I have not encountered any First person adventure games on the AGS website. Are there not, or am I just blind. I haven't played any FPA games except for Zork: The grand Inquisitor (great game, play it)
could you inform me of FPA games made in AGS...Please?

as far as i remember Chrille i think was working on one many years ago but i think it's all but dead

i am also surprised there aren't more first person adventures mostly cause it's less work and people don't like to animate, hehe

I frequently use first person in my games. I very much dislike having to use the scale character option. As for full games in first person, I havent seen any either. You would think that noobies would do something like that. I find it cool when there is a split game. Like having conversations in first and such. Thats why I like to crane machine games in my games. I am still working on the code of the crane game but it consists in first person where there is a joystick or moving buttons. You move the arm around and after about 10 seconds the arm drops and if it is in a hotspot it will pick up a bear or whatever.

Squinky

Bah, there was one game I played about six months ago about escaping from an alien jail that was first person...can't remember what it was called though...

Minimi

I'm still busy with the production of an FPA-game... It's called "Undeniable", and I haven't worked on it for about a month. Though I'm planning on releasing a demo of it, before 2004, so i gotta get working on it some more. If you want info about the game :

I think the main reason there aren't many FPP adventures is that most AGSers are from the older generation of adventure games, which were almost exclusively 3rd person.  There are many (MANY) pre-rendered 3d FPP adventures that have been released in the past several years.  In fact, due to publishers like The Adventure Company, I'd say many, if maybe not most, recent adventures have been first person.

Yeah, squinky's right. There was a game that came out sometime in the summer that was a first person game. I can't remember too much more than that. It's an interesting concept to play with, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of it, as people try to become as original as they can be.

I think that there is a lack of FPA AGS games because with FPA games, you tend to lose the character of the the person you are playing. It seems as though you are just solving a series of puzzles to get to places and stuff. I don't know - they would probably seem easier to make, although, without good planning and detail, i think that they would probaly be a bit boring.

Thats just my thoughts...

There was a game called Dark Sector Chapter 1 or something like that, too bad we don't hear anything about it recently.

I'd really really like to play a FPA, BUT only if it was real-time a la every first-person shooter out there. I can't stand they Myst style "this is what you see, you can't turn your head, and when you move forward, you close your eyes while you're walking so that your life becomes a series of still pictures."

Bring on the FPS/adventure game fusions.

Well, AGS probably would really not be a good choice of engine for that sort of game

I am going to make a first person FPS engine adventure before too long, but first person ags adventures are a good idea.. probably the reason there aren't many is that people don't even think of that as an option when starting an ags game.

Helm

Gore have you seen Myst3d? Same game, Unreal engine. Pretty spiffy as in what you describe. Quite a bit more atmospheric than Myst, for obvious reasons.

In fact, there are many first person adventures these days which do not use the node-based (crap) system.  The reason the node-based approach is traditionally more common is that to be able to move around a world from the first person, you pretty much need real-time 3D architecture, and we're only recently getting to the point where real-time 3D adventures are common at all.  It's an interesting concept and, as Helm said, realMyst is a good example of it.  Well, as long as you like Myst-style games.

I personally like FPA games like Zork: The grand inquisitor.
Does RealMyst have 3D objects, or is it just 360 degrees of rotation??6? ???

remixor

realMyst is an entirely real-time 3D game.
