Title: Looking for voice actors
Post by: Rui 'Trovatore' Pires on Wed 17/03/2004 20:53:11
I've been here before, and I was looking for an artist. I found one, though not here.

I've been here after that, looking for musicians. I found three, two of whom satisfied me completely, assuring me that I'll have at least one very competent person handling the music.

WHat I'm looking for NOW, for my remake of Anchorhead, is voice actors. The main character is female, and the artist can expect a LOT of text, even for regular interactions. But I need any number of people I can get, as there are several characters in the game. I will be very demanding in terms of quality. Anyone who is interested should reply to this thread (as opposed to PMing me directly, which would let the thread be dragged down into oblivion quite soon), and rest assured that I will PM him/her.

As you can guess from my previous threads, very little of the game is actually done, most of it's concept, and yet I'm already asking for musicians, voice actors... why is this, you ask? So everyone can work together, as opposed to a "do-this-then-stick-the-music-on-top-and-cross-your-fingers" approach. Everyone should influence everyone.

And if anyone out there wants to participate, but thinks I'm being too ambitious for my project to work - let me point out that I've worked on my remake of Larry 2 for as long as it took to make it perfect. My only mistake was, simply, not enough beta-testing, and therefore having released it before it was perfect, but I'm still working on it. As a matter of fact, at the time of writing, I'm re-writing the boat's map screen in order to make it navigatable. I see thhings through. Especially if there are more people involved. Of course, my word is all you have for that, but hey, that's true of every thread around here! ;)

I can do a coherent British accent, otherwise known as BBC British. I can do a range of other accents, but they're pretty crap. You'll probably find other people who HAVE the accents you need these days!

However, if you've got any shouting or insane parts, please let me know. I love shouting.

^-^

I've got a nice BBC British accent aswell..

I'm currently voicing By The Sword: Conspiracy, as the narrator. (copious amounts of lines, I can assure you)

If you would like my assistance, PM me or email me: andrew_edmark@hotmail.com

Either a list of accents/voice styles or lines would be neat to have.. I'm no good at improving voices or talents unless I know exactly what is needed.

ta,
Andrew

Well I'm not British but I am good in acting the lines (and not just reading them)
PM me, I would love to get involved

I'm crazy enough to do voice-acting.  ;D

I'm not particulary good with accents, but I believe that I have some talking skills and can find good intonation and rythm in a line. I have not done any acting for a game yet, but I am in the cast for one (which also happens to be the game I'm looking forward to the most at the moment).

Azure's take of the main character was very interesting. If there are any more female voice actresses out there interested, you should hurry up, or she'll get the lead!

But either way, I'll still need about three or four more female characters, so... ::)

ANyway, I'm glad to see so many people interested. But we still need more!

One extra note - if you do this cast, please don't skim though the text and try to sound good "just because". Sure, this is just a casting, and sure, I'd like you to be creative - I tell that to everyone I PM - but I'd like you to take your time, flesh out the characters a bit, and send the files (or upload them) only when you're sure. I mean, I can usually tell right away whether or not so-and-so are good enough to do this-or-that, but it'd help me a lot if you take the time to... well, to act.
I wrote this note because one of the samples I heard (a very good one, might I add) suffered a lot because of this flaw. I wouldn't like to see this happening again.

I'm interested. As English isn't my primary language, I'm not incredibly good with different accents, but I consider my British accent good enough, with perhaps only few hints of Swedish. :P However, I can act.

Also, I have an expensive microphone.

Argh - it's very hard to keep track, especially considering that only three people this far have sent me samples, so I'll ask -

Is there ANYONE who has replied to this thread I haven't PMd?

EDIT - Incidentally, I REALLY need to hear from most people. So far, only one position is taken, although there's another (still needs to be made certain of, though) that seems quite promising, but as new people appear, I have to know what I'm going to tell them. I have to know who've I got. Take your time, by all means, but not too far, heh?

I'm getting a bit worried. I've got three samples so far, one male, one female, and one that I may or may not actually use. I've PMd everyone who still hadn't sent anything, told them to please hurry up, as I've got to "clean the house", so to speak. Only three people answered (well, actualy m0ds answered too, but that was because I caught him on the MSN), and it was to tell me they were so sorry but they couldn't be on the game after all.

So, I'm getting quite worried indeed. I urge new voices to appear, and the old voices to tell me anything (except of course those that have actually kept me informed). I'm going to break a promise I made myself, and reveal the script for the game's intro, which has so far been made available only to interested voice actors.

It's an incentive - I need people. And GOOD people. Alhough I'd rather that YOU'd let me be the judge of your quality. And if you need any more incentive, I've got some dialogue written up already, just ask for it.

PM me with some dialogue, and I'll send in a sample. As for how good I am, I'll let you be the judge.  :)

I happened to stumble across your post and figured I'd reply - I don't know if you are still looking or not, since your last post was on the 27th.  I would like to try out for a voice part in your project, if you wouldn't mind sending me some material to review.  Normally I do 'monster' type voice-over, but I am willing to try whatever it takes.  If you provide me with some material I will get you a sample to hear.

How graceful can an ascent down be?

and ahem...well that's all I had to add to this thread.
I'm so destructive.

Ok, at the moment I estimate I've got 1 female person and two male people as voice actors. And there's still some people who haven't sent me anything yet. So yes, I can consider the thread to still be open. I'll PM JDove, and I'm letting everyone know that the thread is still open.

Oh, BTW, I'll make an appeal of sorts now - PLEASE, do NOT take too long sending me your stuff. Like, a month. I've tried to reach some of the people who took a long time, and some of them told me they were sorry, they couldn't really go ahead after all; and one other person hasn't replied yet at all. Please, if you reply to the thread, make sure you know what you're doing.

I dunno if you have a place for a 16-year-old male, who sucks at doing accents, but I'd be willing to play someone if you need me too.

Umm....Hi.   I hope it's okay if I replied to this.  I'm not all that old...15 really, and I would like to try to do this.  Of course, only if it's not too much of a problem to deal with a fresh beginner.  I really wouldn't like to be a burden to you.  I really don't know what type of characters I can do but I guess, I'll let you be the judge.  And um...If you can't tell, I'm a girl.  Thanks for listening. ^^

Hmm, I would really love to try for a role in this game. I'm female, 15, with a rather american english, living in israel. If you need a voice that isn't
You can judge the acting yourself (I've never acted before), but I don't think I'll suit the main role very well, as she is much older and I'm not an experienced actor, so one of the smaller female roles would be best.

Now, the only trouble is, I have mike trouble (heh, no pun intended). Apparantly, my pc has nowhere to plug in a microphone, cause I used to plug it into my old monitor (weird, huh?). Then we replaced the monitor, and I can't get the microphone to work, cause there is no logical place to put it. Still, I'd be glad if you PMed me nevertheless, and in the meantime I'm looking for a solution to this problem. :)

The script is amazing btw! Very cinematic feel to it, I can tell you design these cutscenes very visually (in your mind at least) and with lots of atmoshpere. The dialogs were superb and immedeately had me speaking out the lines! :D

P.s. You can try looking in the Offer your services thread to see if anyone is available for voice acting.
