making one game altogether

hi,

I'm wondering if it would be cool to make a excellent adventure game with all the guys from this forum.
I Guess you're all found of video games and adventure game makers, so why doing THE adventure game were's all wating for ?
I mean, I do one room, and then pass the game to another game maker, for example, he does the second room, etc... everytime, the room is in connexion with the previews one.

AGA

I'm afraid it's been tried before and failed. There have been quite a few large team projects over the years that have failed... Your idea of 'one man, one room' has also been tried, with Demo Quest II, which never got very far...

P.S.: Wrong forum, moving to Adventure Talk and Chit Chat.

Evil

What about everybody doing a sprite of themselfs to a scale (90 pixles is like 5'6") or something... Then somebody can throw them into a game or something... Everybody does all of the art and people get to make a puzzle each or something... I dont know, sounds like a good idea...

Joseph DiPerla

I always thought that everyone should do their own game based on the ags community.

It would be sort of like RON, just in a AGS universe.

wouldn't that be slightly poitless, when instead, we could all make RON games?

Goldmund

Wouldn't it be nice if from time to time we got mad again and tried to make this UberGame? Something like seasonal rabies.

AGA

I think there was gonna be a game centred around the AGS community before... Quite a few sprites of 'famous' AGSers got made...

Download Who Killed Kenny Rogers.
http://ilb.notrix.net

It contains AGS users, it's fun, and it involves a murder.

or... A Mittens Murder Mystery - ask Grundislav for that one ;)
It involves the same, except this being teh mittens 2003, and the other is made by 2ma2!11
Veteran, writer... with loads of unreleased games. Work in progress.

I think RON was a good series, but we can also have other Series. I mean there is Star Wars novels, then there's Star Trek novels.

Whoever doesn't want to contribute, doesn't have to, and whoever does, can.

Well thats just the way I see it.

Red_Armadillo

That's a good point Joe, has anyone sofar made a Star Trek game? I know that there is at least one Star Wars game in production.

why introduce a competing seriese, when we could simply set AGS community games in the RON setting? People's attentions are already spread out over loads of competing projects (I know at one point there was a slew of MAGS alike things going on, almost all of which have dissapeared, and MAGS isn't exactly as steady as once it was) and there's no real reason why we would NEED a second game seriese. Why not AGS-community RON games? It'd at least give people more options for jokes, if Mittens was held in RON, we'd be able to have all the hilarious jokes as the expence of mittens atendees, PLUS room for jokes within the nicely established setting...

Who knows, some Mittens characters might even get picked up as regulars in the seriese...

I actually like Deltree's idea about someone doing one room and then passing the game to another one, who'd do the next room, etc.
It would be similar to "continue this sentence" game, except in a form of adventure. I think the result could be really interesting- even if the game wouldn't get finished, you'd still get a collection of puzzles (every room would be a finished puzzle on itself, but it should continue the story from previous room).
It wouldn't be that much work with only one room either (if someone wouldn't feel as making his/her interpretation of character (animation could take some time), he/she should be able to use character from some other room).

I'm sure results would be *very* interesting- especially with all those different drawing styles and storytelling ways... Not to say authors would be able to experiment and go wild.

Joseph DiPerla

Yeah that would be cool Igor.

BTW: to whoever spoke about the Star Trek game, two were released a long time ago on a very old version of AGS.  Perhaps you may have seen it. The graphics where a bit, erm... Commodore 64 style, but the game itself was good, but short.

I also remember being a lot of foul language in those games...

As far as the sequence of puzzles things goes, you could get even more depth without extra effort by inserting random clues or inventory items in your room that don't have any bearing on your particular room.  Developers further down the line could then use those items or bits of information in their puzzles, creating the effect of meticulously planned puzzles without actually having to do any meticulous planning.  Not bad, eh?  Kind of like a microcosm of the RON world, in which authors utilize material conceived by past authors in their own games.

Is there any Star Wars Adventure making right now?
Do you know their website etc?

Gilbert

Yes, at least one with AGS by DM, see the Game in Production forum for more info. (I'm too lazy to dig up the thread :p )

Cool idea Remixor! What i would like to see changed from RON-like games though, is the whole interpretation. All RON games that i was playing are following the same rules and they all look more or less the same.
If there will be continue-one-room game, i think it would be great if every room would be completely different from previous one (if first room would be cartoony, the next could be deadly serious and realistic, maybe the next could be completely B&W, DGM could make Dada-style room, etc...)- the only thing that'd tie the game together would be continuous story&interface, while authors could experiment with styles.

Similar thing was done in one of the Garfield comic books, where a few different comic authors drew their interpretations of Garfield strips. The results were fantastic :)

Alright, alright... Eggie atleast knows that I've been working on a game that we will all eventually pass around with rooms and the such.  It shouldn't be long till its out, and Egghead get the second crack at making a room for the game.  :)  When I'm closer to releasing it, I'll go ahead and make a games in production post and then there will be a listing of who gets it next.

Don't worry, its coming

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I like remixor's idea, i might consider taking part in something like that if i improved my scripting etc :)
