering, really.

There's also the airport of Tampere, however, that's further away from Haddas' house and you would probably have to get a bus or train, whereas if you fly to Helsinki you might get a lift from Haddas himself.

As for the drug policy, drug-drugs are illegal. 18 and up are able to buy alcohol and cigarettes and get into pubs, though you must be 20 or more to be able to buy stronger stuff in liquor store.

I guess I should update my status as well. I'm still planning to come, but I might have work around that time (I'm not sure yet! That's what I get for being a substitute worker). I should be able to get the week off though, and failing that at least a couple of days from the beginning of the week. So I'm definately at least turning up. I possibly won't be able to come by a car because I don't own one, so I'll probably catch a bus down there and meet up with Ishmael on the way.

Do you have any plans what we might be doing during the stay, Haddas? By that I mean trips to somewhere else than the nearby lake or your front yard. :P
<SSH> heavy pettering
Screen 7

visy (the guy who made Lassi Quest)

If people happen to land at Tampere, I (and probably others) will gladly accompany people to Haddas's place. I live in Tampere, and I recall somebody else does too.

July 1st should be okay for me. I'm not all that sure if I can afford to come, but we'll see.
Still working on 8-bit stuff, mostly NES and Atari 2600:
http://oldskool.wamma.fi

Tuomas

I recall some talk about me giving a lift, as tmost the planes would arrive in Tampere where I live too. yet, there's something.

Considering my position, I might get a job for summer. Now if I do, I will be able to attend, but most likely only on weekend. AND... if I don't, which is more likely, well then I'll have to survive the whole summer with 40e... Also there's the possibility that I'm working in Spain at that time, but that's unlikely. There... sheesh, this looks bad on me :(

Should I win in the lottery or get graduation money, I would be able to give some people a lift with "a car", but that I cannot guarantee...

Haddas

Sorry, haven't noticed people posting in this thread. As for plans, I though we might visit Loviisa, and Porvoo, two old (close) towns, and shop around, depending on how wealthy you are. (Porvoo is the second oldest city in finland)

http://www.datapartner.fi/webcam/dcs-900.jpg (webcam of bus-station in porvoo. I was there just 2 hours ago. press f5 once in a while)

The meeting officially starts on the 1st and ends on the 7th, but i don't mind having people around for longer. You are all, obviously, free to leave when you wish. You can sleep inside. Infact we will try to position as many people inside as possible, since we have a spring on the side of the yard facing the forest, and as such the lawn can at times be a little moist (swamp).

I hope transportation issues work out, since forcing my father to drive for 6 hours (to and from airport) is not something he will gladly do.

Activity suggestions are welcome. We could go to Linnanmäki, but that would be quite expensive.

As far as food goes, you could bring your own, or buy food here. I could force my mother to buy, cook and serve food, but I doubt she'd do that for free. All house facilities are of course, free of charge (Sauna, Kitchen, Shower, etc...)

Obi

What about the holodeck is that free also?

I just checked the prices of Linnanmäki. There doesn't seem to be entry fee as far as I know. The wristband ticket thing, that allows free entry to every attraction, costs 28â,¬ and a single attraction ticket is 5â,¬. The biggest problem would probably be transportation if we've only one car, bus might get quite expensive.

Water park Serena could be another place to visit especially on sunny weather. The whole day pass is 19â,¬, and an evening pass, which works between 16:00 - 20:00, is 15â,¬. Again, the same transportation problem applies here.

Those are the only places that come to my mind right now, I don't really know what else worth visiting there is around that area. :P

The transportation will be an issue, but I have good family ties, so things should work out. Depending on how many show up there might be group discounts and stuff.

I assume attendees get to buy custom made t-shirts, then? Also, does the colour of shirt matter? My local print shop can only print on white tees.

Also, if it rains, Nintendo? We could do time attacks!

If you bring the nintendo! Ours is broken :(

I'm planning on having Lapaset shirts availible, yes.

Once you get to Helsinki centrum, you can just get a tram to Kallio (where my brother and many friends live - a regular students/drunkards area, where Tarja Halonen grew up by the way) and go to Linnanmäki. No trouble there. The entrance is free indeed.

You can get a direct bus from Helsinki to Serena, number 339, but it's a U-line bus so it costs quite a lot unless you have a regular time-based bus keycard. Otherwise, you could get a bus or a train from Helsinki to Leppävaara, Espoo (where my school is at) and take another bus, number 24, straight to Serena. 339 would probably cost around 8-10 euros one way. The Helsinki-Leppävaara-Serena route would cost you about 3,5 euros. Also, you may consider sharing a taxi, which costs about 25-30 euros from Helsinki to Serena. I live some 10-15 minutes away from the place and a taxi from Helsinki to my house costs 22 euros.

Other attractions include Hietsu, a large beach area right next to Helsinki centrum, Esplanadi park/Senaatintori/Kauppatori areas, Kiasma, which is hosting ARS06 until the end of August, Pikkukoski swimming area in Oulunkylä, the Olympic Stadium pools (where you gotta wear speedos), Kumpula pools (same thing).

The last two you can break into at night to swim if you protest speedos (like me). There's a security guard patrol each night at a unpatterned time, so be aware. Usually you can hear them coming and you can make a run for it. Anyways, there's no real risk, because they probably won't call the police and they can't really legally detain you. Plus, the chances of actually getting caught are slim to none. This is if you want some adventure in your life :D.

As far as the nightlife goes, I would just suggest picking up a free Nöjesguiden or City magazine and checking the clubs for the evening. You can pretty much find anything, from goth to reggae and indie clubs, in Helsinki. Also, there's always some famous band playing somewhere in the centrum, so you can keep an eye out for that as well.

