Title: Look at what I bought today...
Post by: frenzykitty on Fri 03/05/2013 20:23:54
Haven't played this since it came out! Excited! Call me old fashioned, but I LOVE a physical copy of a game.

I have one of those somewhere, deep in the darkest depths (under my bed in a box). Curse of MI is probably there as well. Maybe I'll get them out one day...

I still have my fullsized cardboard boxed copy, because I'm old skool.

I bought this exact version in a charity shop a few years ago.  Unfortunately I let someone borrow it and never got it back.  Still, my best ever purchase was the DOTT/Sam and Max double box I got for 50p in a second hand shop (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=29782).

Hell yeah, got one as well...only it was a new game when my dad bought it for me while he was in London. The inside of the cd case, with the map, is brilliant.

Very awesome game, this, but I'd like an original DOTT box even more. Is it true it's octagonal?

I have the jewel case, one of the last things I ever bought off the LucasArts website some years ago.

Apparently there are some issues with getting the game to run properly, but I never really had any problems..

I have the jewel case too.

Took me a week to get the game running on Win7.

I too lent my box to someone a few years ago... Meh. Still have my boxed maniac mansion and loom (among many others) in a box in the garage. :-)

Finally the past 4 years of trawling the 2nd hand shops  hoping to find another cheap copy of Grim Fandango have paid off. Almost didn't see it. £1.50 Thank you very much. Now to get it working.

Doesn't quite compare to yours, but: http://www.agagames.com/advlist.php (formatting is broken, as I haven't update it in years).  Quite a few of them are copies, as you will see.  I gave up trying to find original boxed versions of some of them, since I wasn't willing to pay millions of pounds for them!

Stop doing that Gribbler  ;)

@AGA: Still a nice list though!
I mainly collect real oldies (vintage), as in games released from 1994 and older.
Love the pc-booter ones too, played them all (from my list) back in the old days :)

I collect only vintage adventure games. Got about 70 of them, but every single one is an original big box release (no Kixx, white label etc.)

I can still remember the first game I ever got (my dad bought it for me on my birthday) was Maniac Mansion :)

Mine was Loom and Monkey Island wrapped and sold together, given to me and my brothers at Christmas. At first I had called it Monkey Is-land.

I still feel Monkey Island is the best game I've ever played, or at least the most memorable.

Makes three.
Although for me MI (1&2 only) definitely shares the first place with DOTT.

First place is definitely shared by MI1, MI2, The Last Crusade, Fate of Atlantis and Loom :D

(if we're talking pre-1995, otherwise first place goes to Grim Fandango.)

Yeah, it's the edition with this beautiful Book of Patterns and intro cassette (still in shrinkwrap!).

I'm currently looking for Universe by Core, full version with postcards. Seen it anywhere?
