Im thinking about making a game in AGS for my major software design and development project... If i make this game, would it be classified as me programming the game? will i be credited for the game? Or will I fail the assessment...

Since people make games in Visual Basic, and they classify that as their own game... im thinking its the same with AGS... but i want to get this clarified

Well, really we don't know the assessment criteria for your course.
These things can differ in minor changes of course, let alone the fact it changes from school to school, from state to state and country to country.

From the information you've given us, we can only give vague feelings as to what would be considered your programming. You'd best ask your teacher.

but to give one of the aforesaid vague feelings, I doubt it.

Could i say, that xx is my game, and i programmed it in AGS?

We know what you mean, but recommend you ask your teacher as to whether or not they consider you making a game with AGS, as programming ;)

Software design and development project?  I'd hafta agree with Las and check your course instructor or the project guidelines.

I'd definately consider an AGS game *your* game but wouldn't go so far as to say that it'd qualify as software design or development.  No more so than webpage creation or an excellent Flash application really.  If the teacher/guidelines say you can then it's definately one of the better projects you could do (as far as enjoyment goes).

If they've been teaching you a programming language then they probably expect to make your game with that, but, if they haven't - then you'll probably find whatever you use will be okay.

Don't quote me on that, or this, but teachers seem to like it when games are made.

You might want to ask Yufster, as she made a game using AGS for a school project - I can't remember what her teachers said but they seemed to really like it. I remember making a QBasic piece of crap and I got an A* for it.

Maybe not as far as school/college goes - but I think it qualifies as that too most people who enjoy doing it. I can't explain right now.

The problem, demetri, is that it's possible to make a game with AGS without doing any programming at all.  On the other hand, AGS has a very powerful scripting language, a subset of C, makes it possible to do all kinds of sophisticated programming.

I think AGS would be a good choice for your project provided that you understand your course's rquirements and that you do enough programming to meet those requirements.

If you need examples of the kind of programming you can do with AGS you can search the Tech and Tech Archiv forums or follow the link in my sig below to the BlueGui open source AGS GUI.

Good luck with your project...