As for traveling within the bounds of Helsinki centrum, you can always walk or use trams. Trams require the same payment as busses, but they aren't as strictly regulated, so you can bum rides really easily. I'd say around 50% of people who use trams do it illegally. I, for one, have never gotten caught and have only been asked once to show my pass. I don't really ride the trams a lot though. You can also get trains, busses and the subway to areas around and outside Helsinki. The farthest the local trains go is Riihimäki.

And if any of you guys are interested in Second Hand shopping there's like 7-8 UFF shops around Helsinki centrum. I think at least Tuomas will have a ball treasure-hunting for them and in them. Shopping otherwise is the same as in any other larger city.

Azash

Myah. I'll probably be showing up there, too, and hopefully I'll have my license by then. Haddas, when will you get yours?

PS. Some of you know me as John (I don't sound like Haddas!)

PPS. The point was that I could probably provide some transport in that case.

Sorry guys, I won't be coming to Finland this time... I've gotten a job in Taipei between those two months.  :=

Concerning the nintendo bit,

I can bring my XBOX which has every emulator known to man and gazillion roms for it.
That should be somewhat a suitable replacement.

I think.

I just HAVE to come here, missing this would be disastrous. I mean, how long has this been planned, like 10 years or so? 1st of July is a great day to start the gathering but how long will it last? A week? A month? And is anyone with a half-empty car going from Tampere? And HOORAY for the XBOX!

I want to bring my super nintendo, but the airport X-ray might think it's a bomb.
Does the xbox have super Bust-a-Move and super Double Dragon?

Aww, this makes me sad. I was looking forward to meeting you. And buying your game. Well, I guess I'll just have to order it from you separately. Or wait till you make it freeware.

I'd like to give my 'yay' to XBOX and emulators too: Yay!

visy (the guy who made Lassi Quest)

Yes, is does have those games.

Actually, I have complete (full) romsets on my XBOX for:

C-64
Vic-20
MSX
NES (almost complete, missing A to C, i think)
SNES
Mame (multiple arcade games + Neo-Geo + CPS1&2 etc.)
Genesis/Megadrive

+

some games for PS1 and native XBOX-games + Sega Master System games + GBA/GBC/GB + Amiga

and yes, I do like emulator-games.

I know it's a bit short notice, but I never promised anything. So, about the Tampere-car... I just agreed on phone that I'll be flying to Spain to Mallorca to work for the next ~6 months... soo, as much as I would have wanted, and have saved money for it, I can't possibly attend this time.

But if we have luck, we can have it next summer at my parents place, I'll send them away and we'll be there in the middle of nowhere, and if you don't know where that is, find Jämsä on the map.

Sorry :( :'(

raimo

to Mallorca?! you bastard! :)

but oh yeah when the summer's over in finland i'll move my ass to Milan so that's ok  :=

The word has it that we'll be needing tents. So it's time for the official Lapaset tent roll call!

So here's the list so far, I'll keep it updated when I get more info.

My tent, 2 - 3 people:
- Me
- Inkoddi
- ?

Stickieee's tent, 2 people:
- Stickieee
- ?

Pablo's tent, 1 - 2 people:
- Pablo
- ?

That's 7 people out of 9 (Haddas doesn't count, because he sleeps in a warm and comfy bed in the house).

I guess, in worst case scenario, some people can sleep in cars. :P

About sleeping. If you bring a sleeping bag and a pillow or something to that extent then there are other options. I could even disassemble my bed, effectively making it into 4 normal sized beds. And then there's 3 couches. Two of which are the kind that can be made into a double-bed. Don't worry people. There will be sleep.

D-DAY

This morning I woke up refreshed. I had been sleeping. Soon I realized it was saturday. The saturday on which Lapset was to be held on.. of. After sending a status check message to all the attendees I prepared to head to the airport to pick up jet, who was going to land on the airport, as he was travelling by plane to the airport. When he landed 30 minutes later we picked him up and headed for the Town of Porvoo, where we shopped for various goods and supplies. Mainly crisps, chocolate and lemonade. The basics for survival in the harsh conditions of rural Finland. While we were gone the rest of the attendees, except for Inkoddi and Tuomas, arived. They settled in quite nicely and took over the yard for their own personal, and selfish, tenting needs and left me without my beloved football field. I miss that field.

We drank and ate and talked about AGS and internet fads in general. It was fun. We then proceeded indoors to cram into my rooms and play nintendo on the xbox. Then we went outside, AGAIN. We sat and talked and decided it would be a great idea to get naked. After some hot steamy action we got dressed and went outside for some sitting around and talking.

I decided to log on to my home and write the first entry to what is essentially a bluecup livejournal. Now I am writing this text as we speak. With Pablo sitting next to me, uninmpressed. Infact he looks like he's going to kill me. Now I must go outside and wait for Inkoddi and Tuomas. I suspect they might have been stopped to solve a murder mystery, although none of the others seem to agree with me.

Good night and stay tuned for more fanfic tomorrow.

m0ds

I was just about to grill you because it never seemed like this event was going to happen, but I'm glad it's underway and people have turned up alive!! :) Have fun guys!

Haddas

Ha! And you doubted my powers!

Tuomas

I managed to escape! Thank God, You can't imagine all the things those people were doing to me. In the night they would.... nngh, no, I can't say it, it's too hidious. And they wouldn't let me go, I had to kick and bite my way through. It was awful, I walked all the way home 500 km, hungry and bleeding. They even took my stuff and either burned them or stole them!!!

Can't wait for the next round ;)

Haddas

So everyone get home okay?
